GENERAL FORUM GUIDELINES
The A:M Forum is for technical support and the sharing of tips and ideas between users/prospective users of Hash software. It is moderated constantly by technical support representatives.
DO'S!
-Ask questions about the software.
-Assist other users... everyone was new at this once.
-Inform people of your version/platform when asking for help.
-Share resources; tutorials, models, textures, tips and techniques (link to useful websites).
-Post links to your work, or where your art is being used online (on websites, in games, toons', etc.)
-Search the A:M Forum and FAQ. The question you are about to ask may have already been answered.
-Organize and inform others about user groups, IRC chats, image and animation contests, job opportunities, etc.
-Discuss what you are working on and let everyone know about magazine reviews and articles that relate to your projects.

-No very general questions like: "how do I make a good 3D model" make your questions as complete and concise as possible.

User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.

OK I was foolish and somehow I lost my models toolbar. All the other toolbars show up as they should. Checking or unchecking the model toolbar box in the toolbar portion of the view menu has no effect. Do I have to reinstall? I'm running v14 on an win XP setup. I suppose this could be the program's way of making me remember all the keyboard shortcuts. Thanks, Alan

all right my first real movie has hit a bit of a problem , i have one part where for lack of a better word a motor cycle jumps off a hill and lands in some sand causing a track and a bit of a indent , only problem is the sand itself is a pretty basic flat plane with the texture on it , is there a way that an object in the way of the indent i would want could push the surface into the shape i want with out remodeling the ground ?

Does anyone have any resource on how to import the file, this pluggin produces into the target program.... The plugin info does a great job explaining how to use it to create the file.....But I can't see any info as to how to import the exported data into PI... Anyone have any guidance in the right direction?? William

I've created an action from a BVH motion capture file and tailored it to work well with the Gala female model from the A:M library. The animation looks fine in the action window and also looks right if I apply it to the Gala model in the Choreography on frame 0. If however I move the action to start on frame 100 in the choreography it no longer works correctly. The model slides all over the place and all of the translations and rotations seem wrong. The further the action is away from frame 0 in the choreography the worse the effect is. I want to be able to apply more than 1 Mocap derived action to the model within the choreograpy, the 1st action will work fine on fr…

OK...i've finally moved to California, so now I have time to concentrate on this program. I want to upload my first animations "Knight Pitch" file. But this forum says i'm not allowed to upload "this type of file". It's an "AVI". What do I have to do to upload this? ok in the sharp lines on the face i made post there was belive it or not a movie to show me how to redirect splines (THANKS) and somethin gthat was shown was the ability to move a cp along a spline with out actauly moving the spline , i coundent quite make out the buttion that was said. any one know?

Hi - I created a small round hair ball creature with eyes for a scene that I brushed and lengthened some of the hairs, and when rendered from the model view it is fine, but when I drop the character in the chor - all the hairs are not brushed or modified - what did I do wrong? Thank you.

Hello - I am taking a stab at photorealistic modeling of a person. My question is when it comes to the skin of the face and body what is the best thing to do? Let's say you don't have an actual pic good enough to use the actual photo as a decal. Would us use a material combining 2 "skin" colors - and then use seperate decals possibly for eyebrows? Any help, suggestion or techniques that anyone uses would be much appreciated. Thanks - Eric

Hi - I set up several poses for a character to practice pose sliders. I have a bend left, right, forward and back- which I all have set to "0" on the pose sliders. I started a new action and it puts the character in the screen, but has him bent forward, which is one of the pose sliders, but is shouldn't be doing that. Anyone know what I did wrong? Thanks - Eric

how do u use multiple actions in same coreography? i was playing with the walking tutorial thingy, when i tried to get the person to make a pose at the end of there walk but the pose action and the walking action started overriding each other. i could have swarn i saw a decent tutorial on how to accomidate for this any help would be ... helpful thanx - eptigo

I been two years now that i had this program and figured out that.....I have no modeling skills what-so-ever ( I should have known sooner when I couldn't model the basic flour sack ) So i decided to work with what skills (I thats what you would call them ) in animating. The project I Am working on is going steady right now but I am having some trouble. Itrying to have one character walk to a certain point at a certain time but can't seem to get it right. Hi everyone, I've already bought an Intel based iMac and I've noticed that only selected versions of some programs work with this new Macs. I own a 2006 CD and I'd like to know wich exact version is the one I should install in my computer or, at least, the best version that suits in. Hi! I have a question and dont know if it is possible to do that. I animated something. Now I realized, that I should use several Chereographie-Actions for my Character which will hold several different bones in them to easily blend between reuseable actions etc. So I want to transfer one "bone" (for example the Animation-Channels of the Model Bone) to another Chereo. How can I do that? I tried to drag and drop the bone to the next chereo, but that doesnt work. I would prefer not to copy pase every keyframe to the new action, so is there a different way? Is this a bug or something I'm not doing right? I am trying to make the distortion toolbar visible. I went to Tools-Customize and picked the Toolbars tab. I clicked the check box for "Distort." The distort toolbar appeared. I clicked "OK" and the distort toolbar vanished. I tried it several times and even re-installed the software. No joy. Why won't it stay? Running version 13.0s on an Intel Macintosh.

Hello - it's been a few weeks, been working on another tooth animation - hope everyone is doing good. Have a small issue I have a model in a chor and had to make some changes to it, but wasn't sure if the changes were going to work - so I renamed it so I wouldn't effect the original if it didn't come out right. The original is in the chor as "impression2" - the one I want to use is called "impressionFinal". Is it possible to point it to that, so I don't have to go in and redue that portion of the chor? Hey all, I'm having a bit of trouble with Bones. When I select CPs to attach to a Bone, is there anyway I can DEselect CPs if I make a mistake? I tried every possible key+mouseclick combo I could think of... And is there any way to attach a group from the model hierarchy to a Bone? I'm running A:M 12.0n I understand there is a later version for the YETI CD, but the FTP site is a mess. Multiple version scattered around and I haven't got a clue which one to download. Thanks for your help.

My model is leaning forward when I turn "ON" the Ik Leg setup and bring her into an action - I'm pretty sure I did something wrong when rigging it. Here is pic. ok, what happened was that there were constraints for the feet to make feet targets and i removed them (because i wanted to use the simpler IK system instead), now, i followed the steps for a basic IK system for them, but the problem is, i try to move the feet in a choreography and it wont let me, any ideas?

I'm creating a "dance" animation. My action is the character "hopping" forward (puts his hands in front, pulls them back at the same time he jumps forward.) I created this action. When I'm in my choreography, I drop the action into the character, then create a path for him to follow. What I want is for him to continually perform that action while moving on this path. Do I have to do multiple paths, or somehow "cycle" that action? He performs the action once, then stops. thanks. Ok. Nevermind. It's working now. I now have to "extend" the action so it looks like he is stopping after one "thrust" forward with is arms before the next action.

I have 10 chapters i am planning to upload (look at This Thread for more info) in the future one at a time and will be each chapter will be posted ASAP after it's completion. I was wondering whats the filesize and usual limit is allowed to upload the chapters on hash.com? I'm planning 10 minute chapters or so. Two part chapters only stress confustion and mess.

Hi - I recently bought a new computer and had to re-install AM v13 on it, along w/ everything else. I needed to model and add something to a character, which I did. I went into bone mode to associate the new item w/ a bone and all the bones do show, but when I click on any of the bones, all the CPs that normally light up that color associated with that bone remain black. Is there an icon or something that I am not clicking on? There is an image below showing when I clicked on the middle back bone, and the CPs don't light up. Thank you for any help - Eric

I have a path and a character that walks on the path and blended a pose at the end. So far all is good. I have a camera that isn't tied to the path and I manually moved the camera to follow the character. When the character reaches the end of the path, if I move the camera after that point in time the character will slide on the end of the path and not stay where he was. Is there a way of keeping the camera move independent from from the character on the path?
