The latest revision of TSM2 is available for download here: TSM 2.07 This fixes the issue with TSM Rigger failing to find systems and/or crashing in A:M 12.0q. As always, you should close A:M before running this installer, and you'll need to use your TSM2 serial number to activate it. If you have any problems installing or using TSM2, you can contact me at morgan@anzovin.com.

Hi folks, I haven't been checking this board as regularly as I probably should be -- In part because TSM2 seems to be pretty much bug-free, at this point, and partly because I'm just really, really busy. However, if you do have problems with TSM2, you can always contact me directly at morgan@anzovin.com.

We're announcing a contest to create models in A:M for the upcoming release of The Setup Machine 2. Yes, we need cool models created in A:M 2004. Specifically, we are looking for: --A four-armed alien warrior (think Tars Tarkas from the E.R. Burroughs John Carter books) --An evil giant squid --A centaur Specs: Models must be high-quality and professional. They must be animatable, with moderate and efficient, not overdense splinage. No hair. No clothing. No rig. No weighting. Textures can be minimal; we will be looking mainly at the geometry. How to submit your work: Create a web page and put on it links to one or more screenshots of the model mesh …

Hi. I have two questions that I hope someone can answer for me: 1) I have just installed the TSM2 update(2) and, though the installer took me effortlessly through the uninstalling and reinstalling, I now find that the plugins do not show up in A:M Beta2. I have checked in the HXT folder and everything seems to be in place. Any ideas? I have three versions of A:M currently installed, (Versions 10.5, 11.0t and 11.1 Beta2). TSM2 is visible in the HXT folders of both 11.0t and 11.1 Beta2. When reinstalling the installer does not allow me to edit the destination path for the installation. 2) I tried to rig a bird just prior to updating TSM2 but the Rigger didn't…

I think I've seen demonstrations of turning a foot at the "ball" of the foot in characters rigged with TSM 1, but how do you do it? Turning the toe or heel control (which originate near the ball of the foot) just gets me a twisted foot.

I have created a quad skeleton for my T-rex and can't get past assigning cps to the rig. The problem is that the rig has so many bones in it. Attached is a pic of the model with the rig. The spine has five bones, the legs have seven bones, the neck has five bones, etc. I have absolutely no clue how to assign cps to all these bones. Looking at other models from the AM Extra CD only added to my confusion. None of those models have all the extra bones the TSM2 rig adds. Most of these models have one or two bones for the neck, spine, etc. The assignment of the cps seems pretty straightforward in those models. The TSM2 documentation doesn't help either. The ba…

I'm using TSM to rig my robot. One thing I noticed is that TSM gives the arm and leg 4 bones instead of 2. I gather this is for more arm control/more organic look? Anyway, I wanted my robot stiffer. Also, there were too many spine bones. So what I did was removed a few bones to change the rig a bit. Is this going to ruin how the rig works? Is it a bad idea in general?

We're now taking orders for our new CD-ROM tutorial "A:M QuickStart, 2nd Edition." http://www.rafhashvideotapes.com/ With more than 2000 sold, "A:M QuickStart" has been Anzovin Studio's bestselling tutorial since the first edition was published almost two years ago. This edition is entirely new for Animation:Master 2004 and contains even more detail about how to use A:M's many powerful features for character modeling, surfacing, rigging, and animation. The 4 hours of video tutorials on "A:M QuickStart 2" are given by Anzovin Studio's Nat Stein, lead instructor of the UMass character animation course originally developed by Raf Anzovin and Bill Young. We knew it might be coming, but none of us expected it this soon. As I write these words, Steve Anzovin is dying of cancer and kidney failure. He has only a day or two left. He asked me to say goodbuy to everyone for him. I know he enjoyed running the Anzovin Studio store immensly, and being part of this community. We're going to try to keep everything running normally for the most part, but anyone who's ordered CDs in the last week or so may see some delay in shipment. --Raf Anzovin

We're looking for new topics for upcoming Anzovin training CDs, and we'd like to hear what you all would like to see. Please suggest topics that you think would be valuable, but that do not directly compete with Hash's Siggraph tutes. For example, we might consider doing a CD on hair and fur, but only if the content was very different from that of the Siggraph tute on the same subject. And if you feel you are competent to author an expert-level video tutorial of 2 to 4 hours, please get in touch with me at steve@anzovin.com. Steve Anzovin Studio

A quickie screenshot of the The Setup Machine Builder plug-in. TSM Builder lets you specify parameters, such as number of arms, for any body plan, then lays down the bones right in A:M. The TSM Flipper plug-in mirrors the bones and TSM Rigger does the constraints and controls. The Biped tab covers standard variations for humans and humanoids. Quadruped is for animals, Multiped is for bugs, centipedes, and other oddball body plans, and Parts constructs single parts so you can assemble them yourself into anything you can think of. <http://www.anzovin.com/TSM2/TSMBuilderscreenshot.gif> And here are some sample movies of new rig features. The …

Hi all, I got the TCM 2 some time ago and only now got to actually use it. The problem is that when I try to use any of the models I rig with it in an action they get bent and/or twisted when I turn on the TSM constraints. I tried to run the TSM rigger on two of the models that came with TSM (Ogre and Animation Character) and the result is the same. There must be something dumb that i'm doing to cause this! Thaks for any input!

Glad to see this forum. Not sure what to think! So let me start with this: I've heard a lot about TSM. It really seems like a must have utility. Now with the impending change/addition to an A:M plugin it would seem like this is the time to jump on board. So convince me... why do I need The Setup Machine?

Does anyone know how to go about limiting the elbow joint? I don't want it to bend backwards. I see there is an elbow constraint in the pose sliders, but it doesn't seem to stop the the fore arm moving.

Thinking of getting TSM2, but have a few questions... Is it worth it? Can I set up pose sliders for the fingers in addition to being able to roll the handles of the finger bones? If I feel that the pelvis and body bones in the control rig are too small, can I scale them larger in the model window? (will this mess anything up?) Can I put the heel IK control going straight back rather than having it diagonal? Thanks

Just tried to use the TSM Builder plugin, and the Rigger plugin, in the latest A:M update, and it won't build a rig, (although Flipper works just fine) and the Rigger gives the error "No systems Found". Not a HUGE deal since I can just rig in a version back, but kind of annoying. Has anyone else had this issue?

As a brand new user of TSM2 I am probably going to have a few questions about what I can and can't do so to avoid hasseling the Anzovin crew at this busy time I am posting here to hopefully gain some insight from experienced users. Question: When fitting a skeleton to a model is it essential to only use the Scale (S) and Move (M) commands or can you click and drag a bone as normal? The documentation only mentions the S and M commands so I am assuming that I sould not deviate from that practice but I would like to get that straight incase it leads to a problem in the rig further down the setup procedure. Thank you for any enlightenment. Paul Forwood

Are Weightmover and A:M Weights obsolete now? I was rigging a character this weekend, using the new control points weights in V11. It seems to have all of the control of these add-on products, and was incredibly easy to set-up. I had purchased Weightmover, but never got around to using it. I mainly wanted it because of the way you could do scales and other things that you want to not stretch as they bend. Now you can just click "Balance Connected" in the Control Point Weights dialog, and it's done! The process was so simple, and the results so good, that I wondered if there was any reason for Version 11 users to use them, or if they were only really useful for Ve…

Hey- I hope I got it all right, as far as the rules and all. I'm not a web guru, but I went and got a 250Free.com website and plopped my entry in there. I was severely limited by the 2mb bandwidth per file maximum, so my movie is quite small. THANKS for the contest! About me and my entry. My name is Matt Campbell from Detroit Michigan, USA. I find TSM2 a perfect compliment to Hash's simplicity. My 'Rollin Stones' project is eventually for demo reel, as is my CrimeBomb characters. I was having trouble controlling my old skeletons - rolling, range of motion, etc. From what I could tell, TSM2 was supposed to help supply a more usable skeleton. I figured that it would give some semblance of reality in motion. I didn't expect it to be all set up for me, but I did expect it to help. With the great help of another user (I bought TSM2 but have Tiger and it doesn't work) I put the TSM2 skeleton in my model, assigned CPs, and just to test the motion, I created an action and moved the arm (haven't started on smartskin, fanbones, etc). Below is what I get. When you build and install a skeleton with TSM2, doesn't it have some sort of constraints or anyth…

As in volume 1, Cristin discusses ways to avoid common animation mistakes and provides a number of "live" animation examples, highlighting the production process of a professional animator. All o…
