-Discuss what you are working on and let everyone know about magazine reviews and articles that relate to your projects.
DON'TS!
-Do Not be rude or disrespectful or mean to other forum members in any way. Personal attacks will be removed.
-Do Not post bug/crash reports to the list (send bug/crash reports to http://www.hash.com/reports.
-Do Not complain about forum content. Complaints or suggestions can be sent directly to hash@hash.com
-Do Not reprimand other forum members for violating forum rules, that's the moderators job, which (unless you are a moderator) you are not.
-No complaining or whining on the forum or distribution of misinformation.

-No posting of private email to the forum unless permission of the author is granted. (Private correspondence should remain private)

If you have questions as to whether it's appropriate, send it to: support@hash.com, We'll be happy to let you know whether it is, or is not appropriate.
User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.
Thanks for making the A:M Forum a great community.

i want to scale a bone precisely (not using the mouse) and also scale related cps and child bones. i expect to do this in the transform/translate area of the property window, but the entire transform section is grayed out, and i can't change the values. what's going on? did this method go away sometime since version 8... am i not seeing the new way to do this... or am i experiencing some kind of bug caused by my version 8 model. answers to anticipated questions: tried in versions 12v+ and 12w the model has been imported a few times scaling by mouse does work, but i want precision she's naked now, but clothes are next thanks! -jon …

Several of the tutorials I've found on-line as well as some from the A:M training videos show a color picker on Windows that's much more usable than the one I get when I try to pick colors. How do I turn it on? Is it a plug-in I can download from somewhere? Thanks

hello. im studying the Facial Modeling tute from Anzovin, and i was wondering if im looking to create more cartoon-styled face models, am i still to use as much detailed splinage like is taught in the tute? i was hope to just take simple head shape and basically add eyes, nose and mouth, something similar to a Bruce Timm type style, even how Jeff Lew did "Killer Bean". is there a way that supposed to be approached when modelling a toon thats more cartoon than realistic? and if there's info pertaining to this, could someone direct me to a link? thanks.

2 questions: I'm on a Mac, just got A:M today. Do I have to have the CD-ROM in the drive for A:M to work? That's what it's telling me and I find it hard to believe. 2nd question: I'm running on a dual monitor system, but I can't get animation master on my bigger monitor. What gives? Thanks in advance guys. Kelly

Hi Everyone, I just have 2 questions that I havent been able to figure out myself so far.. 1) If I want to use a custom resolution (like 5000 x 5000) which is not the same semi-widescreen shape that the program defaults to, how would I change this to get an actual view of what the output would be (5000x5000 should be a perfect square). I noticed that if I change the resolution to 5000x5000 when rendering that it will change the 'stage' to that resolution afterwards.. but I would like for an immediate change so that I can see what I'm working with before going through the rendering process. Sorry if this is confusing, I'm not sure how else to word it. 2) I …

In exercise 11 I have formed the head neck and legs but the book never explains how to make the loop at the top of the leg ( never even referred to but pictured in figure 2 and 3, pg 123) I formed the 6 point looped spline to extrude the legs and have done so. Common sense tells me to form another 6 point loop from left view now(not top view) and then attach to the leg....but not sure. Help Please! I am speaking of the loop that would make what I would call the hip at the top of the back leg and the shoulder at the top of the front leg. If I only extrude as the book says from left view I would not have the rotation to view the full circle. Any help would be greatly apprec…

Has anyone out there used the AI plug in that comes with Animation Master? I am trying to bring in a logo from an illustrator file and I can locate the file no problem, the option dialogue box comes up, but when I hit "ok" nothing happens. The model window just sits empty. Anyone actually been able to create a 3D logo with the AI plug in?

I have tried everything, but for some reason, my model's head looks fine in the modeling window, but when I render, it shows noticably fatter. This is the first time I have had a project do this. I have supplied an image to show the comparison. The image on the left is the rendered version, the image on the right is from the modeling window. Image renders fatter in the chor as well. Any suggestions?

I would like to have 2 versions of A:M so I am considering buying a used version and paying the $99 for the upgrade. Is this an acceptable approach? As long as I have a valid serial #, is there any issues? I want to have a second machine that I can push my rendering over to while I am continuing to work on my main machine. Thanks.

I get some terrible results when scrubbing my video. The animation is not timed and it is difficult to see if you have an accurate layout. For example, when doing the "Can You Say That" tutorial, scrubbing to verify the lip sync is just about worthless. So the solution is to render to see how it works. The problem is the render takes 1 1/2 hours to complete. Is there any kind of "quick render" that you can do that will do the entire 6 second video but quickly so you can just see how it looks. I am using an Athlon 64 dual core 4200+ CPU with 2GB of matched RAm and v13C of A:M. Thanks for the help.

I am working on this tutorial and one thing I notice is that the mouth doesn't close after talking (during the pauses of the sentence). I notice on a lot of the examples that it does close. Can some one please share the "secret" with me (I promise I can keep it ) on how to make the mouth close? It looks much more natural when his mouth closes when he is not talking. Thank you.

After a torturous 20 months of where I couldn't get A:M to run on my clunky old computer, I now have a new machine so it's working again... but crashing a lot, even with my old models. The main problem is I have an antiquish A:M2000 v. 8.5, and the new machine runs under Windows XP. I intend to step into the 21st century with an upgrade to the newest version of A:M early next month, so I am getting excited (a gross understatement) about soon being able to start modeling and animating again. Am I going to experience a high amount of future shock when I upgrade due to all the improvements? I remember hearing about u-v mapping, and I'm looking forward to that since I…

First off, I'm brand new here -- I just bought the package last night and have had a few hours to use it. I am just using the basic models/actions but whenever I try to use more than one (for instance, walk for 5 seconds then "idle" for 3 seconds), the idle action messes up the models figure during the walk sequence (usually arms going out of place, etc..) I've tried everything I could think of (including having the 5 second walk, 10 blank frames, then the 3 second idle) but it always seems to happen. How would I do this? Thanks!

I am getting my first copy of A:M ever at the Comic Con this weekend! I will go and get the 2006 version so it will run on my Intel-based mac. So, until then, I will continue modeling in blender, which is fun, but limiting, and hopefully I will be able to do some animation in A:M.... Oh, and not sure if any of you have heard of Ruby Gloom, but my dad's girlfriend is Rita Street, the executive producer, and she used to write for animation magazines, so hopefully she can teach me a thing or two! In the mean time, if anyone would like to see any of my work done in Blender so far, click the link in my sig...

Hi everyone, i'm new to Animation Master but from what i've seen it's a great piece of software. I'm having a problem and I can't seem to find anyone else with the same problem! Whenever I exit the program I get the following error: Animation Master 2006 /Applications/Animation Master 13.0/MasterPrefs.ini was not found I have to click OK about 10 times for it to go away! I've checked and the MasterPrefs.ini file is definitely there, i've got read+write permissions on it and i've even done a repair permissions on the disc. I'm running AM 13.0c on a MacBook Pro, OS X 10.4.7 (with all updates applied), 2.16Ghz CPU, 2GB RAM and a 100GB HD.

Hey-ho. I have a problem that happens every so often: CPs that aren't attached to anything, ones that should only have one bias handle, have two. This makes it so that it's impossible to connect another spline to them and have the two merge into one spline. Anyway, a better explanation is the picture below. That CP has two handles. When I connect the spline to it, I get a spline and a patch that are just weird. What causes this? To fix it I'm having to rip out entire splines (at the moment this seems to be a catching problem, as deleting that one CP makes the one behind it have the same issue), and it's driving me nuts. Thanks in advance, ~ Charles

I'm not to sure if this is the right place to post this but i am not sure where else to put it. I am currently setting up my personal website where i can post all my animations for exercises plus anything else done with A:M. I have already put a link on there for the Hash website for people to go to,but my main question is can i also add a link to the TWO website.I really would like to promote this great project done by the Hash community but was not sure if i was allowed. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Please note the site is still under construction and may change shortly. Cheers Jay http://www.freewebs.com/youngman1/

Hi Hashers, I'm back after an extended absence from AM and animating. I'm trying to get back into the swing of things having recently bought AM 2006, V13.0. Partly what brings me back is I am proposing an animation course at the community college I teach at. The other part is I like animation and want to get back to it. A couple of things I'm trying to find out about are what non-linear editors people like to use, and does anyone have suggestions for classroom assignments for my students? I'm on a Mac and I used to use Adobe Premier to edit my rendered files but they don't make a Mac version of that anymore so what do people like to use? I did a sear…

Is there a way in Animation Master or maybe through a plugin that allows you to apply an animation such as an AVI or an MOV and stamp it onto an object either as a decal or a texture? From what I can see the only plausible method is to save it as frames and keyframe the transparency of each frame, but this is extremely impractical. When I try to apply an MOV as a decal it crashes the program (resulting in 1 lost model due to not saving) and I can't figure out how to add an image to a texture object in a project. I can't even figure out how to save a 24-bit AVI to try using that, and GIFs (the original file format) are somehow entirely unsupported by the program (A big inc…

Maybe this will help me with some of the other questions I have been posting... I am trying to just take a character (i.e. KeeKat) and lifting the right arm at frame 5 and the left arm at frame 10. I do not want the left arm to lift until after the right arm is done (frame 5). However, the left arm begins lifting at frame 0. I have tried to nudge the left arm at frame 5 (by the way, you can only nudge with the mouse cursor...moving by arrow buttons on the keyboard doesn't make it recognized as being moved) to set it in the same position as frame 0 but that doesn't seem to work. I have done several of the tutorials but it seems that I may be missing some basic…
