GENERAL FORUM GUIDELINES
The A:M Forum is for technical support and the sharing of tips and ideas between users/prospective users of Hash software. It is moderated constantly by technical support representatives.
DO'S!
-Ask questions about the software.
-Assist other users... everyone was new at this once.
-Inform people of your version/platform when asking for help.
-Share resources; tutorials, models, textures, tips and techniques (link to useful websites).
-Post links to your work, or where your art is being used online (on websites, in games, toons', etc.)
-Search the A:M Forum and FAQ. The question you are about to ask may have already been answered.
-Organize and inform others about user groups, IRC chats, image and animation contests, job opportunities, etc.
-Discuss what you are working on and let everyone know about magazine reviews and articles that relate to your projects.

User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.

Hello everyone, I am going nuts over this: I put some lights in, and I want to switch what type of light it is. There is no option in the properties menu to change the light type. There is Animate Mode, and Width. The Type is just not there. I am using a Mac, and I'm running 10.4, with Animation Master 2006, with the latest update. Any ideas would help!

Hi - I created an animation in a chor of a bottle showing it's different functions and I need to swap it with a different bottle, because the second bottle has the exact same motions - is this possible to do? or do I have to redue the animation w/ the new bottle? Thanks for any help.

I have a stickfigure walking. The walk cycle is 20 frames and I want it to be repeated. I put the model in a .chor and then dragged the action onto it. Now the figure will ony do one cycle (no matter how many times I tell it to repeat) and does the cycle super super slow. Any suggestions?

i have been coming up with quite a lot of cool looting materials thanks to the help of my fellow form goer's but i have reached an impasse, i have loaded a darksim material that creates and effect that looks like circuitry , i want to get a particular color to glow but there is no option to set just the colors to glow that i know of. i was going to try simply placing a second object under neath and having the part i need glowing be clear , but i cant find that option either . any ideas.

Hello - I am almost too embarrassed to ask this question since I have been working with this program so long, but here goes - I think I hit some key on the keyboard and the models look like they are all in low res (image below) I have never had this happen, and I didn't know you could switch it to low res - can anyone please tell me what key I hit to get this view? Not sure where I should put this. There used to be a tut on Dynamic Constraints (I think it may have been a tech talk) that had several examples. I know it contained THE HUNTRESS as part of the examples with her ear rings and such. I can't locate it any more on the forum. Does anyone know where to find this and the other tech talk downloads please. Thanks, EDIT: As usual, look for a half hour and can't find it. Make a post and find it two minutes later. Thansk anyway.

you know those words just under the avatar vid/picture they say "newbie, journeyman, master, exe" some of the words look like theyve been reworded by some people, is it because they have authority to do so, they have a high enough rank or is it because im having trouble trying to do the same to mine? i hope im not confusing you. thx

Hello again, Here is what I got(S). 1. I took a grid and decaled a picture of me on my deck. 2. I cut myself out of the picture and created a grid to match the shape, and decaled myself on it. 3. I set up a choreography with the complete backdrop (number one), the homer model in front, and my cutout in front of that. 4. I set the camera, angles, etc. 5. Lights...I cut all but the key, and made it a cone, the sun was way too much. Problem, I can't get Homer, or the background to look right, they both seemed washed out. I attached pics, any ideas would be great. I don't know if I should be adjusting the lights, or making some changes in the mod…

Does anyone have any resource on how to import the file, this pluggin produces into the target program.... The plugin info does a great job explaining how to use it to create the file.....But I can't see any info as to how to import the exported data into PI... Anyone have any guidance in the right direction?? William

Has anyone completed exersize 20 of the 2006 manual? I was able to complete it all the way to the end then it crashed when turning on draw for the hair. From then on it was impossible to reload the project file wihtout getting an error. I have submitted an error report to Hash but will also include the PRJ file here to see if anyone else can load it. Hi Again - I have an object grouped and gave it a name and colored it red. I wanted to change a color of the portion of it to black, so I grouped that portion and gave it a seperate name - I tried to change the color of that to black - it is showing as black in the properties box but the model is still red- can't figure out what I am doing wrong. I am a newbie here, and i would like to put video on a surface, and "attatch" it to it....what i have been doing is making my video a layer, then frame by frame moving that layer so that it sits right on my 3d surface. This is odd... I have been using the "copy keyframe" and "paste mirrored" creating a walk cycle for a chacter and it has been working fine - then for some reason it will not "paste mirrored". It doesn't paste anything. I have shut down AM and restarted it, and also rebooted the computer and still have the problem. Has anyone ever had this problem?

how do u use multiple actions in same coreography? i was playing with the walking tutorial thingy, when i tried to get the person to make a pose at the end of there walk but the pose action and the walking action started overriding each other. i could have swarn i saw a decent tutorial on how to accomidate for this any help would be ... helpful thanx - eptigo

Hi everyone, I've already bought an Intel based iMac and I've noticed that only selected versions of some programs work with this new Macs. I own a 2006 CD and I'd like to know wich exact version is the one I should install in my computer or, at least, the best version that suits in. Hi, all. I work mainly with video, and I use a program called Pinnacle Studios. It supports picture in picture, which is basically overlaying one video file over another. I've found that AM can export animations to .avi, which works fine. I insert a clip I made and then I overlay an animation created in AM. Unfortunately, the animation has a nasty background. When I insert a model in AM, give it an action, and export it as .avi, it always comes out with a blue 'sky-ish' background and a brown/tan-ish floor, and the model will do an action. This presents a problem, obviously, because I have a clip of humans acting and then it's a whole other clip of an animation …

ive been having some problems here. last night i lost my materials in the library. i tried everything and finally reinstalled windows clean. after getting AM back i was able to get the library/materials to show up from the tin woodsman CD data but cant get them to show up via "extras DVD" anyone seeing this? the models show up just no materials.

So I find myself having fun with particles. I really like the explosion that comes with A:M, and I need it for a project. My only problem is that I need it to be eg 10 times bigger. How do I do that? I've tried to scale the material itself but it didn't help. Any tips?

Hi - I am working on a new gorilla character and creating several hair systems - is it possible to turn the hair systems "off" - while the rest of the character is being modelled. I wanted to do all the work of moving and brushing the hair particles, but didn't want to have to remove the hair systems off parts of the model while creating the rest of it - or even during an animation - it will be way to slow to animate him, with the hair turned on - didn't know if I had to do everything else with the model and do the hair last. sorry for bothering you all again, i wanted to start an experiment with cloth simulations, i have a character with shorts on that should be cloth simulated. i created two materials, one cloth and one deflector... i put the cloth to a group of the pants except the belt-area, the whole body of the character except the head is the deflectorgroup... the whole pants-group is attached to the pelvis-bone. when i start the simclothsimulation in my choreography, all cps of my pants exept the beltsection and the one splinering of the clothmaterialgroup snap to one position!!! i attached some screenshots, maybe someone can figure out what did wrong... thanks agan...

I'm in the midst of upgrading from AM:99 to AM2007 and have a question. I can't seem to get one camera to see another camera's front projection. Is that by design? I want to project an image on a sphere with one camera and record it with another. I know it sounds a little strange, but I'm doing this to composite a few different live shots together in 3D. Here's something I haven't seen before. In "improving" the patches on my model, I naturally want to attach ends of one spline to another to make one continuous spline. But when I do this, the splines connect but the result is not continuous. That is if I hightlight one side of the CP I get one bias handle and if I highlight on the other side I get a completely different bias handle. The "," key verifies that the spline isn't connected properly. This seems to be common all over the model, but if I create a pair of splines out in space and connect the ends, it works just as it should. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Alan

Ok....I'm heading out of town wed, and will be bringing my laptop to work on this program on the plane. My question is, if I create an action for a character (say the penguin mdl), can I then MOVE that action file I created to my desktop and apply the action to the same model, and it will work? In other words, create it on my laptop, then transfer it to my desktop when I get back. Steven

I'm creating a "dance" animation. My action is the character "hopping" forward (puts his hands in front, pulls them back at the same time he jumps forward.) I created this action. When I'm in my choreography, I drop the action into the character, then create a path for him to follow. What I want is for him to continually perform that action while moving on this path. Do I have to do multiple paths, or somehow "cycle" that action? He performs the action once, then stops. thanks. Ok. Nevermind. It's working now. I now have to "extend" the action so it looks like he is stopping after one "thrust" forward with is arms before the next action.
