Hi fellow Hashers, Í've been awfully busy lately with my schoolwork but in my spare moments i managed to start the character that i was intetn on making when i bought A:M. His name is Richard Derry, he's a midle aged man who's depressed bc he has recently lost his wife. Here is the head WIP, i have yet to do the ears b finals are creeping up on me but i'll work on those as soon as summer vacation starts (june 16th). Meanwhile i would like to refine the face as much as possible before moving on. C & C are welcome. PS. i was in a rush so the shadows on the skylit render are only raytraced with one ray.

I started this thread in another forum section....but here is the clip showing whats happening..... Im not even sure if its caused by the boolean.....Ill remove it and try another render tonight..... I have a model of a castle Im working on, The walls of the castle are enclosed so a boolean cutter can cut out a doorway (i have a shape of a doorway as a named group with a bone set as a boolean cutter) it works fine at certain camera angles when rendered in the Chor. but at other camera angles the floor group (below the wall) or some of its patch areas will become transparent showing whats underneath....Ive set the floor group with decals, materials and just strai…

Saw this creature while waiting for my wife to finish shopping and thought I tried to model it. Not done needs eyes and hands/feet and tweaks but this is what I got in a little over an hour. Threw on a simbiot darktree texture to make it interesting

Hello, I decided to play with hair in preperation for a project that calls for using the hair system. I'm really liking the results I get, but I'm hitting just one snag right now. The character in the image is Dodger the Squirrel. His fur seems kind of poofy, but squirrel fur in general is mostly flat for the main body and head. I think I may have flattened the hair guides as much as they are going to go. So what else can I do to flatten the hairs more? Right now, he seems to have cute kitten fur.

Made a proxy rig... all of the bones have dynamic constraints. In the chor I constrained (orient-like limbs/torso-- and the pelvis is translate-like) the rig(main bones/limbs) of the hero character to the dynamic bones of the proxy. This is the result: DynamicHitHardLg.mov

http://www.hash.com/stills/displayimage.ph...up&cat=-1&pos=0 I was watching the DV garage tutorial on the crate, and I figured I'd try to make one. Instead of putting a logo on the first panel, I put "Caution: Carnivorous Plants" and that started the ball rolling. I made all the textures in photoshop (except for the $50, that pic came from the treasury department website), all of the wood materials came from pictures I've taken, and the grunge maps were all made from a pic of my oil tank! The concrete and bricks for the walls came off of a cd, but I had to do a lot to them to get them to look like that. Oh, and what's the best way to do some…

I'm posting my WIP for next months contest here as I think this is an exceptional one. The contest...not necessarily the model. It would be great if everyone started wips so that comments can be made to make each individual design the best it can be. So, here's mine which is based on Richards design located here: http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?act=A...=post&id=106977 Comments/improvements welcome.

Alright...I finally pretty much finished rigging and modeling the basics of my flower....look at the rig! I'm using dynamic constraints for each petal to cut down on the animation work time. Plot: basically a flower gets aggrovated because of a bee that keeps flying around it and is doing a whole bunch of annoying stuff (I get the ideas of that stuff from what I do to others )

Hi everyone, This is my first attempt at modeling anything like a face. I think I have to many splines, probably all in the wrong place. Things really got away from me when I attached the ears. Can I improve on what I have, or should I start from scratch again. I really learned alot just getting here! JP

Here's my next character(s) for the next Mini Movie I'm going to do. He will have a mouth, and I hope to do some dialog this time. (We'll see if I can grasp David's mouth rigging method!) It started as a critter I kept sketching over and over at work on my notepad. He isn't as smooth as I'd like, and I always have that problem. Anyway, I had thought of putting really short hair on him. I tried making hair but it never showed up. I love how some of Nancy's stuff has come out. If anyone knows of a good hair tut, let me know. I'm working on the logo design for one of my trademarks. Surprisingly, had more trouble with the border piece than I did assembling all the lettering! All kinds of squirrely behavior with bias. Not sure why. Anyway, here is what I have so far. It will be a lot more interesting once I add the art deco style decorative elements. Any comments or suggestions will be welcome. I'll likely have some questions to ask about why I might have had trouble with bias handles moving around unexpectedly. For now, I need to get some rest. Bill Gaylord zzzzzzzzzzz...

Trying to see what users would be interested in regards to a simple animated material tut. I put this together to get sime ideas of simple things that can be done. I used the material combiner sine in this example in fact it is the same material with slightly different settings and colors on the handle and the globe of the wand. In the wand it is doing the displacement and in the globe the twirling colors. I did use a lens flare at the end. So if this is of interest let me know here. qt 47k mattest00.mov

Here is the project file for my Shaggy and Scooby. I couldn't include the chor because of the size of the file. Shaggy is rigged, but there is a problem with the contraints on one of the right hand fingers. No smartskin. SHaggy's hair isn't finished. There's a few basic bones in Scooby for the tail and ears. If anyone uses these just let me know what you used them for and post it here so we can all see it . These models were built quickly for the contest, so they are probably no good for animation. If someone does get a decent rig and animation with these guys let us know that too. I also did a quick toon render of them in the model window. I didn't …

This is my latest WIP. Buy I'd like some suggestions. I find my work always looks too sterile. I'm not good at lighting and I'm not handy at "dirtying things up," giving them a "used" look. You fellas who are so good at photo realism would probably have a few tips. Thanks, Ed Doyle

Can anyone figure out why the gears shrink and grow when the "pelvice" bone is rotated? I can't figure it out. All I did was rotate the gears using the rotate tool. How can that tool do anything even related to changing the size of an object? (See attachment below)

Am I the only one who cant use a dope sheet? It just seems very clunky and anti-intuitive compared to keyframing the dialogue by hand... anyone think I should give learning the dope sheet another shot, or am I fine where I'm at here? dialoguetest.zip feedback muchly appriciated! (on anything but the ears.. I'm getting to that ... ) [A cookie to the first person who guesses what movie the sound clip is from!]

I found some files of martial arts wizs that display the talents of some respected stunt people in hollywood before they became so hot they don't need reels of their work anymore... I'm not sure if their is a law against rotoscoping to someones actions on video, but it's good practice for me, since I stink at animation... Maybe I should just make an online comic-book instead of trying to flesh things out in animation. By no means am I finished with it--having problems with getting the hands to stay put--FK. I'll post the reference vid in the next post Check out the result I rendered out... HSM1Lg_Prog001.mov

I've never used a cookie-cut map before. But I need to use one on a model I'm making. This model has a whole bunch of these gears on it. With the gears, the model has an insane amount of patches. (15647 to be exact ) However, if I remove the gears, it is only 5567. So you can see why I have to do something else. My computer would burst into flames trying to render it in a scene. So, is there any pointers on cookie-cuts?

You can make 2D cartoons with A:M. Have a look in the Turorials section: http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=14907 And here an example: 2dcartoon01A.mov

I'm making a sci-fi scene and have run into some problems with a crystal that I can't explain. the first thing was the fact that I applied glow to it, and it worked fine the modeling window and had no glow in the choregraphy. But now the refraction has made color from the object inside fill the entire thing up and make it look solid. I have no idea what's goning on here. Here are some picture so you can see what I'm talking about.

I always liked the cut-out style animation like used on Nickelodeon's "Blue's Clues". I really liked how it was used in "Olive the Other Reindeer" which mixed 2D and 3D. I don't really know a lot of the 2D apps and the ones I tried, I always had problems with something. So I thought I'd try it in A:M. because that's what I know. The ease of modeling, texturing, rigging, and muscle mode, all made it go so fast and easy. Here is a little test I did in just a few hours last night. (The character design is from a children's book) 7 layers (pupils, eyes, head, teeth, arms, body, leg1, leg2) - all flat objects 2Dtest.mov

Sooo... It's been a looong time since I posted a WIP here, so here goes: I've been working on theese two logos the last week. One is for a CounterStrike(a PC game) MOVIE and one is for a CounterStrike CLAN. And since I'm such a nice guy, I don't charge a buck (ok so maybe that has something to do with my current insufficiant amount of skill with A:M, but I like the "nice guy"-stuff better). Anyways, here's the Movie Logo or intro or signature or whatever: (btw, I tried to but the camera in a certain angle so that adult contenet would be as non-visible as possible. What can I say? The guy likes his ladies.) There's suppose to float an E down on the desk, bl…

The attached QT file is a really rough walk cycle and is not shown to demonstrate how not to do it, even though you could probably use it for that purpose, but to demonstrate some strangeness to do with dynamic bones and particles in A:M 11.1g. This model has small dynamic chains in the shirt tails that hang below Woot's belt and collision detection is turned on. The first two paces are rendered with particles turned OFF so no hair is generated. The next two paces are rendered with particles turned ON and look what happens to the dynamic chains.
