User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.
Thanks for making the A:M Forum a great community.

I have been making some figures from the models included on the extras DVD by adding clothes to a previously naked areas. Not out of purience but because I want to use them as passersby in a street scene and bikini's are not outdoor wear in the northen hemisphere around christmas time... However I have a problem with at least one of the models. For some reason the facial map is incomplete and it looks like there is a white border around the mouth. How do I remove the assigned flesh tones if they no longer exist in seperate groups? The model was made and flesh assigned but that group was subsequently deleted so, even if I go through the remaining groups and try t…

okay i have a flattened model that i'm looking to apply decals to. is there some kind of website i can find skin textures for A:M (i know Poser has a website called content paradise that lets you download xtra stuff into it's program so i was wondering about A:M). Or do you generally have to make this type of thing? I don't know how to make good looking skin though... i have Jasc Paint Shop Pro 7, and i was thinking i could make it in there, but i'm not sure how. it generally has the same effects as any other paint program so what effects do you guys use to make skin? i think there was a tutorial, but i can't remember where it was. -hisako

Greetings again everyone, once more, the long time lurker(I swear I'd contribute more if you guys around here weren't so good at helping, ya just beat me to the punch 10 out of 10 times.) rears his head while looking to pick the brains of the Animation: Master community. Anyway here's the pickle I've got. I've been working on and off on a model I started late June and I've gotten to the point where I've finished the mesh and now it's time to make it look more like a someone. Yeah, time to texture map this thing. So while I'm gradually frustrating myself flattening pieces out(The tutorial on the Virtual Media Studios site was very useful), I start thinking "Ya know.…

OK, so i am having lots of trouble animating sometimes. Sometimes i just try too hard maybe, but how are people suppose to animate. #1 The problems im talking about is like, how do you get your character to do all sorts of actions like walking and talking with hand gestures, or like running and jumping. Just all sorts of actions, maybe a bit like combining two actions.?? could any of you tell me how to animate like that? #2. Also a problem i have is kinda stange and i dont know how it happens. When im animating an action, sometimes its really messed up like for a jump for example. ( like a large action, my guy will run, and then maybe turn to the sid…

Hi, I have a problem combining two or more animated clips into one sequence. I am having Shaggy walking towards camera (clip #1 created by using one of the standard actions shipped with A:M, with repeats adjusted to 5 cycles while Shaggy moves towards the camera) and once he stops saying few sentences (Clip #2 created by creating a new 'action' and dropping a prerecorded sound file on Shaggi). Both clips work fine when created in separate projects but I can not put them in one project under one chor in one sequence (walking -> talking), the animation stops after 1 second, the chor length is set to 12 to include the sound file. Any suggestions or perhaps links to tutor…

Using the base Porsche model from the disc to start this project, I modified the car, created all of the lighting, made the animation and the rest of the environment. Camera moves are still a little rough but I just started using Animation Master over the summer. I was using this to learn a little more about using lighting and reflections. Check it out below, comments and tips are welcome!

This may sound like a dumb question here, I'm new to Animation Master and I just modeled my character and added bones to it and all. But I have a question, when you highlight the bones which get on to the model of the character, what does that do? Is it almost like adding weights to the character before you do the smartskin? Thanks, J.W.

Hi, After much trial and error I managed to complete the face portion of the Cooper tutorial... using an alternate subject. In the tutorial, the initial central spline was only carried down to the bottom of the upper lip, so by the time I finished the face half, the central spline was not continuous. Using "Shift + }" I could see that it traveled up the center spline, around the outer face (is this normal?), but stopped at the bottom lip. I tried unsuccessfully to make it continuous. Anyway, I could not get Copy/Flip/Attach to work (read some really good posts about it though), so I copied, pasted then manually broke and connected the splines from the new half to th…

I have been trying to play with fluid simulation but got stuck, but still it's just not quite clear to me. As far as for the Newton physics and the SimCloth, you can just right click on the chor and simulate them, but there is no such option for the fluid. I guess my questions is How can I simulate the fluid? CHEERS!

I know you can use the tilde-key to join splines or press the Left and the Right button on the mouse. But.. I'm on a Azerty-keyboard so there is no tilde-key AND I use the Mac with a mighty mouse. I can't press left and right at the same time. (if can I? ) PLUS I can't assign a shortcut since there is no Join or Spline join command? I search the forum but with no luck. What are my options here? Waldo

Hello, I am working on a short character animation that will be imported into Flash as a sequence of jpeg images. Ideally these should be the images of the character only without the backgrouds (ground, light) so it can be incorporated with the existing Flash scene . I found that I can remove the default ground from the PWS but do not know how to get rid of the sky/light (whatever it is?) that is rendered together with the model. I know that A:M can do that (Merlin the assistant is a good example, it floats and fits to the scene) - any suggestions? Another issue I am struggling with is the combining two animation sequences. In this particular case I have a 1. charact…

Hi there, I've bought AM a few days back, so I'm a newbie here... I can model basic stuff so far, extruding splines, connecting and so on. No problem. The video-tutorials are very helpfull so far. I work also with polygon modelers like Silo, Wings and Strata, so there is a big differents in working with splines. What I really need (and don't find) is a basic tutorial how to: - add points on a spline (If I have points, i can connect them, but I need new ones) - how to connect curved edges to a flat surface (like a tube on a cube) - how to make sharp edges - how to smooth out hard connection/extrusions - how to add tickness - and so on..…

I've had this problem for quite some time now, but it's getting irritating of late. Imported models - regardless of format - basically have every ex-polygon separately shaded. Even if I change all the CPs to Peak, the shading is still all glitchy. For example: How do I keep this from happening? It makes the import completely useless. Thanks!

I recently bought a secondhand Imac because my main PC was going 'wonky'. I went to install AM from the CD and got the message that 'It can't install AM because the OS needs to be 10.4 or higher ' I think the Imac came with 10.3? or so ( you may gather I am a fairly recent convert to the world of Macs ). Is there anyway around this or do I have to get 10.4 or higher ? I was trying to install what was, I thought, AM13 although I also have 14 available. Thank you for your consideration. regards simon

Hi, This question feels like it should have been asked before but I cant't find anything about it... Anyways, is it possible to copy a pose from one bone chain to another? Say for instance I have the pose "Curl up left index finger". My preferred way to animate the other nine fingers would be to copy this pose, and then tweak each instance until it looks right. However, it would seem that the way A:M works means I have to animate all 10 fingers from scratch. Am I missing something or is this the way to do it? Regards, MC

Hi, I hope I can explain this properly. I have a cat that I have modeled using a famous painting as a roto for the face and proportions. In the painting the cat is SITTING, but I have modelled it standing so that I could set up and rig it using the free Anzovin Setup Machine. This all works fine and it walks and moves quite well, but now I need to make the cat sit in the original position as in the painting, but I am finding that I can't achieve the exact position to match the roto using the model rigged like this as it doesn't give me the required degree of accuracy - I hope you are with me up to now. The question is should I animate CP's to achieve the exact…

Hi again all, Been putting bones in my model, (tut. on backbone ) then did the 'new action for a split screen: he crossed is legs. Did he come to life or something? Any way looks like somethings are missing or other things have appeared. I used the rigging that is with AM then added fingers and toes, eyes and tongue. I know this isn't the best model to work with but it is my first try.

Hello, I have been having a little problem getting AM to let me import Quicktime Movies into the Action part of the program. I want to be able to sync animation with the Quicktime movie, but I get a message that says either that it is not supported, or it does not like 16 bit Quicktime. I saw the other thread about saving it as a TGA, is there another way as well? Is there a way to use Quicktime files from other programs like Final Cut? I have been able to use Quicktime movies that I have created in AM, but not successful with movies I saved from Final Cut into a Quicktime movie.
