A:M Forum Rules
GENERAL FORUM GUIDELINES
The A:M Forum is for technical support and the sharing of tips and ideas between users/prospective users of Hash software. It is moderated constantly by technical support representatives.
DO'S!
-Ask questions about the software.
-Assist other users... everyone was new at this once.
-Inform people of your version/platform when asking for help.
-Share resources; tutorials, models, textures, tips and techniques (link to useful websites).
-Post links to your work, or where your art is being used online (on websites, in games, toons', etc.)
-Search the A:M Forum and FAQ. The question you are about to ask may have already been answered.
-Organize and inform others about user groups, IRC chats, image and animation contests, job opportunities, etc.
-Discuss what you are working on and let everyone know about magazine reviews and articles that relate to your projects.
DON'TS!
-Do Not be rude or disrespectful or mean to other forum members in any way. Personal attacks will be removed.
-Do Not post bug/crash reports to the list (send bug/crash reports to http://www.hash.com/reports.
-Do Not complain about forum content. Complaints or suggestions can be sent directly to hash@hash.com
-Do Not reprimand other forum members for violating forum rules, that's the moderators job, which (unless you are a moderator) you are not.
-No complaining or whining on the forum or distribution of misinformation.
-No flames of any kind.
-No Off Topic posts. (Posts in the Off Topics section should be related to A:M in some form or fashion or benefit the A:M community as a whole).
-No soliciting of any kind without prior approval.
-No threads or comparisons related to other 3D Applications.
-No "Wish list" or feature requests, they should be sent to www.hash.com/reports for categorizing and prioritization (User requests define the future development of the software).
-No "me too!" posts
-No discussion of Hash Internal Affairs (finances, advertising, PR.)
-No posting of private email to the forum unless permission of the author is granted. (Private correspondence should remain private)
-No very general questions like: "how do I make a good 3D model" make your questions as complete and concise as possible.
If you have questions as to whether it's appropriate, send it to: support@hash.com, We'll be happy to let you know whether it is, or is not appropriate.
User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.
Thanks for making the A:M Forum a great community.

Hi all The latest sticking point I've been having with a small project I've been working on. I just finished creating one of the first 3d set pieces I've been experimenting with In this case a stairway. (Yes I know It has a way to go but bear with me) Anyway what I want to do is animate a tracking shot going up the stairs. The problem I'm having Is I mostly have figured out how to manipulate the camera and I think some of my attempts are working. But so far I haven't even figured out how to look through camera 1 so even If I'm doing everything else right for the render I'm flying blind. All suggestions are welcome and with any luck this isn't too stupid a que…

I don't know how to really explain this one too well, so I'll try my best! I've been playing around with the camera trying to make real quick but stylish moves around the models (for instance, a 20 second clip with the camera basically flying around the model). The way I currently do this is to place the model in 1 location, switch to another view option (like "Fill Light"), locate the Camera 1 in free space and then transform it (zoom it closer to the model, spin it around the model, etc..) This is hard as often times with it being wireframe, you'll aim at something completely far off from the model even though it looks like its aimed dead-on. I usually have to…

In a multi-camera setup, how does one make them so when you want to switch from viewing through one camera trained on one object to later going to another camera that is trained on another object? I have messed with the timeline but I'm unsure how to do this. Some assistance would be greatly welcomed. Kind of like having two people talking in a movie and the camera view switches from one face to another as they speak. Thank you ahead of time! Noganite

Hello, I'm new to AM. So far I like it a lot. I have a question: I've seen several animations that show different camera angles. How is this done? Do I render different angles and edit them together in iMove or with in AM? Thanks Andy

I'm fooling around with the lights and camera to get a better feel in how to use them fast and easy and tried to have them circle around static object (model) With both the light/camera I through I could easily draw a circle path around my object and have aim at the object to keep it centered all the time. But both don't seem to want to snap to the path and attach them selfs to it. I've tried manually setting up the camera/light to do a circle motion around an object but this is very time consuming or at least the way I'm doing it. I'm pretty sure there is an easy way to move the camera/lights around in a fluent circle motion Searched around looking for a…

Hi! I'm good at a number of things in A:M. Materials is not one of them. Does anyone have access to a good Army-type camouflage material or have good instructions on how to create a convincing one using the Material plug-ins? There's an old post with a material that has "extended" .trb files, but when I put them in my plug-in folders, A:M says it can't load them. Any help would be appreciated. Tim

I'd like to know if I can create my animations using A:M for the Mac and them render them using A:M for the PC? Any help would be appreciated... T

I'm getting good at modeling. Well, decent, anyway. Now I'm trying to set up rigs. I'm very young and naive in the way of animating my models. (These are my babies, and I'm trying to teach them to walk!). But I'm trying to get a grasp on it so I can become like many of the wizards who reside here. So, I'm learning to rig and I'm getting the concept. I think I can rig a character pretty well from all of the learning resources I've found here. But the part that is confusing me is the constraints. I "get" the concept and how to do it, but I have to set up an action in order to get that option. Is there a way to set up a constraint such that every time I import that cha…

I'm trying to model something with a lot of square shapes in it and I'm having problems with patches forming where I don't want patches (places I need to see through). I realize in the short term I can hide the CP's that make those patches but that doesn't resolve the issue that I simply don't want those patches there. They are completely valid patches but I need them gone. I've tried transparancy of the group of CP's that make the patches but that doesn't even work in render lock (I assume it is done in final render) as the patches still remain despite being changed to transparent. Also, I'd rather not add additional CP's as this causes a domino effect requiri…

I seem to recall running across the answer to this here a while back. Can all the model libraries be transfered to the HD and not run off the CD? I know that it would still be necessary to have the CD in to run the prog, and I'm fine with that. I just thought it might make things go a little faster to have all that goodness running of the box instead of the CD. If so, has anyone tried this and was there a noticible difference? Thanks. C.

I have some old models that were built by John Markus years ago (unfortunately it seems his website has disappeared). They have some rudimentary mouth poses, but are not built with the Preston Blair phoneme set. I customized several new characters using one of his models as a starting point, so they all have the same mesh, skeletal rigging, and pose sets. Since attempting phonemes and dopesheets recently, I'm now wondering... if I build a set of Blair phonemes for one model, can I copy/paste those poses into the other models, and will they then work? Or is it going to be less simple than that? Here's a sample of what I originally did with them, back…

I was trying to figure out all the stuff from the "Can You Say That" tutorial, but then my sound started to act up. I've checked the actual sound on the computer (good) and my speakers (good too). The thing is, KeeKat was talking, but then I lost audio. I got confused with the dope sheets and ended up making two, so I'm thinking that might be part of the reason. Can anybody help me troubleshoot?

Hey, all-- I'm wondering if there is a (glaringly obvious, which I missed?) function in A:M that allows you to subdivide a model's mesh to increase patch density--automatically generate splines halfway between existing splines, so that if you need more control points down the line you can add them, so that it doesn't have to be done by hand? Cheers-- Mark

Hi all Well this is quite embarrassing but I'm having issues trying to activate AM. I've spent the last 15-20 minutes searching and reading but I am still stumped. First the version I bought is the lifetime not the yearly one, don't know if that makes a difference. I have AM installed but I don't see a master.lic file only a master.txt file. When I look at the details of my account I see: Transaction ID AuthCode I tried both of these codes but nothing. There are two other codes but I assume they have to do with the credit card. Where do I find the activation code. *hangs head in embarrassment* EDIT: May have jumped the gun as it shows it's st…

I am struggling to learn about constraints. I want to make eye bones aim at a null target, but I have two problems: 1. How should I do to add a constraint to a bone? I can only add a constraint in choreography. But as I want the constraint to be saved with the model I don't think this is the way to go. The reference guide explains features of different constraints but don't say how to add a constraint... So the question is: How do I add a constraint to a bone that will be saved with my model? 2. When adding an Aim at-constraint to the eye bone in choreography mode it will not work unless I move the Eye bone from the head in the bone hierarchy. The bone woul…

I'm trying to learn how to mix animation with live action video and I'm having a hard time learning. I've seen a few tutorials but they aren't complete enough as I'm too inexperienced to pick up on how to do the directions. Hello there, I cannot seem to find my Animation Master DVD that has the encyclopedia of reference material that came out with the last AM. Of course, I have the CD. 1) Is there an FTP site available to download a zip or somesuch of the DVD? 2) If not, is there a POC I can contact to purchase a replacement? 3) How can I find out when my AM subscription for the year expires? If its soon, I'll just purchase the upgrade (assuming it will still have the DVD?). Thanks so much! John Simons

All the advice I've been getting is starting to bear fruit. The fish is attached to its own path, and an Action has been applied, and he swims and move his fins. But...it's this damned fog! I want some, but when he swims to the back of the circular loop, he disappears. I only have one camera, and I found the Fog settings. I punched in numbers repeatedly and nothing changed. Then I enabled IGNORE FOG. [ON] No change. Then I turned fog itself to OFF. No change. So...where's this fog coming from? [Thanks].[attachmentid=13144]

After reading about poses in techref.pdf, I'm trying to set up a pose slider: Plop a cube into the choreography pane. Right-click the cube's bone, select New | Pose | Percentage. In the relationship pane, rotate the bone and scrub the slider to make sure it works. Back in the choreography pane, set keys on the pose channel. As a result, the pose slider value changes over time, but the cube isn't animated. What am I doing wrong?
