I was wathcing the Quick Start CD and got to the 5 point patch demo and statred playing around with the basic geometry of the grid with a cylinder and this kind of evolved from that. Would love any comments. Still really havent learned how to texture or apply materials to models yet. Thanks, modome

Something a little different...I hope it's okay for me to show this off here. I just finished writing this program for one of my classes. All of the modeling was done in AM, exported to .3ds, and then imported into my program. I was pretty happy with the way it turned out. Pics and description are here: https://mywebspace.wisc.edu/vandeweghe/web/...case/code5.html I'm working on getting an executable uploaded so you guys can try it out (it looks lots better in motion), but I'm running into problems with Visual Studio. On a different note, did anyone ever release updated exporters to .3ds or something similar? I've done a few tests with textures, and i…

Here's a room I'm making for a game with Alpha 8 Win 2000. I'm having abit of trouble getting it to look good. The current issues are: 1 Shadows within shadows. That can't happen in reality given that there is only one light source. 2 Anomaly in wallpaper which is a decal used on all the walls. There is no spline located there 3 The outline of the table(and shelf) is taking on the colour of the wall under the decal (I have the opacity at 50% to get varying shades on each of the walls) Anyway, that's all for now. Thanks. PS After loading the project it takes an age to save the…

Here's the first result that I'm willing to share as a WIP. Eventually she'll be Saturn Girl from DC Comics Legion (of Super-Heroes). The face still needs some smoothing. The eyes are from the Animation:Master 2000 handbook by Jeff Paries. I only tweaked the Iris area by moving it inward. In some lighting situations, it'll look cool, as it'll have a hilight in the shadowed area. That's the theory, anyway. Still getting the hang of renders and lighting in A:M, being used to Carrara for lo these long months. Plan on checking out the Forest or ARM for some tutes on them. Any suggestions? I used the SAY boneHed as reference, as a number of other resources. The …

Im new to this forum and new to AM and modeling. I did the first few tutorials in the book and kinda just started doing my own thing and learning myself the program. I posted a model of an axe i did with textures from a picture of an axe basically the same one.My 1st model Now, im still working on this model im about to show and its my VERY first organic model. His name is Boon Dock Billy. Enjoy. Oh. And please comment on it tell me what i should work on because in my oppinion i dunno if he can have bones put in his face and animate them without bad clipping. Any suggestions and criticism is welcome.

Hi all, Yes, I'm still alive! I've just been working on other things, is all... Anyhoo, I finally got round to sticking the last leg on my model. The only problem is, her pelvis looks like a triangle, and the legs seem blocky... I've tried smoothing it out, but I need to step back and invite some critique, so: 3PL Far Shot 1 (gaah! help me out on her pelvis, please!!!) But it's from Nightmare before Xmas when Sally tries to poison the Doctor, I've added some subtitles which should help. All done in 10.5.

I think I'm done with my geometry... I'm putting up some screen captures for any design/ modelling criticism before I start bugging (no pun intended) everyone to help me with the texturing. Haven't had the time I've wanted on this, so I haven't made many changes since my last post. Just redid the hands, tweaked his face, put in eyes, made the inside of his mouth, which I can't even see. Anyway, any suggestions are welcome. Thanks -Andrew

I'm mostly just trying out this message board for the first time, but here's a model I started in V.8.5 but I found it too time consuming to work out all the smartskin issues(eg.- how the heck do you get the cheek to deform properly when the shoulder is "shrugged" at the same time?) Would the newest version of AM for Mac make it much easier?-but I mean in actual practice, not just in theory. Does anybody know of a good example of this sort of pudgy biped that has been animated successfully in AM? Please click here Thanks. Paul

Hey all, Remember this Guy (note thicker hands :))? Well he and his growing cast of cohorts are getting ready to become mobile soon, but they could all use a bit of dressing up. To that end the Super Secret Project Crew™ is looking to add a new member, specifically a texture artist. (not only for the characters, the sets modeling will start soon and will also need texturing.) So if you fancy yourself as such or would just like to give it a shot please email me at david@am-guide.com. As an "audition" of sorts I will send out the model file for this character to all who email me. This is a volunteer project but I am holding it up to …

Hi Folks! When I first looked at KeeKat i thought the character had oblong eyes and the pupils were constrained to the surface, upon closer inspection I see that the eyeballs are round and the pupils are constrained to a given space. I have a character that has oblong shaped eyes and i either need to constrain the pupil to the surface or create a textures of pupils that I can aim with nulls. I have included a diagram of the current problem I have with the surface constraints. Although the pupil rotates around the eyeball, the surface of the pupil (image1) never seem attached (image 2,3) my only solution was to add depth to the pupil to create a illusion of unifo…

Here's a sword I'm working on. The weird marks along the blade are actually runes, but jpeg & the low resolution sorta kill the effect. Also, the god-awful background is for testing reflectivity . Any suggestions or really harsh, scathing critiques are welcome.

I am hoping that those of you with experience can share some wisdom in the fine art of texturing a model, i can probably handle the decaling well, but the actualy process of getting a half-decent texture using photoshop eludes me. I am trying to do a reptile look, sort of monster-ish

Hi all, Inspired by Steve's excellent video tutes, and being extremely lazy myself, I am trying to produce a series of video tutes about texturing a head model. Creating an html tute was driving me nuts and was too much work. I have a first round test up on my .mac site, which I will keep there only for a short time. I'm posting this now to find out if both Mac and PC users can view the video. It is a Quicktime movie, compressed with the Apple animation codec, and the sound is compressed as an MPeg-4 sound. You will need Quicktime 6.x to view it, I believe. If a few of you (both Mac and PC folks) could download it and let me know if you can see and hear it okay, I woul…

For those of you who remember, I've been working on a personal project involving a clock - a clock which I'd ideally like to have fully animated inner workings. Following the honed wisdom of Vernon "I make paper clocks" Zehr I've bought a working cardboard kit clock and have begun constructing it with the intention of duplicating the mechanics in A:M. Now in the mean time, whilst waiting for glue to dry, I've build a very simple facade for the clock in A:M. This has also given me the opportunity to play with some of the new render features of 10.5 - namely mulitpass ray width shadows and multipass DOF. Here's a 32 pass test - There are no materials yet and just…

Hey, I rendered out this image and it is doing all kinds of weird stuff. Notice the splines over everything. As far as I know I didn't tell it to render out the splines. I just wanted a final image with no splines showing. Any idea why it is rendering this way? Also, I rendered out an earlier one with a volumetric light focused on the guys upper body and the background out of focus. It rendered everything behind the volumeric light in sharp focus and wherever the beam ended it had the correct depth of field...any ideas why? I may post an image of that if my explanation is too confusing. Any feedback/ideas would be helpful. I am working on it ri…
