-Discuss what you are working on and let everyone know about magazine reviews and articles that relate to your projects.
DON'TS!
-Do Not be rude or disrespectful or mean to other forum members in any way. Personal attacks will be removed.
-Do Not post bug/crash reports to the list (send bug/crash reports to http://www.hash.com/reports.
-Do Not complain about forum content. Complaints or suggestions can be sent directly to hash@hash.com
-Do Not reprimand other forum members for violating forum rules, that's the moderators job, which (unless you are a moderator) you are not.
-No complaining or whining on the forum or distribution of misinformation.
-No flames of any kind.
-No Off Topic posts. (Posts in the Off Topics section should be related to A:M in some form or fashion or benefit the A:M community as a whole).

-No posting of private email to the forum unless permission of the author is granted. (Private correspondence should remain private)
-No very general questions like: "how do I make a good 3D model" make your questions as complete and concise as possible.
If you have questions as to whether it's appropriate, send it to: support@hash.com, We'll be happy to let you know whether it is, or is not appropriate.
User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.
Thanks for making the A:M Forum a great community.

i'm still working on that same head from another topic, but i've deleted most of so i could start over. I added two rings around the eyes and one around the mouth ( i was told to do that in another forum). but know i'm not sure how to go about connecting the eyes nose and mouth. i managed to connect them earlier but the face wasn't smooth and the lips didn't come out quite right. First- how do i connect the parts? Second- how do i make the lips protrude naturally? thanks if you can help ~Hisako

no point in starting a WIP just yet, i'll just keep spamming the newbieland; i've just played with the toggling of perspective/non-perspective views (using the keys involved) and seem to have blown thom's hip null out of view. first i didn't even notice it, then it was easy to ignore and now it's all i think about. everything is fully functional, the n and r tools appear with normal sized visual tools, but the null star is like four times the height of thom (but centered where it should). it's possible this could have happened while testing the mouse earlier; shift-dragging w middle button down. i might accidentally have nudged a wrong button and given a shortk…

Hello all, I have just got up and running (unlike my animations) with AM 13, which is my first outing of any sort with 3D software. Im a Graphic Designer by trade and have always drawn things in my spare time, and im hoping start to bring a few things to life. Just thought Id mention to anyone about to buy or upgrade to V13 that on a Mac you will require an OS of 10.4.6 not 10.3.9 as stated on web and packaging, this caught me out on arrival of software. No probs though all up and working. Ive got to now concentrate and focus on getting the tutorials done before I can really start to play. I have a copy of the complete guide coming next week so I should h…

Ok let s talk about something not so simple(at least with lightwave) I know the way A:M works and that it can offer some crazy tools for every kind of situations but what about this one ? i want to make a race track and i want every curve to bank on the Z axis (which is a bank). Is this possible ? In blender you can have a "hand" on the bank rotation axis before you extrude an object. Ideas around ?

simplest basics trouble; trying to make thom's hand stay in one place when doing a walk cycle (but i'm in chor). tried some constraints and a null but it seems i'm not understanding something basic, since nothing achieved anything. could someone give me the name of the null i need and say if i need to brush up on my so-called understanding of hierarchies? edit, the hand should stay in one place in space regardless of the motion of the rest of the body

I've been practicing the walk cycle, and then I decided to try making a hop cycle for rabbit, but can anybody give me a idea of how I would set up the stride length for a hop, or how I would gauge it correctly? I've been experimenting, and I've gotten the animation action to look good, but the stride length is somewhat hard to gauge what I need to base it on. I keep seeming to end up with rabbit either hopping way too fast across the screen when I set up the choreography of it, or if I slow it down, every time he lands he slides forward a bit.

I know the pink lines are standard "safe area" lines but I've discovered that once I import my AVI renders into Adobe Premier that I'm getting thin black lines on either side of the screen. It's too late to resolve at this point and this project is just a silly fan thing anyway so it isn't important at the moment. That said, I do want to resolve the issue before I start filming my more important project. Additionally, it occurred to me that, when it came to making images (JPEGS) for my comic once I'm done modeling things, I would want to be able to control the exact size of the JPEG produced. Is there such a way to adjust what is rendered as far as size goes? …

From a rendering perspective, is it better to use many instances of the same model or is it better to individually model each instance with it's own name and file? For example, in my current project I have lots of buildings. Buildings have lots of windows. Would I be better off modeling the buildings with the windows built into the building as part of the model. Or would I be better off making several types of windows and then importing the building and window models into my choreography and then inserting the windows into the buildings by creating many instances of the same windows until the buildings are complete? I ask because this is occurring a lot on my se…

Hi! I am trying to export Eddie with the *.x-export by Obsidian Games to Quest3d. So far so good... everything seems to work very well. So I tried to add a simple eye-lid (just half of a sphere which is bigger than the eye itself. I gave it a bone at the center of the eye and attached it to the head-bone (children of the headbone). Now I made an animation (action). It is looking good in Animation:Master. Then I exported it. That works well too, but somehow the animation on the eye-lid isnt in the right place. The eye isnt covered by the eyelid. It seems like the eye-lid is rotating around some mystic center I didnt specify... it is not the position of t…

Is it possible to have an object that is behind a transparent object not be affected by the color of the transparent object? I have a head and a space helmet: [attachmentid=16725] The green helmet is 50% transparent. The helmet and the face are simply flat grids. What I want to do is place the face behind the helmet so it looks like it's inside of it but I don't want the helmet's color to affect the color of the face. I want the original skin color to remain. As it is it looks like this: [attachmentid=16726] Does anyone know how to prevent a transparency's color from affecting a model that's behind it? There must be a simple way to do that. (I k…

Quick question regarding something I am not understanding. If I have a Choreography with two actors in it, and then create two paths. Say I constrain Actor 1 to path A with a Chor range of 4 seconds, and then I contrain Actor 2 to Path B with a Chor range 15 seconds, somehow Actor 1's contraint to Path A will automatically change the Chor range to 15 seconds as well. My question is how do I keep actor 1 going long Path A for just 4 seconds?? Is there a way to edit the keyframes or something else I am missing?? ANy help would be greatly appriciated... EDIT: or I could just go watch the video tutorial on this. Sorry, I didnt see it earlier.

The A:M Community always stands ready to help each other out and this is indeed one of the reasons why I devote time to the community. I've been on the recieving end of the community's generosity more times than I can count. Having said that... a word of caution to new users might be in order. The knowledgeable among us (old and new) can certainly help us through the trouble spots but carelessly abusing the graces of others is guaranteed to put a stop to such excellent assistance rather than see it prosper and get us to the goal (whatever that may be in each case). Of course, A:M Community members can defend themselves so I'm not attempting to speak for th…

Hi all, So, as my subject says, I'm a returning member here to the world of Animation Master. My last trek with it was around 2007 or so I guess. The last version update of the software I own is 2006, the Sasquatch CD. I also have the 2004 disc with the Gorilla. I took time away from pursuing A:M as I was really devoted to working on my own upstart game projects, and life very rudely interrupted me a few times in the interim (lots of moving around). I am still interested in getting into game design, however, not with something of my own. I have the goal of being hired at a major game studio as a level/environment designer. I veered away from "doing my own …

Okay... I downloaded V 12.0 T of A:M and the Help installer for same. I have attempted several times to use the help installer.... and it connects to the Hash site, I think, and begins to DL the files... A couple of times it "failed to connect to server" or some similar error msg. So, I downloaded the Zip of the Help file HTML. I unzipped this to the help folder in the Hash directory (that was probably the wrong thing to do). Then later, I tried again to use the help installer... It seemed as though it was working... said it had about 174 minutes left.... (and I'm on DSL, shouldn't that be faster?). Then all of a sudden (about 3 minutes later)…

Not really sure how this happen since i cant recreate it. I was modeling and decided i needed to zoom in on a part and then move it a bit to center it in the screen. Then i looked down at the picture for just a moment an all of a sudden i had another window open in A;M. It was like those T.V with the picture in picture. An all it had was the area i had scrolled in on. I am not to sure if i can do anything within that window because when i clicked outside it on my main model it vanished. At the time i wasn't using my keyboard or any on screen functions. I was just using the mouse wheel. So is there a function like this in A;M i didn't know about ? IF so how do i re…

I shot a mail message to support but I thought I'd cover this base as well. I got a Mac mini from work so that I could work from home. Since my home PC is way old, I wanted to install A:M on the mini. The install of A:M 11 goes OK, but after entering in my info & serial the program just shuts down. System stats are as follows: 1.83 gig core duo 2 gig Ram Mac OSX I checked the FAQ but didn't find anything similar to my situation. Sorry if this isn't the place for this question. Also, I know a mini is hardly the workhorse that should be running A:M but it it's all I got. Any help is greatly appreciated. C.

Hi, I got A:M 2002 back in...well, 2002 and I haven't used it much and kind of forgot about it. I have recently been re-inspired to learn it and I have some questions regarding the latest version and the bajillion updates inbetween. Considering how I never really made anything to speak of on A:M 2002, I'm kind of reluctant to buy the latest version without conquering the old one. So here's the questions: 1) Will the models I make in 2002 be able to transfer over to the latest version? 2) If I get the latest version will I have to relearn everything or is it the same as 2002 but with more features? 3) I've always had a problem with A:M 2002 shutting down on …

I purchased a copy of Jeff Paries The Animation: Master Handbook way back when and I'm finally getting around to reading it. I am dabbling with the demo version A:M 98 (V6.??) How much of a difference is there between the version I'm using in the book and the current version as far as the interface is concerned, specifically short cut keys and modeling and animation methods and implementation? I don't want to spend a lot of time relearning the interface if it has changed significantly because I would rather buy the current version if that is the case. Thanks. Keith

It found the CD drive well enough to install the program...what gives? Anyone know the answer? All the settings for Parallels that pertain to the CD drive have been enabled. I have the playback sound problem again. From 16 bit 48,000 Hz Stereo WAV I converted it to a 16 bit 44,100 Hz Mono WAV file and it did not work. So I changed the different tipes of wav and it still did not work. I reduced the file to 44,100 16 bit and then down to a 32,000 Hz Mono WAV and it still would not play back the sound. I solved the problem once but I am sure I did exactly what I did now. Namely converting it from a high quality stereo wav file into a low quality mono WAV file. Can you please help me again on this one? Thanks Fybs.

I use to use A:M on my desktop a lot back when I first got it, then I started slacking off. Recently, I found Anim8or and started playing with that and decided I wanted to install A:M again. Problem is, my EEE doesn't have a CD-ROM. I'd like to know if there is a legitimate way of running A:M without the CD (aside from a volume license). If A:M and Anim8or shared any format, it'd be a non-issue, but I'd prefer to use A:M. Like I said, its been a while since I used it. I have "Sorserez" version CD. (Old, I know.) Hello again, Just popping in quick to see if anyone knows of any podcasts related to Animation Master? I have the privilege of being able to listen to music or what-not at my job, and so I usually like to keep myself entertained by listening to music or podcasts/interviews about various topics of interest. Since A:M is back on my list of interests, I'm wondering if there's anything about this program I could listen to? Google search hasn't really yielded anything, but sometimes it's just a matter of finding the right oddball combination of terms... Thanks!
