If you ever wondered why "likes" disappeared from the forum... it was my fault. I figured they reduced actual commenting and thought that getting rid of the "like" button might encourage more responses to posts. I still figure that is true but since removing the option to "like" things didn't increase the commenting, we might as well have them back. Thanks to Rodney for trying my experiment and for undoing it as well! I wonder if anyone will like this post...

Hi Guys, Was working on something for work last week and thought it would be fun to make the basic shapes in A:M even though it was eventually going to be worked on in zbrush/3dsmax. Been getting a kick out of spline modeling again so of course any excuse to play with A:M. my concept sketch and model

The last three weeks has placed me in a funk that has been difficult to get out. WE are bombarded every day with bad news after bad news. In the last week I have decided that I will break out of this funk. One thing I have always done when I am down is to create something. Weather it is art work, models, model railroad, wood working items or even something with AM, it allows me to focus on what every I am doing and get away from all the news. We received some good news this week as our tests came back negative. Even though we have been sick the news lifted our spirits. I decided to create a character that has a "Jay Leno Chin". I wanted the character to be one that was once in good shape but has let himself go a little. One whose upper body was bigger than the larger for design style and the face is happy but that has some features that will allow for "large" facial expressions. I really wanted to concentrate on the shoulder area as I have always had issues on deformation. I decided to model the character with the arms extended down in the first position to see to rotation. Most of the character design wishes I had in my head are coming out. I still have a few things to tweak, but I am happy so far with the results. Anyway here is the New Guy

Hi guys! Here's our new minishort clip. Corona related GREETINGS, stay safe. FYI: Everything was completely one in A:M, except for compositing (AE) and sound etiting (Samplitude).

The library printed my Sphinx j model. Here are a few pictures. As you see, it still did not print perfectly, but I am happy with the result. Thanks again to everyone who helped. Your ideas, illustrations, and video clips really taught me a lot.

I oft times get sucked down the rabbit hole when it comes to A:M. Someone shouts "squirrel!" and I'm off on a tangent faster than you can animate a blink. Last month I bought some new filament for my 3D printer. It was advertised to print looking like wood. So I ask myself, just what can I print to test out that claim? My mind went to a pirate cannon. Of course it did. So I go straight to my favorite 3D modeling software (A:M) and model up a pirate canon, and send it off to my 3D printer. Needless to say the first time through wasn't all that great, but lessons were learned. Below are some images to show how this little worked out. I'm forcing myself to move on to another project, since if I allowed myself I'm sure I would be modeling a whole pirate ship! The A:M model looks a bit like this Of course I had to animate it: canon_fire.avi and the final 3D printed looks like this: The A:M model had to be broken up 18 separate models

Let's start at the end of the train with the caboose. They went out of style in the 1980's but I still think they're the "right" away to finish off a line of railroad cars.

Hi everybody.. since we are in the situation we are in I wanted to share with you a project of mine which I created with my 3d printer and Animation:Master. It is about a breathing mask which is reusable and is easy to clean while being comfortable. If you want to read more about the whole story or want to print your own, have a look at my blog article about it: https://www.patchwork3d.de/blog-5-en/breathing-mask-from-the-3d-printer-1034 Best regards, stay healthy and hope you are fine *Fuchur*

Some of my pigs from Donark are going to Venice to share donuts and recipes. I made a model where my pigs and the Venetians can interact. Unfortunately, it won't be a happy visit. I have attached a picture of my model. It's still in progress, and there will be some additions and tweaking. Among the changes will be creation of a population of Venetians and the arrival of a ship of Donark pigs. The pigs will have an adventure like they've never had before. (I also should note that this model is really Venice-y. It's not really a totally accurate depiction.)

Thanks for the explanation and the example of a sky dome. I have always taken the sky pretty much for granted. I'll have to reconsider the many more possibilities available. The render below has the sky dome.

I decided to hold off on the laptop, but have been working to install Windows on my Mac via Boot Camp today. A much easier process than the one I remember from the olden days (which involved burning an install disc and lots of hoops to jump through.) Everything seems to be fine, so far. I've set up a Dropbox folder that I can use to share files with my Mac and I think it'll be good for my productivity to have a kind of distraction free workspace when I'm working in A:M.

This question came up in Live Answer Time today and I thought I would post the official word from Hash (link is to store page): Can A:M use multiple cores? A:M is currently not fully multi-core-optimized. However A:M is able through Netrender (included for free in v16.0 and up) to use multiple cores for rendering.  OpenMP is used to utilize multiple cores for several operations. More operations are altered to use multiple cores in each update.  Since A:M is a rendering application, it is recommended to use a CPU as fast as possible to decrease rendering time. So if you have an 8 core system, base AM may not make full use of all 8 cores however if you pick up an additional 4 or 10 netrender nodes for the nominal cost of $10 or $15, you can utilize the other cores as background render nodes. So those of you contemplating Threadripper/Ryzen/Ryzen 3000 updates may find this useful info. *EDIT: I should add, most programs are not fully massively-threaded aware yet. I expect that to change over time, but for right now Netrender is the best way to make use of those extra cores.

Ok, I've printed this with PLA filament , on a "fine" setting, at two different sizes. The small one is 1 in high, the other is 2.5 inches. I also did a quick test with white ABS filament, but since I don't have my printer tented it didn't fair so well. But, the PLA prints look pretty good. They would need some cleanup, a bit of sanding then hit with a primer/filler spray paint. If you want them, send me a message with your snail mail address and i will send them along to you.

It took a ton of work, but it's done. A:M Stills is now here and almost all of the images where saved. I'm going to look in to if there is a way to users to 'claim' the image. But I have a lot of work before I can do that I think it will have to be done in the DATABASE it's self. But enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!11 https://forums.hash.com/gallery/category/7-am-stills/

I've been spending my lock-down time giving my steam locomotive something to pull. I'll use this topic to display all of my railroad cars as they're rolled out of the factory. Since showcasing my renders on a personal web site is so 20th century I've decided to make the plunge to Instagram. But the phone-size 1080x608 limit is a bit small for my taste so I'll be putting up the hi-res versions here.

One of these days we need to have a contest to come up with a set of high quality icons that fit a series of themes... created in Animation:Master of course. Fun Factoid: Each like (or other response) given to a post increases the original posters 'reputation points' by one point. Currently there are no icons/responses that give negative points.

You probably have noticed that Z-buffered Kleig light soft shadows (most of what we use) are not rendering soft. Shadow cast on Ground Plane... However, it turns out that models can shadow themselves correctly. So... Use the Grid wizard to add a flat plane to your model and give it a bone that is independent from everything else in your model. In the Chor, constrain that bone to the Ground, then set the Ground to OFF. You can scale that bone to scale the plane to be as large as you need. Shadow cast on plane that is part of model... Of course this won't work when you have more than one model in a chor. For that, take your project to V18 and render there.

Hi everbody, as every year there is a new Advent Calendar by us online. The image has been created with A:M and as always you will find funny, a nice or cool commercials there every day: http://advent.3we.de It is written in German, but in short: Rendeers are unhappy and are protesting and Santa needed to be... creative. Best regards *Fuchur* PS: Just click the big button in the middle to get to it... it just says, that YT videos are embedded on the website and data may be transfered to YT because of that.

Robert, A brilliant solution and excellent explanation. For me, the key concept that I would never have arrived at is making bone F a child of bone B, without any intervening/connecting linkages. And your model and action are far simpler than my almost-works attempt. Simpler is always better in A:M world. Thank you. Joseph

I think it was to do with internal spines confusing the 5 point patch maker. Also a couple of the spines weren't registering as connected (where you have to press 'k' top separate them instead of just hitting delete). So I deleted/reconnected them and that let me close them up. eyelids_V3 5 pointer closed.mdl Hope that helps, Paul
