The latest revision of TSM2 is available for download here: TSM 2.07 This fixes the issue with TSM Rigger failing to find systems and/or crashing in A:M 12.0q. As always, you should close A:M before running this installer, and you'll need to use your TSM2 serial number to activate it. If you have any problems installing or using TSM2, you can contact me at morgan@anzovin.com.

Hi folks, I haven't been checking this board as regularly as I probably should be -- In part because TSM2 seems to be pretty much bug-free, at this point, and partly because I'm just really, really busy. However, if you do have problems with TSM2, you can always contact me directly at morgan@anzovin.com.

Morgan is promising me that she will be ready to demo TSM2 at Siggraph. It's actually kind of a brilliant thing she's made--very cool. She should be showing it off at the Hash party . . . Steve Anzovin Studio

We knew it might be coming, but none of us expected it this soon. As I write these words, Steve Anzovin is dying of cancer and kidney failure. He has only a day or two left. He asked me to say goodbuy to everyone for him. I know he enjoyed running the Anzovin Studio store immensly, and being part of this community. We're going to try to keep everything running normally for the most part, but anyone who's ordered CDs in the last week or so may see some delay in shipment. --Raf Anzovin

We're announcing a contest to create models in A:M for the upcoming release of The Setup Machine 2. Yes, we need cool models created in A:M 2004. Specifically, we are looking for: --A four-armed alien warrior (think Tars Tarkas from the E.R. Burroughs John Carter books) --An evil giant squid --A centaur Specs: Models must be high-quality and professional. They must be animatable, with moderate and efficient, not overdense splinage. No hair. No clothing. No rig. No weighting. Textures can be minimal; we will be looking mainly at the geometry. How to submit your work: Create a web page and put on it links to one or more screenshots of the model mesh …

Or do you have a deal with Amazon or anybody? I would like you to get the most bang for my buck. Thanks,

Cristin McKee has finished volume 2 of her Animate! series, and it's now available, along with volume 1, at: http://www.rafhashvideotapes.com/animatecdroms.html This is the only complete animation curriculum based entirely on Animation:Master. In this second disc, Anzovin Studio animator Cristin McKee takes you step-by-step through theory and techniques of intermediate character animation, with the goal of helping you bring your characters more fully to life. As in volume 1, Cristin discusses ways to avoid common animation mistakes and provides a number of "live" animation examples, highlighting the production process of a professional animator. All o…

I have created a quad skeleton for my T-rex and can't get past assigning cps to the rig. The problem is that the rig has so many bones in it. Attached is a pic of the model with the rig. The spine has five bones, the legs have seven bones, the neck has five bones, etc. I have absolutely no clue how to assign cps to all these bones. Looking at other models from the AM Extra CD only added to my confusion. None of those models have all the extra bones the TSM2 rig adds. Most of these models have one or two bones for the neck, spine, etc. The assignment of the cps seems pretty straightforward in those models. The TSM2 documentation doesn't help either. The ba…

For any purchasers of the Animate! series or individual discs, we would love to hear your feedback. Please post here with any comments you might have. I'd personally love to hear how useful the discs have been for people and, additionally, if there are any further requests. In a few weeks I will start thinking about possible additional tutorials that I could offer for free on my website so both your comments on the series, and suggestions will help me fine tune what that might be. Standalone reviews are great too, for listing as testimonials.

Just tried to use the TSM Builder plugin, and the Rigger plugin, in the latest A:M update, and it won't build a rig, (although Flipper works just fine) and the Rigger gives the error "No systems Found". Not a HUGE deal since I can just rig in a version back, but kind of annoying. Has anyone else had this issue?

Please forgive me if this is addressed before. 1. Problem 1 While animating with TSM2 rigged characters, a series of hidden control bones gets keyed when I try to make keyframe. Again all of the bones are not keyed, I have to initialise the unhidden bones. Those which are keyed are not required to be keyed during animation. So, too many unnecessery channels in the timeline is creating a problem. This was not like this in TSM1. 2. Problem 2 Paste Mirror command for keyframes are creating weird poses. It is also creating weird rotating fingers when I tried using it in a walk cycle. I usually take help of paste mirror command for keyframes in walk cycles. Again…

Hi. I have two questions that I hope someone can answer for me: 1) I have just installed the TSM2 update(2) and, though the installer took me effortlessly through the uninstalling and reinstalling, I now find that the plugins do not show up in A:M Beta2. I have checked in the HXT folder and everything seems to be in place. Any ideas? I have three versions of A:M currently installed, (Versions 10.5, 11.0t and 11.1 Beta2). TSM2 is visible in the HXT folders of both 11.0t and 11.1 Beta2. When reinstalling the installer does not allow me to edit the destination path for the installation. 2) I tried to rig a bird just prior to updating TSM2 but the Rigger didn't…

I need to rig a robot model. It's basically a biped, but from the hips to the neck needs to be one bone that rotates from the hips. How would I set this up? I tried scaling 1 spine bone and shrinking the others. It seemed to work but when I would rotates the torso, there was a popping motion.

TSM2 only recognizes a spine system of 5 spine bones? It's leaving my 3 spine bone system unrigged. Am I required to have 5 spine bones? TSM1 didn't make that requirement. What do I do if I want only 3 spine bones?

Hi! I've been working with TSM 2.0 on my biped character. I notice that the setup for the biped features three bones per finger. I'd like to create a percentage pose that allows my 4-fingered (including a thumb) character to clench his fist. My problem is that once I run TSM to rig the character, there is only one control bone for each finger, and it does not allow any finger to "curve" or "flex" using the three bones in each finger. Instead, the finger control bones move all three bones in a straight line, which doesn't look natural. If I set up a "clench" pose on my own, and then set the TSM constraints to "ON," the pose will not work. How can I work…

As in the previous volumes, Anzovin Studio animator Cristin McKee takes you step-by-step through major topics in character animation such as walk and run cycles, weight, and acting. The culminating lesson is an extended, in-depth demonstration of how to plan and animate an entire shot. You will not find material at this level in any other animation tutorial for A:M. …

Hello, I am running A:M 2005 (Yeti CD, 12.0n+) on a Dual Processor Macintosh G4 with OSX 10.3.9 (Panther, not Tiger). Two problems with my TSM plug-in: 1) Every time I attempt to rig my mesh model, and select the "TSM Builder" plug-in, I am asked for my name and Serial Number. Should this happen every time? 2) More frustratingly, I go through the steps of choosing the skeleton I'd like to build using the checkboxes, etc. But, when I click "OK," nothing happens. No half-skeleton appears or anything, the TSM Builder box just disappears. Any help that anyone can give is greatly appreciated. I'm excited to work with the TSM Builder, but so far, I've g…

I have been getting an unhandled exception #001, during the final rigging stage with TSM2, which shuts down A:M 12.0v+. TSM2 Builder and Flipper seemed to work flawlessly but the Rigger fails at the last stage. To start with Rigger goes to work with the rigging, control bones appear as geometry bones are hidden, it gets to the last limb, (Left leg), and then before it completes the left leg the exception occurs. I have checked the geometry rig and can't find a fault with anything. Has anyone else been experiencing this? I just can't see what might be causing it. The rig is just a standard biped rig, same as I usually do. Any thoughts? ---------------------------…

I was having trouble controlling my old skeletons - rolling, range of motion, etc. From what I could tell, TSM2 was supposed to help supply a more usable skeleton. I figured that it would give some semblance of reality in motion. I didn't expect it to be all set up for me, but I did expect it to help. With the great help of another user (I bought TSM2 but have Tiger and it doesn't work) I put the TSM2 skeleton in my model, assigned CPs, and just to test the motion, I created an action and moved the arm (haven't started on smartskin, fanbones, etc). Below is what I get. When you build and install a skeleton with TSM2, doesn't it have some sort of constraints or anyth…

Hi everyone, I bought TSM2 last month and rigged some characters easily by using it. The problem is that I can't use paste mirrored in A:M12 for that characters. A friend of mine try to do it in A:M11 (last year CD) and succeeded, but not in 12 version. I didn't add any new bone to the rig but it doesn't work good (I'm using A:M12 under OSX10.3.9 for Mac). Now, I'm looking for some actions that I can use with this rig. Walks, runs, jumps... similar to the ones included in the A:M CD but compatible with TSM2 rig. Does anyone know where I can find any? Thanks for your help

Well, I've gotten to where I can move around pretty well when it comes to creating models, now I'm ready to rig a semi realistic character. I own both TSM2 and Weight Mover. After completing the rigging for my model I found a lot of unwanted folding at the joints (I hadn't used Weight Mover). Playing around with the model has given rise to a couple of questions. First off, how do you Smart Skin after rigging with TSM2? When I move a bone past a certain point in the Smart Skin screen, the TSM Constraint snaps back to "OFF". So I've been turning it back on and continuing on from there. Is there a better way? And would it be better to Smart Skin the model bef…

A quickie screenshot of the The Setup Machine Builder plug-in. TSM Builder lets you specify parameters, such as number of arms, for any body plan, then lays down the bones right in A:M. The TSM Flipper plug-in mirrors the bones and TSM Rigger does the constraints and controls. The Biped tab covers standard variations for humans and humanoids. Quadruped is for animals, Multiped is for bugs, centipedes, and other oddball body plans, and Parts constructs single parts so you can assemble them yourself into anything you can think of. <http://www.anzovin.com/TSM2/TSMBuilderscreenshot.gif> And here are some sample movies of new rig features. Is it possible to have TSM2 installed and operable for more than one version of A:M at the same time? For instance, can I use TSM2 with both A:M 11.1i and A:M 12.0t? I can understand, if this is not possible, but I just wanted to know if there is something I have overlooked and don't want to go attempting to install it twice if it might cause problems with file paths for TSM2. Thanks. Edit: Okay, the installer ensures that previous versions of TSM2 are un-installed before installing a new version so I guess it wouldn't be possible to have it installed in two locations at the same time but can one installation service two versions of A:M?
