GENERAL FORUM GUIDELINES
The A:M Forum is for technical support and the sharing of tips and ideas between users/prospective users of Hash software. It is moderated constantly by technical support representatives.
DO'S!

User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.

I was just showing how I can start-up 3 versions of A:M on my PC...be rendering in 2 while working in the 3rd... when the question arose 'Can you do that on a Mac'? ---We have tried it, but A:M will only start once... I know there HAS to be a workaround, right?

Hi, I'm working on rigging my first character, and I'm using the 2001 rig as a basis. However, my abstract character design requires the elbow joint to be a ball joint as opposed to one that is limited to only bend one way. Basically, I can rotate the bicep bone exactly as I want; in all directions -- but I need to be able to do the same with the forearm bone. I'm pretty sure this is a matter of changing some settings for the forearm bone in the PWS. Could someone please try to explain how I would go about making the required change? I am suspecting it might have something to do with euler limits... but please specifiy exactly where and what I need to change. Thank…

Is this a bug or something I'm not doing right? I am trying to make the distortion toolbar visible. I went to Tools-Customize and picked the Toolbars tab. I clicked the check box for "Distort." The distort toolbar appeared. I clicked "OK" and the distort toolbar vanished. I tried it several times and even re-installed the software. No joy. Why won't it stay? Running version 13.0s on an Intel Macintosh.

Hi - I need to create a golden planet w/ a glow around it - for the planet I just used a sphere, and created a material for it - but I noticed the "glow" in the property attributes doesn't have any sub setting, there is just an off and on. Is there a combo of other property attributes that I can use to get the effect I am looking for - just a glow around the planet - thanks for any suggestions.

A couple of times now, I've tried to use copy/flip/attach and it does what it implies but it does it on the y axis instead of the x axis. Is there a way of controlling which axis the CFA follows ?

Hi - I creted two facial pose sliders for a character - "New - Pose - Percentage". The pose sliders are listed under "Properties', but not Pose Sliders. And when I slide it from "0" to "100" is doesn't do anything unless I right click on it and click "edit relationship" and then slide it. Please let me know what I did wrong. Thanks, Eric

I am exporting a character with Animation to Quest with the Osidian-Export. Now I got the problem, that the character is always coming in mirrored (that means what was on the right will be one the left. To solve this, I would go the easy road and do all the animations visversa. But now I made a mistake and animated not mirrored. So is there a plugin or a function which can bring all the animation in the action from one side to the other and visversa? *Fuchur*

Hi - I am working on a character for a client and she want the char's cheeks to turn pink at a certain point in the animation. Is this possible to do w/ a decal in an action over let's say one second - having the decal transparent at 0 - then non-transparent at one second? Or even set as a pose slider? Hi - I am having a rendering issue, at the point that the Sprite System "smoke" and "fire" kick in it does something to the background, when the sprite system is changed back to 0% is goes back - can anyone tell me if this is avoidable? ok what im looking for is a thruster graphic , if you seen any psi phy and such you will know what im taking about , you have a port on some jetspack / fighter and with a epic push of a buttion the hero jets away with the girl with flaming jets following them , its the jets im looking for , and any suggestions would be nice

Hi - I am working on a project for a client and they need it in a high resolution and a little worried about rendering time to meet the deadline - and they have access to be able to log-in I guess to another computer for rendering. Have never heard of it, but they need to know if AM supports "grid/parallel computing" - has anyone ever heard of this or know. Thanks for the help on my other 4 posts today - you guys are great. Hello - I have never played around w/ putting a character on a path - so I thought I would try it out. I have the character placed in a chor and created a circle path to have the character walk around in a circle. I constrained the character to the path and it all works fine. I also had created a walk cycle for the character as an action from 00:00:00 - 00:01:05 that I dropped on him in the chor. When I play it, it takes a long time to go around the circle - my question is how do you adjust the 'speed' of the walk on the path? Thanks - Eric

Hi - I set up several poses for a character to practice pose sliders. I have a bend left, right, forward and back- which I all have set to "0" on the pose sliders. I started a new action and it puts the character in the screen, but has him bent forward, which is one of the pose sliders, but is shouldn't be doing that. Anyone know what I did wrong? Thanks - Eric

Ok after a while i managed to convice a friend to use AM ( ya ) however this friend is more of the elf and fairy kind of designer rather than my self who is robotic and as such i have no models of bipeds that arnt robots of some type. i was wondering if any one had a easyaly changable model of a guy and a anaitomicaly correct girl ( ie has a full body not just holes where the cloths go ) that my fried can use , and ironicaly i dont have a cd any more ( cause we both used 15.0) and i cant seam to find anything in that data base thats for older versions

Hi guys I'm sure this is a really easy fix, but I'm not sure what's going on. I've rendered a simple line that glows and then fades out. (I've rendered it with an alpha channel) The glow shows up in the .mov file and everything is fine, however when I put it into after effects to be composited, it loses the outside glow completely. I've attached a picture of it with the glow, and then how it looks in after effects when it's supposed to be glowing- but of course nothing is really happening. The glow doesn't show up in other editing programs either. I can always add my own glow in after effects, but I wanted to know if anybody can tell me if I'm doing something wrong. Is it…

Hi - I recently bought a new computer and had to re-install AM v13 on it, along w/ everything else. I needed to model and add something to a character, which I did. I went into bone mode to associate the new item w/ a bone and all the bones do show, but when I click on any of the bones, all the CPs that normally light up that color associated with that bone remain black. Is there an icon or something that I am not clicking on? There is an image below showing when I clicked on the middle back bone, and the CPs don't light up. Thank you for any help - Eric

Hey all, I'm having a bit of trouble with Bones. When I select CPs to attach to a Bone, is there anyway I can DEselect CPs if I make a mistake? I tried every possible key+mouseclick combo I could think of... And is there any way to attach a group from the model hierarchy to a Bone? I'm running A:M 12.0n I understand there is a later version for the YETI CD, but the FTP site is a mess. Multiple version scattered around and I haven't got a clue which one to download. Thanks for your help.

Hello all, I am following along with the online tutorial for FW-190 fighter. I can not seem to get the measurements to match up to what is shown in the start of the tutorial. I do not know how important this but I press on making sure the scale matches in the different views when I put a new rotoscope. My second issue that makes me wonder if the part I am stuck on has something to do with it is after I create the six point spline for the first wing I group select it, go to top view using the number pad on the keyboard, move the selected spline and click the extrude button. Hi - I'm working on a gorilla model and posted in the work in progress forum and David Simmons mentions a few things including the hair- "I'm not sure about the hair or the chest scars in these renders. In these renders, it looks like the hair could be thickened at its' base and the scar could use a bump or displacement map" How do you thicken the hair at the base? I am looking in the Technical Reference - and it mentions "the thickness can vary along it's length" - I am in AM in the "properties" of the hair system - and it just has a "Thickness" with a percentage, but nothing about the thickness over the length (thicker at the base) Any help to clear this…

ok im trying to do a wepon system with a laser blast but for some reasion when ever i place the shot at the time its ment for it gets placed at the very begining in some weird place. all i want to know is how should i put a lasser shot in with out it being placed at the very start of the movie , or does every model you are going to use have to be in at the start?

Hi - I created a character and created all the 9 mouth alphabet positions for the character as pose sliders and named them appropriately. I created a new action and dropped in "secret" audio clip from KeeKat Tutorial. I made a new dope sheet for it and it automatically filled in everything. The problem is his mouth isn't moving, but everything is set up and working fine - when I scroll over the audio all the pose sliders are moving back and forth as they should - just no mouth movement. I tested it w/ KeeKat and it worked fine, so the issue is something I did with this model. Any ideas what I might be doing wrong? Thanks - Eric

I completed the CanCan exercise and in the render to file option I changed the range to be 3 seconds (300). After the CanCan was rendered they danced only for 2 seconds with the last second they just stood -- it didn't animate the last second. Am I doing something wrong? BTW I'm using version 9.5b. Could use your help!!!

Hello, my name is Sergio, I would like to thank Jason for helping me to install the Animation Master on my computer, since I was having problems installling it. Thank you for the support. And I also want to introduse myself as newbie since I am new at this. I've been reading on this web page and and I think I found the right product to learn to animate 3D Characters. I have a path and a character that walks on the path and blended a pose at the end. So far all is good. I have a camera that isn't tied to the path and I manually moved the camera to follow the character. When the character reaches the end of the path, if I move the camera after that point in time the character will slide on the end of the path and not stay where he was. Is there a way of keeping the camera move independent from from the character on the path?

This is odd, and it happened once before, but it was awhile back and I forgot the fix. I am rendering a 5 second animation and have it set at 320x240, but it rendering the animation at around 150x120 with a black background filling up the additional space. Was this something to do w/ a camera setting, that I have set wrong?

I'm working through the TAOA:M, and I just rendered the first animation. Following is what I got... It lacks the detail shown in the manual - i.e. the pleating of the curtains and the texture of the stage. As far as I can tell, I followed the steps correctly. I chose final render quality, etc. Anyone have any idea where I went wrong? -Steve

Alright - I am simply trying to create a walk cycle and having problems.... when you move one of the foot targets forward to step forward, you obviously have to move the hips bone to line up above it - that moves the whole character forward. Throughout the whole walk cycle do you move the "root" bone to keep it centered the whole time? Also, when you "copy keyframe" and "paste mirrored" it doesn't seem to paste the root bone? Can someone fill me in on what I am missing. Thanks - Eric

So I wanted to use a bone connected to a simple model to cut a hole through the side of a vehicle that has a Darksim Material on it. 1. I went to the "Boolean" bone's properties and turned "Boolean Cutter" to "ON." 2. I did both final renders and progressive renders and the boolean doesn't seem to work. Did I forget a necessary step......or might some misfortune have happened to A:M's boolean function?? Detbear

Help! I was approved for the 14 day free trial. I had to go out of town the next day so I waited til I got back 6 days later to download the 64 bit version (Windows 10). I clicked on the temp license file and… nothing. I searched my entire hard drive, and cannot find it anywhere under any of the possible names Hash suggests in the approval letter. I clicked on the file link again but it tells me I’ve already downloaded it or are not approved. I tried opening the shortcut on the desktop on the off-chance that the file is somewhere within the program and hidden, and it says I’m missing a “mfc140.dll” file. Ack!!! I’ve emailed Hash, but no response. I plan to buy the…
