AM Folks, Ok, I saw the topic about the SFX for the TWO movie, and can't wait to see what you pro's are going to do for those effects, I hope you post some pictures/animations and any tips you may have on doing them. Herer is my amature attempt ,but here all I wanted to accomplish was getting that kicked up dust/dirt/objects effect you see in some tornado footage, Ill experiment more with the actual tornado and surroundings as I play, I want to hear of your tips n tricks...it would be a treat!!!, it is that time of year for trick or treating isn't it? Yes I know the animation is dark, I ment it that way for this attempt.Hope you can see it.... Its Sor 3 mov for…

I finaly decided that it was time to tackle all those scary things like constraints and channels and get down to some animating. So I'm sort of going through the animation bootcamp setup. So here's a first animation with a ball. Pretty basic. Please critique as harshly as you want, especially with timing and weight and just whether the ideas, as simple as they may be, are comunicated or not. Thanks! http://media.putfile.com/helium35

I just posted this rough little clip from my next film. The sets are CG - the puppets are stop-motion and keyed in. This is more akin to stop-motion but you might like some of the CG work too (though very amateurish). Take a look: http://www.justincurfman.com/platelets.htm Love to hear form you. Thanks, Justin

I've been working on a "waves at night with moon" scene for a bit. I think it needs more work, especially with the fog, but I'm sure there is more to improve. I want it to look as photoreal as possible, but I need to find some reference photos or head out to the lake one of these nights to see how it really looks. Any critiques or comments would be great. I'll try to explain more, especially the problems I'm having with the fog, when I have the time, but I have a busy day ahead so I need to go to sleep. Thanks, --Ross

Banded Mushroom

Has anyone got an idea on why my mushroom is banded like this? I have an animated decal (QT movie) as a displacement map but it hasn't got THAT much compression in it. And look at the underside of the "crown;" it's like a surface break... The surface it pretty hi-res; a 40X40 patch grid rolled into a tube. I'm working of this tutorial and Weevil doesn't run into any of this... hash.com/users/weevil/ EDIT : Part of it turned out to be a poorly-compressed transparency decal. But there's still more going on in this image. ANy ideas? Rhett

www.johnaretakis.com HEY- I recently finished a Flash website for a good friend and talented artist, John Aretakis. I am looking to show off my 'Flash-work' and get some feedback from my esteemed fellow Hasher's...who's opinions I respect. John is a mural painter, an art-deco neon electric sign maker, a graphic artist/illustrator, a 2D cel-animator and a 3D hash animator. He's looking to drum-up some work with this site... NEXT---it's high time I redo my own website... it just takes so dang long! I REALLY like the latest version of Flash though, there are some BIGTIME improvements. Anyway, the site is 95% done, so there are some 'dead-ends' here and th…

Hello all. This may be the first time I've posted a still image in "Showcase." Takes a lot less time to render than an animation... I was in a community theater of production of "Dracula" (closes tonight, in fact) and as a gift for the cast and crew, I was going to make a parody animation. Well, I only got the idea a week before closing and that's a quick turnaround time even for me, so I elected to make them a movie poster instead, with the promise of a movie to come. Anyway, the poster turned out pretty well, I think, so here it is.

Here's a rather simple and sort of boring little still from my new film. The only "real" thing in this image is the puppets... the rest is CG. Does it look alright to you all. I'm pretty satisfied with it. Just like to get some thoughts. (I have to go back in post and erase those nasty green halos off of my little guys) Thanks, Justin

The file attached here shows the start and ending frames of a two-second clip of my alter-ego, Danbuster Cameronean Leadboot. He is posing for the camera in his own fun-loving crazy little way. It was intended for my avatar, though only a few frames now exist because of the limit. The wild blond hair is a hair emitter. I had to do it like that, because it was too difficult to accomplish fuzzy hair that sticks straight up using a mesh (as I have with my other models). The fur on the body was accomplished by using a fairly rough and low-scale bump map. The hair is the problem. In preview mode, it renders fully shaded. Here, in the rendered file, the first fr…

Way back in July, barely 2 months after getting animation master, I decided I would make the opening video for Animethon 12 in full 3D. By that time I had played around with the program enough to get a good start on one of my characters, Phin-Phin, whom you saw with her car in a previous thread here. And by that time I had created a Fuchicoma from the Ghost in the Shell manga and PSX game. Quite literally I was cutting my teeth on the program and using this excuse to create something really cool to help me learn how to animate with AM. I managed to create 2 pieces specifically for Animethon 12 that was to be shown August 5th, with one week to spare. T…

This is Captain Barnstorm. A new character I created...because I wanted to! He doesn't have a story right now, but I have a few ideas percolating. I'm not entirely done rigging and making poses, but I'm pretty far along. No textures at this point. The next picture is a few characters from a story idea my wife came up with. If I get it finished it will be in storybook form (hopefully!). I'm very happy with the cow, but the horse is giving me trouble, and I just can't make the duck's wings look right. Bird wings that work right, to me, are nearly unattainable in 3d. I just can't get my brain wrapped around them. Any suggestions from bird modelers would be appreciated. …

This is my rendition of the New NASA moon rocket. The idea came from the NASA website under the heading "How we'll return to the moon." It's very informative with a great animation. Some of you may wish to check it out. As far as my model uis concerned it's patch intensive (Slightly more than 7500) and my computer is slowing down. I'll have to find a way around that beause it's hardly finished. Ed

Hey guys, remember that incredibles rip off I made over the summer? Well even if not, I had a model produced and painted over the summer but for some reason or another I never got around to posting. I built this in A:M, no duh! And had to export it and save as an stl file.... which was not as easy as you might think. Not sure this is what was asked but I like the effect. Uses a grid with a animated displacement material applied with a little refraction. The hair is not on because it seems to be acting strangely in this version v12k and it sped up the render [attachmentid=10166] oh an here's the project but the decals for schlitzy are not included but on the cd [attachmentid=10167] actually the screen is begin to look the same must be getting late was going to mention the actiing is a bit too fast but that can be tweaked aniother thing the displacement/refraction could be on a slider and then if need the distortion could decrease and focus would r…

This started out as a rig test for David Simmons Squetchy Thom rig. It pretty much uses all the S&S features of the rig. A fun rig to work with if you haven't checked it out yet! Anyways I just added the eyes and animation over the last couple of weeks. Hopefully the link will work, OK. I don't have my webspace right now. You have to click on the "320" under the animation for proper size. Eggs.mov Thanks David

Since people are getting more and more interested in 3D cars...a little show-and-tell. I work in Detroit for 'DivisionX', which is a 3D/graphics department of Grace & Wild, a major post-production house. DivisionX is a small group of Maya artists who have come up with a 'formula-approach' for recreating photorealistic cars and have successfully captured a peice of that blooming market. I am not a 'sheetmetal guy', so I handle the day to day graphics and do character animation for the group and facility... so I am 'loosely' a part of the group. This summer, while toying around with Maya, I tried to export a vehicle to A:M to see how A:M would handle the task,…

At this point I have the room and some of the lights, once I feel I have these basic elements right, I will start adding the glasses and the smoke, and the creepy people. Interesting point the door in the back has no texture or color yet and neither does the ceiling. I am not sure I need to add texture to the cieling. Also does anyone hav any tips on shooting in confined spaces? should I pull off a wall or go with wide angles?

Whipped this up in an hour for my reel...shows some of the capabilities of Steffan Gross's AWESOME newton Physics plug-in...which I am gonna use every chance I get. The collision detection scheme is the BEST I've seen yet coming out of A:M, and the plug-in is oh-so-easy to use. A GREAT addition to A:M's toolset. At D1 res each frame took 40 seconds. (No multipass) And big thanks to whoever wrote the helpful tutorial for the plug-in... I've lost the name. QUICKTIME is Sorenson3 compressed .8mb MCsmall.mov

I have been working on modeling more realistic eyes. In the past I have used simple sphere with a decal. The eyes here are more detailed in their construction. The eyes are not spheres but have that shape shown in Steven Tubbrit's tutorial. Larger Image They are based on my interpretation of the following tutorials: Making an eye - by David Simmons Making an eye - by Steven Tubbrit The model is off the cd. I want to fix the ripples in her cheek and add that flesh piece in the corner of the eye. What to you think? Mark

Hello, ladies and gents: Just a quick heads-up to point out that my famous one-minute epic, <ESC>, will be shown tonight on the G4 cable channel, as part of the animation program "Happy Tree Friends and Friends." Previous episodes have included Petey and Jaydee shorts, so I'm pretty amazed to be in such company. It shows at 12 AM Eastern, 9 PM Pacific, with a bunch of repeats later. Also, this showing will include the World Premiere™ of my logo for my new website. Five seconds of glorious narcissism! If you can, please catch it; if not, well, don't feel bad, because I'll probably be too tired to see it myself anyway.

Hello friends. I just finished one of my latest models. It is a "design" mobile phone I made just for fun. I had no idea of how it would en up like, but I don't think it ended up that bad. The challenge in this model is that every corner is beveled (perhaps to much in some places). Anyway, let me know what you think. Okay looking or ugly as sin? Regards Stian [attachmentid=10051]

This is my first attempt at a humanoid model. It's intended for a training video. My rationale for creating a crystalline skater was to make the lines and outline as clearly visible as possible (I also thought it would be easier. I don't think it was. I'll have to model a realistic character to know for sure.) He'll eventually have hands, eye balls, and ears (I hope.) I'm posting him as is because I have several specific concerns, but I would appreciate any and all comments and suggestions. 1) I wanted him to be interesting and well defined, but not too distracting or grotesque. What's your initial impression; is he just too weird? 2) I've inclu…

My film begins in an attic full of childhood memories. This still shows that it's twilight, and the character has just turned the light on, but she's off-screen still. I may put something outside the window, so far it's just a night-sky-fading sunset gradient. There are also some models here that I could post to the forum, most of them "work" (the rocking horse, scooter, the russian doll opens and the tin toy bear marches around and bangs a drum. The books also all have working pages) The dresser doesn't open though. Ignore the fact that the streamers on the scooter go straight out. I haven't simulated yet. This is just the "set dressing view so far." Seana

For a re-make of a character picture portfolio I made years ago, which is being redone in full 3D, I am required to re-create the car that she owns. However according to her story she owns a Slimbikini Miablo VS, which would be a complete take-off of a Lambourgini Diablo. However, I decided to create a car design that would be unique, while still borrowing some of the design ideas of the Diablo. And because of my usual "Must document everything" nature, I still have every single render I created for this vehicle, and I thought it would be something to share. First of all, the original image from the Portfolio: http://members.shaw.ca/nekosei/others/Picture3…
