I am ready to put on some decals, but I am afraid that it will bog down loading of the model when I open it. Any ideas for what makes a quick load? I am also looking for ideas to make it bob realistically in the water.

I'd be interested in peoples thoughts on the little clip I have posted on my website. I'm currently making a short film for both enjoyment and education, so any feedback on the trailer I have created would be great. trailer link Click on the 'teaser/trailer' link. Its a 10.4 Mb quicktime file using the On2 Vp3 codec Cheers Shaun Freeman

Hello - I thought I would try to knock it up a notch in my modeling to see what I was capable of doing at this point. With a little struggling I think I am finally starting to "get it" a bit. I modeled the frog and was trying to think of the most detailed, challenging outfit I could put him in, and I went with a scuba diving setup. So anyway - here we are - I still need to rig him up and think of a short animation to put him in, but this is what I have so far. Any suggestions that you can see to help impove my modeling or anything else, would be much appreciate. Thanks - Eric

So I've created an action for the snail's movement, but when I drop it onto the model in the chor, at first it only partially worked, then I deleted all the other keyframes on the snail model, and now it doesn't work at all. Here's the action. Apologies for starting a new thread but I was afraid it wouldn't get looked at in my wip thread. EDIT: I think the chor may just be buggy. I'm starting it over, so we'll see! snailmovetest01_h264.mov

Hey everyone, A while ago, I mentioned that I was working on a pair of base meshes for my own projects, and that I also would be willing to share with the community at large. I have a full body finished now, but there is still a lot of tweakage to be done. I've been looking at this for a while now, so I was hoping to get some fresh perspective other than the random references I've cobbled together. Please visit the page and let me know what you think and what features you think would be useful in a basic mesh of this type (in terms of being able to stretch/shrink parts of the body, change levels of musculature, whatever). -Edit: Still graphics heavy, …

I'm really getting used to the A:M modeling tools. I literally whipped up this model (made in 2 hours). It's not perfect, it's not finished but it's a start. I could tweak for weeks now but I've limited myself to another 2-3 hours (spread out over a couple of days) of point tweaking. Then I'll texture and rig and maybe add a body along the way. I used no reference, therefore if you tell me it's porportions off I will tell you that it was a stylistic choice (lol).

Greetings all. I've been putting some of my gainlessly unemployed time into a new project, building a county-by-county population map of the United States -- America's other topography. I've been blogging about this project on my site here and thought members of the A:M community might find it interesting. Best, -Matt

Hi all, Here's a render of the new hair from v11 alpha. The image has been softened with this free plugin that I love, DreamyPhoto. You can get it, for Mac and Windows, here: http://www.autofx.com/freeplugins/dreamyphoto.asp?id=7 I still have some things to fix, like the hair penetrating her ear. And since I removed her gloves, I need to add fingernails. Her fingers are also penetrating the gun. It took 4 hours and 47 minutes to render this because I have three wide raytrace lights with 9-11 rays cast, reflections turned on (the gun!), the particle hair and 5 pass multipass. I didn't have the patience for 16 passes. I rendered the image with an al…

hi guys, don't even know if this warrants being in here judging some of the other work, but here it is anyway. I had the idea to do a dryfly now that weve got great hair. i could do with a better metal material for the hook and i'm gonna add a barb to that. the thread is a spherical combiner that is difficult to see in this shot but close up it sort of simulates thread. I did try lots of torus's but there was to much geometry and it slowed things down a bundle. The hair is not groomed, but is tapered and has a two colour gradient. The tips are slightly transparent. This is really my first go with A:M, and i hope to improve my modelling skills as i go, but any idea'…

I know there's a lot to be fixed with this walk cycle, but 'I'd appreciate any help all of you could offer. This is my first walk cycle, so it sucks, it's straight out of the book - or as close to it as I could get. I hope to address your critiques one at a time, but I'm sure that's going to put me into next year as far as the next render goes. but anything you could offer would be appreciated. The link address is: http://homepage.mac.com/teamguy/PhotoAlbum6.html Go to the Graphite file sharing link to download the walk cycle AVI.

Hello All, Here are a couple of water craft that I will be using for my film school portfolio project that I will begin here in a couple of months. The project will be an adventure movie trailer. The first two models of the film look simple but have had their problems. One problem is straight panel lines on curved surfaces. I have used the texture "EDIT" and that works great but there are still some problem areas. I think it is is my approach that I need to rethink. Any way, I would appreciate your input. Thanks AD

Had some setback in trying to get an uber realistic render with radiosity, and had to drop a few procedural texture. No reflection turn on, 4 procedural texture use, 6 lights, 3 composite. win98se, amd2000+,512meg ram,Geoforce4 TI4600, and v10.5k next I will try my hand at flash for the cell between the 2 render element! I would like to hear some comment, please http://www.russellmania3d.pair.com/ BTW just the intro page is done

Does anyone know why I can't get this guys iris to render. It's a material as opposed to a decal. I'm including the heirarchy to make it clearer.

I posted this in another forum topic but remembered I may not have shown this publicly yet. All of the 3D logos in the foreground and background were done in A:M with a lot of help from the Adobe Illustrator wizard. I did it a little over a year ago in v8.5. Compositing by The Wow Factor. Hi, Here's the latest on the Flyer. Trying to get the thing finished by the 17th which is the 100th year of flight anniversary. Engine, wings, and frame are essentially finished. Got to add generator, chain drive, propellers, controls, wires, launch rail, sky and, oh, yeah, a pilot (Orville). Would be cool to have Wilber running along side, but that may be to much to cram in during the next week. Comments welcome. John

All, Time to give a little back to the A:M community AND get some critiques on a robo I did a while back. Can't let John (Artbox) Henderson have all the robo fun. The model Uses lathing a bit too much but here it is: Military Security Robot Download and a 'few' shots: Sorry no wireframes. Render your own... I'll be away from the internet for a day or so but wanted to get this posted before I depart. Am interested in what you Animation Masters would do differently. Legal Disclaimer: Use as you see fit. Donation to the A:M community does not restrict my legal rights to use said…

I would like some comments on this model. I am looking for any suggestions in general, but specifically on how to improve her hair. This is a helmet hair approach using opacity mapping. I'm not convinced that this appraoch is going to work. I might try to do v11 hair. pro or con anyone? Also, I used skycast for this clip. Any idea why her lips and face lose their specular highlights? You can run through the quicktime frame by frame and see different parts of her body in pretty good detail. I can always post more if there are specific questions... Play

18 Nov 2003 - First draft render complete! Thanks a heck of a lot, Hashers at Large, for the support. There's a new reply at the end of this post with a pic of the render. 13 Oct 2003 - I've added an updated post at the bottom, showing my progress on this project. I have some modeling questions about noses, in case anyone is interested in looking. --Ross ----------------------------------------------------- I've got a model in the works of a fishman/merman creature, and right now I'm just trying to get the head done. I hope to make it animatable in some limited capacity (I doubt I'll do phonemes). I have tried at least a dozen times t…

Here's my digger model - rotoscoped from some photos I took from a roading construction site. I'm hoping to animate it for a job I'm doing at the moment. I'm trying to do the tracks at the moment, and I'm trying to bone them so I can get the tracks to turn (as in the excellent tutorial for tank tracks on the AM Resource site).

This is a model I did after seeing this sticker on the back of a SUV window while I was driving. (Digital cameras are great!) My only problem is.... what the heck do I do with it? Any suggestions? Respectfully, Marc J. Odden modome3d2@earthlink.net

This character actually has been morphed into three different characters using the same mesh, this is one of them. I'm open to Q&C, maybe there's something I can add to make him look more like a klutz. BGI: His name is Eddie, he's the second oldest of three brothers that lead a life of crime by robbing banks in the 1960's.

Here's the latest Ernie piece. All done in ZignTrack except the eye direction and blinks. It's a link to Youtube because I couldn't get the higher quality version to upload to the board. Lower quality, but you can send it as a holiday card:

Yet Another Star Wars Indie, I know. But I found this piece instructive and inspirational. What's impressive is not the animated portions (not done in A:M) so much as the integration of animation with live action -- in particular, the editing and the shot blocking. The strategy and tools (DV cameras, etc.) portion is good reading, too.
