-Organize and inform others about user groups, IRC chats, image and animation contests, job opportunities, etc.
-Discuss what you are working on and let everyone know about magazine reviews and articles that relate to your projects.
DON'TS!
-Do Not be rude or disrespectful or mean to other forum members in any way. Personal attacks will be removed.
-Do Not post bug/crash reports to the list (send bug/crash reports to http://www.hash.com/reports.
-Do Not complain about forum content. Complaints or suggestions can be sent directly to hash@hash.com
-Do Not reprimand other forum members for violating forum rules, that's the moderators job, which (unless you are a moderator) you are not.
-No complaining or whining on the forum or distribution of misinformation.
-No flames of any kind.
-No Off Topic posts. (Posts in the Off Topics section should be related to A:M in some form or fashion or benefit the A:M community as a whole).
-No soliciting of any kind without prior approval.

-No "me too!" posts
-No discussion of Hash Internal Affairs (finances, advertising, PR.)
-No posting of private email to the forum unless permission of the author is granted. (Private correspondence should remain private)
-No very general questions like: "how do I make a good 3D model" make your questions as complete and concise as possible.
If you have questions as to whether it's appropriate, send it to: support@hash.com, We'll be happy to let you know whether it is, or is not appropriate.
User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.
Thanks for making the A:M Forum a great community.

I was working on excersize 6 and I want to make shaggy appear mad, unfortunately when I click the mad eyes slider it automatically takes his eyes to around 50% mad and the slider changes from making his eyes normal at 0% and full mad at 100% to being 50% at 0 and a slight change to full mad at 100%. I closed the Choreography window and restarted, reset the computer, and tried deleting/importing new Shaggy's ( because I thought about someone saying that windows caches things) and nothing seems to fix the eye bug. I tried Keekat and Rabbit and didn't seem to happen. Also tried 14, same issue. Should I just use a different model? or am I missing something?

Hello! Hoping someone can help point me in the right direction here... I'm making a simple wall clock and would like to animate it so that it does one of those "time passes quickly" gags. I've set it up with a bone for the minute hand and a bone for the hour hand. They are independent of each other and when you rotate them (from the front view), you can change the time on the clock, so it basically works, but I would like to make it more automatic. I need to constrain them, so that the hands only rotate around the center pin on one plane and I would like to make it so that moving the minute hand would work like a real clock: making it so t…

Hi there, I'm curious as to whether A:M allows for external assets for workflows. I may be going around it the long way but it is a newbie question. For example:- If I'm making a scene and it was my job to animate it and someone elses job to model the character. Would the character model update automatically the next time I loaded my project? How does that work? You can point me to a chapter in the book if you wish, I have a copy of it. So in theory, I could animate several characters that look the same as a base model and then change them later to be individual people? Cheers Clinton

In a multi-camera setup, how does one make them so when you want to switch from viewing through one camera trained on one object to later going to another camera that is trained on another object? I have messed with the timeline but I'm unsure how to do this. Some assistance would be greatly welcomed. Kind of like having two people talking in a movie and the camera view switches from one face to another as they speak. Thank you ahead of time! Noganite

When animating an object, how do you keep it completely still in one segment between keyframes and then move it again? An example is a character that stops everything it's doing briefly, frozen in time, then looks around. It seems like any animation program won't let you do that because it only allows constant movement while you're animating. Can anyone help?

I am looking to purchase a 3D animation program and will need to use it for text animation as well as modeling. I do not see much about text animation on the hash website and I can't seem to find a demo verison to test it out. Is AM limited as far as text is concerned?

Dear Animation Masters, When outputting .mov file with sound, I am unable to hear the sound playback on hard drives or as streaming video off the web. However, if I output a .wmv there is no problem hearing the sound. In addition, many websites open with a big block with a q with a question mark in it. I have removed flash from the list in QT pro, so I thought that would solve the problem. Any tips? Thanks, Michael Angelo http://www.michaelangeloart.com

I'm working on this very abstracted female model. I'm beveling all the edges. The problem I'm having is that, due to the beveling, I've got some spline "rings" that are very close to each other, and they're creating subtle bands in the surface of the model. In the attached image, you see an example right where the left leg joins the torso. Is there anything I can do to avoid this? I am aiming to animate with this character. I guess I could get rid of it if I peaked everything, but then I don't think I'd be able to smoothly curve things when animating (right?).

Hi everyone, I'm just starting to do my own modeling in A:M, and I'm trying to close up the "hole" in this shape. How should I go about doing it? I was wondering if I could just extent the splines from the bottom up to the horizontal spline at the top of the hole and attach them as hooks, but it doesn't seem to work. On the other hand, I'm not sure if I'm successfully creating hooks. When I see pics of people's hooks, it's just a spline leading into another at a 90 degree angle, but with no control point joining the two. When I do it, I get a control point... what am I doing wrong? Or if hooks is not a good solution here, what would you suggest? Thanks for any…

Hi All - I'm hoping someone can help me with a problem. In my camera properties, I set the background color (in this case to white). When I click the onscreen render button, the background is white. When I render my final animation, the background is black. I tried changing the bg color to all kinds of crazy colors. Same exact results. I'm sure I'm just missing a setting somewhere. What setting am I missing? Thanks. - Michael

I originally purchased A:M 2000 several years ago and it came with a thick technical reference manual. I understand that a year or two after that TAoA:M became the standard pack-in manual with A:M. This is the first year I've ordered the upgrade and am looking forward to the Tech Reference Manual, but would like the get a printed TAoA:M manual as well. Is that possible? Thanks, James

First- I can't find anything for font in plug-ins. Can anyone help me with putting together a sporting event tunnel. The type that football players walk onto the field through except this is going to be for boxing. I would like about 2 or 3 turns in it and be able to show clips at different spots on the walls. I'm hoping to find someone to help me with it. I'm just getting into Hash so it's tough for me but I'm sure it'll be easy for someone who knows what they're doing. Thanks, Ron

I've followed the tutorial online for adding the skeleton to boneless thom. All control points assigned, but I've got two issues. 1. Using the IK Arm Setup to ON to set the hand targets, I get the right arm in the bent position 2. When using the resolute walk action, the legs are turned inside out. Any help appreciated.

Hi, I'm currently messing around with Realm Crafter a MMORPG design tool. I can import models and animations of models if they're in .b3d file format (Blitz 3D) and soon RC2 will support .x file format. Is A:M capable of exporting models and animations in these formats. If so, you've sold an upgrade! Thanks for any help! Sritsod

I have A:M 2006 and have been updating with all the patches. My question, is A:M 2007 UPGRADE needed or are the patches being put out going to basically make it (the A:M 2006 version) into the 2007? Or do I need to buy the upgrade? Thanks. Steven

The advertisement for A:M 2007 said it has dual-core support, can someone tell me how to enable it? See: http://robwilkens.com/tao/notdual.jpg On the left-hand of the attached image, you'll see exercise 2 rendering, on the right side of the screen, you see "Core 1: " and "Core 2: " usage. Core 2 is clearly doing the bulk of the rendering, as it's near 100% usage.. Core 1 is almost sitting idle, so clearly it doesn't appear to be being used. There's got to be some magic trick to enable dual-core support. Do I need to switch to a beta version to get this? -Rob

I saw that this has been addressed a few times in forums, but I never found an actual answer! I have finished the modeling part (not texturing/surfacing, and there is no decaling) of a computer. At some point during me setting up my test renders, the splines started showing on the surface at all times, even in the final renders. "Render as lines" is set to off, I'm using final-quality render settings (no shaded/wireframe), and all the obvious stuff I can think of checks out. I just pushed the wrong button somewhere. How do I make this stop?!? Here is the pic, and in case it'll help, I'm also attaching the project file. Thanks! commodore.prj.zip

Hello! I'd like some advice on how to achieve these two lighting effects: 1) I'd like to create an effect that projects light as if it's being passed through a "bar" filter (or like the bars of a window). Example below, with the "light bars" across the subjects' eyes. PLEASE CLICK ON THE LINKS TO SEE THE IMAGES: 2) I'd like an effect of light showing though clouds or fog, so that you can see the rays. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks! T

In any endeavor we seek feedback. We look at things from a variety of angles. We poke and prod at ideas. We test new theories. We plan for success. We hope for feedback. And when we get no feedback... that's feedback! Discovery is at the heart of the learning process. Feedback helps us discover what works. As an artist, animator or storyteller recognize how feedback is essential to success. Look for opportities to provide feedback and encourage others in their endeavors. You'll be glad you did. Hash Inc is currently distributing the Extra DVD with 2007 upgrades. With over 3.5 Gigabytes of A:M resources there is a whole lot to see. I finally started looking through the content and was surprised to see my robot sentry! (eeek!) The sentry has the distinction of being one of the first models I created in A:M and as such is sure not much to look at. He's an almost entirely lathed character that harkens back to the time before I felt comfortable with extrusion. Now lathing... that I thought I understood. Still, I must admit it gave me a thrill to see that old model there on the Extra DVD. He's a bit embarrasing to look at but I'm proud of him. W…

Wanted to say hi. So um... Hi. Also, I was thinking of picking up AM. It really is very impressive. I had just a question. I'm running a 1.6g antholon with 1g ram, with a geforce fx 5200. does that stack up as a decent machine to run AM, or should I look to upgrade? I understand the Minimum requirments for the system that are listed in the program info, but I was just curious what those of you who use it regularly would suggest is an ideal pc config.

I've been working on a movie and decided it was time to animate the scenes. Unfortunately, I can't continue unless I know some kind of software that gives me high-quality scene combiners. Whenever I use Windows Movie Maker for combining scenes, the quality is really bad and I don't want it that way. I was hoping for a software that could allow me to finalize my movies in quicktime. I have one scene from the movie that I'm currently working on. untitleddo.mov Do you know any software that can produce the same quality and be in quicktime?

I need to transfer a project from my desktop to my laptop and visa versa and I am having no success. I am running v 12 on both. I transfer the A:M CD between systems. I have tried doing a search and get a zillion possibilities, and don't have time to search all of them and I am sure this is being done all the time. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Hi, I'm having a little trouble with my model. I have 2 copies of A:M, snce I upgraded once. So I keep the new one(2006) in my desktop, and the old one(2004 CD with update for 2005) in my laptop. But now I have the problem because I need to work on my model on my laptop, but it won't work with older versions of the program. Does anyone know how I can transfer it, I tried exporting it to another format but it messed up the bone structure and I lost my pose sliders. If not, does anyone know how I can use version 13 on both computers without moving the CD back and forth?

Just finished my second session with AM and initial impression is it's gonna work, but there will be issues. Seems like I'm doing too much tech and not enough art. Things like moving the data library from the CD to the hard drive, as there were no models in the Models tab, and when I attempted to save I get this goofy message all about embedding and something about the project tree which I think I found but it had about a thousand items in it about which I hadn't a clue. I spent a few hours doing strange and wonderful things to the rabbit, and managed to save the project, but on reopening the program it flashed me a message about saving changes to the rabbit, I clicked y…

Hello All, I am sorry is this was covered in another post, I just couldn't find it if there is one. I am going through David Rogers book A:M a Complete Guide. So far it's going well but I run into an issue and can't quite figure it out. I have attached a capture of the model that I am working on. This is a tutorial from the book. basicailly it's two cylinders one was lathed around the Y axes. The other needs to be lathed around the x axes. It's an exercise on changing the pivot point. I an unable to get it to pivot around the x axes. I have toyed with the properties in rotate mode but not sure which things to change. I'm sure it's something quite easy…
