-Organize and inform others about user groups, IRC chats, image and animation contests, job opportunities, etc.
-Discuss what you are working on and let everyone know about magazine reviews and articles that relate to your projects.
DON'TS!
-Do Not be rude or disrespectful or mean to other forum members in any way. Personal attacks will be removed.
-Do Not post bug/crash reports to the list (send bug/crash reports to http://www.hash.com/reports.
-Do Not complain about forum content. Complaints or suggestions can be sent directly to hash@hash.com
-Do Not reprimand other forum members for violating forum rules, that's the moderators job, which (unless you are a moderator) you are not.
-No complaining or whining on the forum or distribution of misinformation.
-No flames of any kind.
-No Off Topic posts. (Posts in the Off Topics section should be related to A:M in some form or fashion or benefit the A:M community as a whole).

-No posting of private email to the forum unless permission of the author is granted. (Private correspondence should remain private)
-No very general questions like: "how do I make a good 3D model" make your questions as complete and concise as possible.
If you have questions as to whether it's appropriate, send it to: support@hash.com, We'll be happy to let you know whether it is, or is not appropriate.
User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.
Thanks for making the A:M Forum a great community.

My computer is a P4 2.6 GHz with 512 MByte RAM, ATI 9000 Pro video card with 128 MByte RAM, Windows 2000 Pro with all the latest service packs and patches. All drivers are up to date. I am working on a WIP project using Schlitzy. What I am finding is that A:M seems to be getting slower and slower as more objects are added to the project. I am now at the point where I would like to start animating Schlitzy in a chor. The response time between mouse click and something happening on the screen is better than a second. I have tried creating a new project with only Schlitzy and the main objects of the scene, but response time is still pretty slow. Does anyone ha…

Hi! Yeah, that is... All my raytraced proyected shadows seem to me like a bit "sharp" and I think there must be a light option to avoid it in the same way I can add blur (or smooth) to my Z-Buffered shadows, isn't? Although I've been study all the options unsuccessfully and finally I don't know if really I won't be missing something about all this... Ohhh, this damned A:M curse! Always a newbie... THANKS!

Hi all Sorry, very newbie question here. I am trying to make a short film with two different camera shots, but I'm having trouble. Can anyone tell me how to get two cameras to work and how to render them at different points of the film. I would like to have the first camera slowly zoom in one my actor then change to the next camera that is in a different place and continue the shot. Then may be go back to the first camera again. Hope this all makes scene to someone. Thanks for any help from anyone, if you could be as simple as passable because I'm not that up on tect talk. Thanks again Jeff

When you do a "shaded" mode quality render rather than a "Final" quality render......The x,y,z indicator at the bottom left renders into the frame. Is there a way to render a "shaded" mode render without that appearing. Can you turn it off? Thanks, William

Well, hello ...I've been searching and I asked this question too into another post without very luck for now but I think the reason could have been it has gone unnoticed there, so... I'll try new luck here. I'm treating to take advantage of Expressions in general for some automatic movement tasks and specially of that command called "Rand()" but I have a doubt about how could I modify his "temp", do you know how I could get more quick or slow variations with that Rand() value? I mean, I know I can vary the "Amplitude" in this way Rand()*100-50 (in example), but I can't figure how could I vary the "wavelength" to control the velocity with that random movements are ge…

Hi, I'm currently working on an animated story based on a Hindu myth, and one of the characters is a deity named Yama. To be consistent with how Yama's traditionally portrayed in religious art, I added a second set of arms to his body, and a corresponding set of arm bones to each consisting of a Bicep, Lower Arm, and Hand. Here's the problem... When I try to animate the second set of arms, they flop all over the place. The original arms (I'm used the standard AM skeleton) move steadily, that is, they only hinge in one direction, and when I move one bone the rest move realistically with it. What exactly are the settings used to make them move like that, so I can…

I know I am missing something here, and even after surfing around the forum for firework effects and such I still am not able to animate my Streak Emitter properties. When I create a new material I can click on Attribute then animate such things as diffuse color in the timeline. However, if I click on the Streak Emmiter then try changing the rate of emmission at different frames AM does not set a keyframe. I even tried creating a new action, but I could not get the material to show up under the "Shortcut to Model" in the action. That was also the case when I tried looking for a shortcut to the material under the Model's Choregraphy Action in the Project Works…

Hey I made a head in A:M and I also made some ears of my own and I want to attach them, but I think I wasn't paying attention to the number of control points. Not to mention my ear needs to have that amount or it won't work correctly how I want it. Can someone help me out and tell me a good way to attach these? A few years ago I attempted to model a human form in A:M by taking images of a character from Poser with the right, left, front, and back of the character as my rotoscope guides. The worst problem I had was I found myself doing a lot of tweaking of CP's to get the mesh to have the right shape in comparison to the guide images I was using. This eventually led to a really lumpy model and it even seemed to lack good looking muscle definition and was quite disappointing, but it was my first few tries at doing this. Is it worthwhile trying to use something like a Michael 3.0 Poser figure as a guide? How do I minimize the lumpiness problem when modeling? I thought I recall…

Right now my PlayRange at the top of the PWS is white against very, very light gray which is almost indistinguishable. I know there's some Windows interface color setting that manages this and it's not in A:M but what interface elment do i change the color of to get my non playrange area to be a darker gray?

Hi everyone, I'm just starting to do my own modeling in A:M, and I'm trying to close up the "hole" in this shape. How should I go about doing it? I was wondering if I could just extent the splines from the bottom up to the horizontal spline at the top of the hole and attach them as hooks, but it doesn't seem to work. On the other hand, I'm not sure if I'm successfully creating hooks. When I see pics of people's hooks, it's just a spline leading into another at a 90 degree angle, but with no control point joining the two. When I do it, I get a control point... what am I doing wrong? Or if hooks is not a good solution here, what would you suggest? Thanks for any…

Snap Group to surface is "view dependent" which I take to mean that it will move the CPs in what ever direction you are viewing from, right? However, i can only get it to move in one direction. I filed this as an A:M report which is why it's in German but maybe someone here has an answer before Steffen gets to it... SnapGroupToSurfaceQuestion.mov SimpleSnapTest02.prj

I'm trying--struggling, really--to get my head around poses. As I try and fail to create new poses, the pose count attributed to the model keeps growing, so by the time I get one set, it's "Pose 8," and there seems to be no way to delete the other 7 so I don't have them cluttering up my project. This is especially true of the first 5, which seem to be default poses, but I can't find a way to edit them. How do I delete those I don't want and edit those I do once they're set? Thanks. I'm none too pleased with the pose tutorials I've seen--or, haven't--so I'm fighting my way through this, and losing!

Hi, I've been doing a control points faces but, I realised that, if two faces that needs 5 control points are side to side, it won't work and, in another model (I didnt do), I saw something that might solve my problem but I don't know how to do it. Look at the picture: how we do that? BWT, the thing circeled in yellow has no control point, it is just a spline without red dot thanks tido

I have the very rudimentary rudiments of cloth down--cloth and deflectors. What I can't figure out is how to make a blanket/piece of cloth move beyond just the dropping/deflecting. What am I missing? I've attached a quickie test involving some stairs and a grid for cloth. Attempting to get it to move I added two bones to two "attached" cps each, hoping to make those points by which I could drag the cloth. Keyframing those moving after 4 seconds did nothing. So then I tried keyframing the model bone to move after 4 seconds (and that's what's on the attached project), and the blanket still just sits there. What am I supposed to do that is eluding me? Tha…

I just got Animation:Master 2004. And I know everyone is going to tell me to look through the tutorials. But my question is... what do I do after that? I want to know how to create my own animation, whether still frame or music video, but I'm a complete newbie. I know next to nothing about animation but I really want to know how to design cool things. Could someone tell me how to do this? I was looking at Thom in the wireframe mode and I moved all his segments around and everything. Which project do I go to to make things like him? How do I create segments? Can someone please help me with this gigantic challenge? If you could, it would be greatly appriciated.

Until I want them to move. In other words, I'm doing the door tutorial from the AM manual and I've got shaggy pulling on the door. Then I have his leg lifting to help him pull on the door. I then want to bring it down, have him think for a second and then go berzerk pulling on the door with both arms and legs. But when I bring his foot down, I don't know how to build a pause so his foot stays there before the next movement and doesn't slide. How do I apply this to any bone I want? I'd like to build pauses in any bone. thanks

When it comes to making a torus without rotating the to-be-lathed circle, but instead moving the pivot point, I'm unable to get the pivot PRECISELY where I want it. I can move the x/y/z position in the manipulator properties window, but is there a precise way to rotate the pivot axes, to make SURE it ends up rotated 90 degrees (or otherwise) and not 89? Is there something I can hold down when rotating so that it automatically snaps in 5 (or other) degree increments, or somewhere in the PWS where it shows the rotation? Also, when translating the pivot, is there a way to restrict the translation to one axi…
