I finally had the guts to try to build a full figure (next up, actually connecting parts that comes next time) This is mainly for the use of anatomy study, rigging education, and animation (I just bought Jeff Lew's vid and it's on its way...I have to prepare in any way possible )

Hello all, I have worked of rigging my character for the last week, and thought I was doing well. I finished creating clinched hand movements when I moved to creating smart skin for the characters body. When I went back to test a previously hand clinch poses, I noticed the sliders didn't work. I opened an action and tried to move the fingers individually, but they seemed to be frozen -- only the roll worked. Interestingly, a previous version of the model exhibited the same problem. I can't figure out what is happening. Anyone have any ideas? AD PIV, 3.6 GZ HT using AM 2005 (Orang 11.1h) ArmWIP2.zip

I'm opening a thread for critique and ABUSE of my mini-movie entry, The Cell-Phone: http://www.hash.com/users/minimovie/cellphone.html Let's be clear here: If you can't say something nice... GOOD. Be brutal, nitpicky, even unconstructive. My only response will be "Thank you, sir, may I have another?" I want to make this thing better, and the only way to do that is to get criticism. So if something bothers you about the film, don't swallow it and worry about hurting my pride. Pretend I'm that third grade teacher you had, who told all your peers "[your name here] just wet his/her pants again, class!" And TAKE YOUR REVENGE. Sharpened blades at the re…

I don't know why, maybe it's really late, but this little bit cracks me up. This guy gets run off the road by Ravel in his ambulance and is pissed, so he goes to town honking his horn while Ravel drives off oblivious to what's happened. Something about the squeezing to honk the horn is too funny to me. I'm thinking he needs to honk it about 5 more times. The car isn't animated yet, it'll be rocking and stuff. This is a female? character Ive been working on forever. I think the modeling is finished but I'm stuck on the decaling and hair. Any suggestions appreciated. I have been using the Nagel brushes with Photoshop. I really don't have a clue about the normal, diffuse and specular maps.

I decided to enter the next mini-movie contest, with a star-wars themed film. This is a render of a "flub". That isn't the expression I put on his face, it's the one that's on his face when I open the project. (If I hit the space bar, it switches back to normal). So, I decided to get a nice shot of Lazlo (The character, not the... uh, me...) in all his geeky glory.

Hi, I'd really appreciate it if some of you could critique my Woozle piece, The Blackboard. It's the first animation of any substance that I've completed, and I'd like to take the many many lessons learned and opinions forward to the next project (as yet undecided). The current hash link is http://www.hash.com/users/minimovie/blackboard.html There is also a smaller window media player version available on my home page http://home.swiftdsl.com.au/~oztiff/ Thanks!

Hey guys, so, now onto the mouth of this character... I'm trying to see what might be a cool/easy way to handle this guys mouth. I'm thinking adding a property to change the color of the mouth from white to black when appropirate to simulate when teeth should show and not... this sample would be.... obviously with teeth:) http://www.vrcops.com/vids/SmileA.mov what do you think? I finished my GoldSmith beetle model, textured it, rigged it and put it it into a scene. And the render was so stink'n cool (Or atleast that's what I think) I put it up for you guy's to feast your eyes on. I mean if I didn't know for sure that I would break my nose and anything else possible to brake doing a back-flip, I would be doing them all around the room right now. Tell me what you think. I wnat to here your comments and crits. But know that changes won't take place, because now that I'm done with this render I'm moving on to other projects. P.S. This scene was done using one light and no radiosity. Yeah, I can't figure it out either.

I know this is not that good, animation-wise, but I'm learning a lot about A:M by working on this. I build a scene, render it, change something, render it again, add some different materials, render it again, etc... and I'm trying to learn more about about compositing and all that that entails. So it's a good exercise for me. Here's the link to the film: http://www.irish-studios.com/F4andTieFighterMovie.wmv I thought I'd post this just for the heck of it. The audio needs a lot of work, especially the dialogue as it's almost indecipherable unless you know what it says. But if you're interested, the dialogue goes: "Houston, this is Su…

I thought I might post a little water test I did. It looks very promising. I used an animated displacement and bump map (you can see the line where the bump map begins). I used the babbage patch tutes to help me out. Anyway, just thought people might be interested. Cheers Shaun water_displacement.mov

Hi all - I've been meaning to do this for a long time. One of the things that my mini movie work proved to me was/is that I need to work on lighting. I've started this thread so that I might gain as much input into the process as possible from anyone who wants to comment. This first exercise is supposed to be an outdoor setup, I'm going for afternoon sun. I understand that this isn't the most interesting from a character and modeling standpoint, but that is not my intent here. Thanks for any thoughts. Doug

WINDBLOWN: This is an old animation (to me)...done in V11.0 about 1 year ago. The vortex can be seen in her hair... I think I was going to try a more subtle effect but got sidetracked and never did it. This shows hair being affected by a fan tho--- as I said in the other Forum, use 'vortex' on the fan setting...I think I remember the others don't work...maybe by now they do... windblown2.mov

I've started to explore walk cycles, in preperation for a project I may get to work on. This was created all in one day and is six or seven actions all layered over each other. I forget where the music comes from, but that's only there temporarily for entertainment value. Thom Walk Enjoy!

Answers in Genesis (AiG), Christian apologetics and creation science organization, as well as builders of Creation Museum in greater-Cincinnati, has redesigned their extremely popular website. A key feature of the redesigned site is a new "Get Started" section that features an introduction video ("About AiG") that includes one of my 3D animations that I created for them. www.AnswersInGenesis.org is the single most-popular Christian apologetics website, receiving over 50,000 unique visitors (not hits) every day, which is about 150,000 page views. In a month, the website reaches hundreds of thousands of unique vistors (again, not hits because that would register in the…

Hey, does anyone remember my last attempt to animate a walk cycle with a cloak? No? Well, it was four months ago. Anyway, I had some concerns about the viability of the last version. Namely because it only worked when the character's arms were locked to her sides, and also because dynamics have to be recomputed every time you decide to change something. So, I went back to the drawing board. Since I wanted the cloak to swish around as the character's arms moved, I (loosely) constrained some of the bones in the cloak to the arm bones. The rest of the work involved manually animating the edges of the cloak so the hands and knees don't pass through it. The cloak as …

I started this thread in another forum section....but here is the clip showing whats happening..... Im not even sure if its caused by the boolean.....Ill remove it and try another render tonight..... I have a model of a castle Im working on, The walls of the castle are enclosed so a boolean cutter can cut out a doorway (i have a shape of a doorway as a named group with a bone set as a boolean cutter) it works fine at certain camera angles when rendered in the Chor. but at other camera angles the floor group (below the wall) or some of its patch areas will become transparent showing whats underneath....Ive set the floor group with decals, materials and just strai…

Hello, I was fascinated by a recent thread on the forums about collaboration. Animation has always been a team sport and I enjoy the challenges, camaraderie, and competition that comes with team collaboration. I know the folks at Hash are working on their "Oz" movie and I wish to take away anything or anyone from that experience. However, I feel more like creating a shorter piece. (I still need to sleep and chat with my wife once in a while.) So here's the pitch: I have an idea for a six minute (approx. time) short that is a spoof of zombie horror movies. However, instead of being zombies the "monsters" are snow men and women terrorizing a group of children…

Hello, I decided to play with hair in preperation for a project that calls for using the hair system. I'm really liking the results I get, but I'm hitting just one snag right now. The character in the image is Dodger the Squirrel. His fur seems kind of poofy, but squirrel fur in general is mostly flat for the main body and head. I think I may have flattened the hair guides as much as they are going to go. So what else can I do to flatten the hairs more? Right now, he seems to have cute kitten fur.

Hi fellow Hashers, Í've been awfully busy lately with my schoolwork but in my spare moments i managed to start the character that i was intetn on making when i bought A:M. His name is Richard Derry, he's a midle aged man who's depressed bc he has recently lost his wife. Here is the head WIP, i have yet to do the ears b finals are creeping up on me but i'll work on those as soon as summer vacation starts (june 16th). Meanwhile i would like to refine the face as much as possible before moving on. C & C are welcome. PS. i was in a rush so the shadows on the skylit render are only raytraced with one ray.

I happen to love comic strips (I'm a HUGE Peanuts fan - collect the strip collections). I even took a class on it while in school. At any rate, here's something I fooled around with like a year ago before I got AM. I'm thinking it might be good for my next mini movie instead of the little rabbit looking creature. C&C welcome. What you see is mostly all I have on him.

Made a proxy rig... all of the bones have dynamic constraints. In the chor I constrained (orient-like limbs/torso-- and the pelvis is translate-like) the rig(main bones/limbs) of the hero character to the dynamic bones of the proxy. This is the result: DynamicHitHardLg.mov

Alright...I finally pretty much finished rigging and modeling the basics of my flower....look at the rig! I'm using dynamic constraints for each petal to cut down on the animation work time. Plot: basically a flower gets aggrovated because of a bee that keeps flying around it and is doing a whole bunch of annoying stuff (I get the ideas of that stuff from what I do to others )
