There are some distinct advantages to using the electronic PDF versions of TaoA:M and the Technical Reference. One benefit is in searching for specific topics of interest. You can't do this with paper-based books. When you are working through the TaoA:M exercises you may find turning on Bookmark view to be useful too. This will let you access all the exercises easily from the same menu. Both TaoA:M and the Tech Ref can be downloaded via Hash Inc's Reference Materials page.

Hi All - I decided to try and tackle 11.5. The giraffe was a piece of cake next to Cooper. That kid has me licked thus far! I have some really naughty splines going on. I tried to follow using the book and the online tutorial and I just couldn't get it perfect. I modeled his face three times. Each time I improved a bit more. Finally I got it to a point where I felt I could try and complete the head. So here he is - the whole head, sans teeth and eyes - there comes a time where you say - ENOUGH! But I'm not done with Cooper - I want to apply what I learned while trying to model his whole head. As you can see in the screenshots - it looks like a human he…

I do not want to give up exercise11, but this 5-point patch just not seem to work right for me. I have been trying for an hour now to get this decal done, but I found that the distortion of the image only occurs at the area of 5-point patch. I have tried everything by disconnecting the CP and reconnect it, but when I group those 5-point the "Make Five Point Patch" does not get highlighted. Does anyone have any trick on this issue? CHEERS!

I'm working on just a simple action, the resolute walking.. and when I add a .wav file, the choregraphy becomes larger, which is expected, but the action slows way down. I can't seem to fix that. What do I do to make it work right?

Hi All, I have a few new models I have done and I am at the point of clothing them, so what is the best way? Should I model the clothes over my model or as part of the model? I saw some by JTalbotski and it appears they were applied as part of the model, if so will they move as the model moves? I have seen some info about SimCloth or something like that but haven't check it out much yet. thought I would try you pros first! Wally

We've tested this twice before but this time there is a difference... TaoA:M now has a forum area of its own. As such I'm interested in your feedback. For those that have worked their way through TaoA:M before or those that will be working through it later. What are the pros and cons of the various choices? How would you prefer to complete the TaoA:M exercises? All feedback is welcome and will be used to enhance the TaoA:M experience.

Hi everyone, I'm getting back into computer animation, particularly A:M, and since it's been a while (over a year), I decided to just start the TaoA:M exercises over again. I figured it's a good review of everything. I'm determined to get earn my TaoA:M certificate this time! Anyway, here's KeeKat striking his pose. I discovered that if you hold down the SHIFT key while in camera mode, the Turn and Zoom commands turn and zoom the camera view, as if you were sitting behind the actual camera. Neat! -Sean

I am a clinical psychologist and run social skills groups for children and adults with autism, Asperger's, ADHD and other challenges that affect their social behavior. We create our own simple animations, but it has also been very effective to take existing animations and either narrate them or to create movies based on how different members understand the movie (Imagine an audience reacting to a movie trailer). Here is a sample of one animation my group narrated a couple of years ago (adolescent humor) http://www.bgalephd.com/Practice/LUNCH/200...gbird_all4.html In all animations, we credit the site where they were retrieved from and typically credit the au…

I've been trying to complete the Cosmic Bowling activity. When I click on the "Simulate Rigid Bodies" option, the simulation runs, and it freezes up before the ball hits the pins. I'm using a Macintosh, G4 with a 733 pro. I'm also running the latest Animation Master, v13, with the updates. Anyone having this problem? Thanks, Andy

While working thru the EX17 tutorial, the simulation freezes at frame # 2:15. I saw on another thread from August 3 2007 ( User named "someawfulbridge", post "why can't I bowl cosmically?" ) that someone else had the exact same issue. A Hash person responded that they were able to set up/do the simualtion from the top view in the Chor window and make it work. I tried that and had no luck. They also said that the tut file may be corrupted and that they would try to fix it by next release. I just updated to v15a, but still had the problem. Has anyone had this issue and found a way to make the simulation follow thru? Thanks, Niall I am running a PMac G5 dual 2.5…

Exercise 6 the door's stuck After constraining hand to knob shaggy's hand became 2 hands I checked the constraint by turning the knob to test the constraint and his right hand remained on the knob and his 2nd right hand left the knob. This is the second time for this to occur. After the first time I reloaded the program by down loading v15e. I downloaded this upgrade a week or so ago. ref

I thought that cosmic bowling would be a good one to try Newton on. And after the learning curve, wow, it even spins the ball for me. But, for some reason some of the pins behave perfectly, a foot in the air. NewtonBowling2.mov These are the only settings I've changed in the tutorial project (changes made to the object, not the choreography): ground - static ball - dynamic, density 15, kinetic friction 0.1 pin - dynamic, density 10 To get this result with only those settings input is amazing - much easier than constraints. I've tried changing gravity, to no avail. Any ideas, please?

Just finished Exercise 1. Planning on doing at least 1 Exercise per day until done. :-) I had some fun experimenting with the various controls defined for Keekat and getting a feel for how A:M combines changes on many sliders at once. It's actually VERY predictable, as you'd want and very intuitive.

So, started on Exercise 11 last night, here's what I got to prior to continuing on it tonight. Hopefully I can have the body modeled and be attaching the legs before I hit the sack tonight. I notice they seem to leave a bit more up to your imagination/discretionin this one, given that there's no front rotoscope and only a partial top one to work with. That's fine, though. Make me think on my feet a bit more . Going to have to really pay attention when I'm extruding the body though, to make sure I have what I need to stitch the legs on. Anyway here ya go...

Name: Tim Roberts Exercise Completed: Exercise 11.5, Make A Face Date Completed: Nov. 6, 2008 Instructor: Manual, forum Comments: A couple rounds of working on the face. At one point, I had the full head textured, but no ears. It was impossible to add the ears simply, so I went back to the half head, modeled the ears, flip attached the head and re-textured! Wife asked, "Is he supposed to be an elf?". So, I could see tweaking the ears. Most challenging AM model to date. exercise_11.5_anim_draft2.mov

ATTENTION! You now have new options in completing Exercise 13. The Squetch Rig is now being used in Hash Inc movie projects (Tin Woodman of Oz, Scarecrow of Oz) and as many are sure to use it in their own models it can be used with this exercise. Information can be found on a variety of rigs here in the A:M Forum. There are several forums designed to help you through the installation process: 2001 Rig (The rig you'll find used in the manual) The 'Squetch' Rig Rigging and Relationships Forum Links to Rig Installation (PDF file), the final Squetch rig and sample models will be posted here in the forum as they are made available.
