-Discuss what you are working on and let everyone know about magazine reviews and articles that relate to your projects.
DON'TS!
-Do Not be rude or disrespectful or mean to other forum members in any way. Personal attacks will be removed.
-Do Not post bug/crash reports to the list (send bug/crash reports to http://www.hash.com/reports.
-Do Not complain about forum content. Complaints or suggestions can be sent directly to hash@hash.com
-Do Not reprimand other forum members for violating forum rules, that's the moderators job, which (unless you are a moderator) you are not.
-No complaining or whining on the forum or distribution of misinformation.
-No flames of any kind.
-No Off Topic posts. (Posts in the Off Topics section should be related to A:M in some form or fashion or benefit the A:M community as a whole).

-No discussion of Hash Internal Affairs (finances, advertising, PR.)
-No posting of private email to the forum unless permission of the author is granted. (Private correspondence should remain private)
-No very general questions like: "how do I make a good 3D model" make your questions as complete and concise as possible.
If you have questions as to whether it's appropriate, send it to: support@hash.com, We'll be happy to let you know whether it is, or is not appropriate.
User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.
Thanks for making the A:M Forum a great community.

Quick question regarding something I am not understanding. If I have a Choreography with two actors in it, and then create two paths. Say I constrain Actor 1 to path A with a Chor range of 4 seconds, and then I contrain Actor 2 to Path B with a Chor range 15 seconds, somehow Actor 1's contraint to Path A will automatically change the Chor range to 15 seconds as well. My question is how do I keep actor 1 going long Path A for just 4 seconds?? Is there a way to edit the keyframes or something else I am missing?? ANy help would be greatly appriciated... EDIT: or I could just go watch the video tutorial on this. Sorry, I didnt see it earlier.

Hi guyz Ive just been wondering about something, have been working in Maya and have recently moved over to Master and find it an awesome package. question is: in Maya you can take two CV's (as they call it) and attach them (merge them into one) how can I do that with A.M? what I mean is, if I want to attach two pieces (splines) that are seperate, and want to make it into one spline. have made a character and in the modeling process it came up. am just curious to know if it is necessary to do this? I know it probebly sounds like a stupid question but,hey Im a nube to A.M,,,,,,,,,, gimme a break! hehe

Hi All, I started doing the exercises in the TAoA:M book last night and was wondering if the render time I got on "A Chorus Line" was typical. I did a render to a Quicktime file and it took over 4 hours (using whatever the default settings are). I'm running a 1 GHz G4 MAC Powerbook with 1 GB ram, OSX Tiger, and AM version 12. Any insight would be helpful. Thanks, Keith

Can the A:M Splash Screen or the little walk cycle animations that appear during rendering be replaced? I'd like to add my own original creations if possible. I just thought I'd ask. Thank you for your time.

Exercise #6 is going to be a large learning curve for me because not every step is spelled out (which is good) and I'm taking some liberties by adding my own touches to it. The oportunities for learning started when I couldn't figure out how to save the project w/ the model with out A:M squawking that it could not save the model back to the CD. Got that question answered and banged head 1st into the next issue. I knew there had to be a way to add a keyframe for a single bone with out keyframing everything on that frame. Every time I have tried to learn this software I always get jammed up about those buttons at the bottom left of the screen. (Forgive me when I use th…

Morning everyone. Ok, i'm going thru the tutorials (again and again!). I'm trying to have my character walk a path, then wave. However, I can't seem to have my character mimic what the tutorial does. My character walks, then "glides" for a bit, then waves. What am I missing? I thought I followed the tutorial, but maybe I keep missing something? Thanks. Steven

Hi All, I figure I should start by way of introduction as this is my first post. I have never animated anything in my life. However, that did not stop me from picking up a copy of Animation Master at NAB 2006 after watching the demonstration a couple of times. Kudos to the demonstrator for a very lively demo and for knowing the product well enough to make EVERYTHING look easy! That being said, part of the demostration showed how one of the 'Tak' commercials was donw using objects layered in the camera's view. Something that stood out was that there was a card (for lack of a better term) off to the side that the camera panned over to that had the logo and inform…

What types of files can be imported in and out of AM? I don't have the software but am considering it because of it's animation prowess, but not real keen on the whole "spline, patch modeling process" and wondered if I had a modeling software like Silo or Hexagon can I have some file format that I can import in and out of.

Hi All, Well, I found the technical reference document of my A:M CD and was just curious if there is a printable copy somewhere that I havem't found yet (PDF perhaps)? I'm the kind of person who likes to have a hardcopy to leaf through on the bus ride to work. I could print the web pages, but wanted to check and see if an alternate format was available first. Thanks, Scott

I'm kind of a new user to Animation:Master. I recently started working on the software after quite a while and it wont let me animate. For example I cant do keyframes or anything. I'll put my character in position and then move the time bar to 10 frames and then move the character again but when I go to 0 it is just the previous pose.

Hello, I'm looking for a way to adjust a model via it's bone hierarchy, and then apply those changes back to the original model. In case that doesn't make sense, here's what I'm trying to do. I'm exporting models (via amxtex) for use in a role playing game. One particular model needs to be of a dead body. The body doesn't need to be animated, so I don't need to export an animation, but I do need to move the limbs around to suit the position I want. I also want to add some other static scenary objects to the model before exporting. Thanks, Scott

I am doing the Flower Power exercise using AM 12.0v on a Mac OS X (10.4.6), and I have noticed that I am having difficulty making a complete group from a lathed object. I create a seven point spline, then I choose the control point nearest the X axis and hit Lathe. It makes a nice round stem. Then I try to group the control points manually (selecting a big box well around the entire stem), but I can't capture all the control points on the screen. Most points are green, but some remain red. I try Select All to capture all the control points before grouping, and it appears to work (all control points are green). I name the Group using the F2 key. Then…

Hey, all-- I'm working through the David Rogers book and I'm making your standard remote control. It is laid out with circle-holes (lathed from a diagonal line, top circle deleted, resulting in a four-point hole) for buttons and a rectangular face around them, with the face comprising five-point patches connecting to the holes' cps. So, theoretically, especially since it will not be animated with any flexing/bending, having a 0-y-scale mesh, even chock full o' five-point meshes, should be crease and wrinkle-free, yes? But at every corner where two or four five-point meshes join, I'm getting a tiny crease. I've tried various combinations of how to lay out …

While I was having problems getting back into the modelling groove for my Batmobile project, I decided to take a little break and work through some of the tutorials in Animation Master: A Complete Guide by David Rogers. I modelled the flour sack and attempted to animate a walk (hop?) cycle. [attachmentid=18185] What do you Animation Masters think? Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Is there a way in Animation Master or maybe through a plugin that allows you to apply an animation such as an AVI or an MOV and stamp it onto an object either as a decal or a texture? From what I can see the only plausible method is to save it as frames and keyframe the transparency of each frame, but this is extremely impractical. When I try to apply an MOV as a decal it crashes the program (resulting in 1 lost model due to not saving) and I can't figure out how to add an image to a texture object in a project. I can't even figure out how to save a 24-bit AVI to try using that, and GIFs (the original file format) are somehow entirely unsupported by the program (A big inc…

I'm not to sure if this is the right place to post this but i am not sure where else to put it. I am currently setting up my personal website where i can post all my animations for exercises plus anything else done with A:M. I have already put a link on there for the Hash website for people to go to,but my main question is can i also add a link to the TWO website.I really would like to promote this great project done by the Hash community but was not sure if i was allowed. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Please note the site is still under construction and may change shortly. Cheers Jay http://www.freewebs.com/youngman1/

Hi all, Wondering if anyone has suggestions for a good online file storage site? I'll need one to place some of these finished TAoAM projects... I've done a google for them, but to be honest, I'm not sure which is reliable, secure, etc. I've tried one in the past and it seemed fine - until I tried referencing files I'd uploaded there. It started blocking the files (and it was nothing copyrighted). When I logged in to check on the files they were deleted. So I really don't want to find another one where they mess with, block or lose your files like that.. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Mike

My journey starts with trying to get Shaggy to walk on his hands. Of course, as hips and legs move, the hands want to move, but I want them to behave like feet. I look into the Hand Targets, but it seems like in the models, the hand targets are not set up the same way the feet targets are, which just seem to work. I try to look at other actions, and see that the stock action 'salute' seems to get gala's hand targets working, but I can't see how? So how is setting up hand targets done? I don't have setting up constraints to other things, but I want the hands to act like feet, and not drift while the hips and legs and such are flailing above them. …

Hi All Ive just completed excercise 10 FW 190 Fighter, and although I have completed ok, there were a few things that didn't match what I was doing to what was stated in the book and on the video tutorial? Hi all, I am embarking on an animation project and just decided to purchase AM but I am a bit hesitant that I will be able to pull this off since I am not a professional. My charachters are simple, a smiley face and a chalkboard with a straight forward story. I worry that I won't be able complete my character rigging and will be dead in the water. How hard is this and do people offer rigging services? I use a Mac and have 10.4.7 (Tiger) and I noticed the additional available software that helps you rig doesn't work with 10.4. Thanks in advance, Lori Hiatt

I'm having a bit of a problem with a model I'm working on. Some of the CPs & splines are pale blue, not the usual red/white combo. I can't select the CPs (even with {Ctrl-A}). The attached image shows the problem areas, surrounded by red splodges. I think what I'm doing wrong is something very basic, but I can't begin to think what it is. hello all. hope everyone is doing well. i was wondering while im learning how to model, does someone who knows how to model, also have to also be good at animating? or vice-versa? like, say if youre the type of person who is "so-so" at modeling, but if someone gave you a pre-built rigged model, you know you could animate the heck out of it? or if you know you suck at or dont have the patience to animate, but would love to be down with a project just to build and model a character? is this acceptible that although a person is assigned a job doing either/or, knowing the other is not a requirement, i.e., and artist that gets paid to model doesnt need to know how to anim…

Hello.. This isn't a complaint about anything, but rather a "how do you deal with this" sort of thing. I'm working through the AoAM book and am still on the "It's a Pitch" project. It's taking me some time thanks to rl issues and, most pertinently, because I'm finding myself having trouble working on it. Basically, I'm finding it very difficult to work with the armature. It seems that I can't get the right angle to move/rotate things and it's causing me alot of headaches. For example, I'm working in left-side view and everything looks fine.. until I look at it head on or from any other angle, then I realize that everything is out-of-whack looking. Then it's…
