-Organize and inform others about user groups, IRC chats, image and animation contests, job opportunities, etc.
-Discuss what you are working on and let everyone know about magazine reviews and articles that relate to your projects.
DON'TS!
-Do Not be rude or disrespectful or mean to other forum members in any way. Personal attacks will be removed.
-Do Not post bug/crash reports to the list (send bug/crash reports to http://www.hash.com/reports.
-Do Not complain about forum content. Complaints or suggestions can be sent directly to hash@hash.com
-Do Not reprimand other forum members for violating forum rules, that's the moderators job, which (unless you are a moderator) you are not.
-No complaining or whining on the forum or distribution of misinformation.
-No flames of any kind.
-No Off Topic posts. (Posts in the Off Topics section should be related to A:M in some form or fashion or benefit the A:M community as a whole).
-No soliciting of any kind without prior approval.
-No threads or comparisons related to other 3D Applications.
-No "Wish list" or feature requests, they should be sent to www.hash.com/reports for categorizing and prioritization (User requests define the future development of the software).
-No "me too!" posts
-No discussion of Hash Internal Affairs (finances, advertising, PR.)
-No posting of private email to the forum unless permission of the author is granted. (Private correspondence should remain private)
-No very general questions like: "how do I make a good 3D model" make your questions as complete and concise as possible.
If you have questions as to whether it's appropriate, send it to: support@hash.com, We'll be happy to let you know whether it is, or is not appropriate.
User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.
Thanks for making the A:M Forum a great community.

Hello, I am new and I'm trying to find out how I can make my own patrticle sprites. I've done the Smok, Wind, Fire tutorial but I don't understand what does what, I just did it. Can some one please guide me to a tutorial, or and explanation how to manipulate and come up with your own particle sprites? Right now I'm trying to make a rocket with a trail of fire and smoke.

I want to convert 3D files from other CAD programs such as Pro Engineer. More specifically i want to convert a file format called IGES that is commonly creaded by Pro E into MDL that can be pulled in by Animation Master. What application do you recomend for converting CAD formats such as this?

I am having a problem with rotoscope files. Every time I make my own model or modify a model and put my own materals and/or decals, not a problem, but when i load my project file the second time, I get thousands and thousands of rotoscope files in my choreography list and it takes an extremely long time to load my project file, as well as slowing down my computer. Is there a setting that will limit the number of rotoscope files produced when I do this? Eric800

I met an animation major, and she was saying how on job application reels, it's best to use a minimalistic "rig" rather than a fully fleshed character. She also said some people will throw away a tape just because of the rig they see used. So my question is, what's a good pre-made rig for A:M to practice animating, not modeling? Mind you I do own the bonus models DVD, so those are fair game for recommendations.

I've made a pose slider with Translate to and Orient Like constraints. I want the enforcements of these constraints to have the same setting as the pose slider. I've set keyes for the enforcements at 0 and 100, but when I move the slider away from 100% the enforcement settings changes instanlty from 100% to 0%. How do I make the enforcements match the slider setting?

Hey everyone! Long time no visit. I was starting to toy around with A:M again, and I wanted to make my own character this time, but had a question: I wanted to make the general shape of my character first, and then gradually add detail to it. Is there an easy way to say, "add spline down shape, between the two existing splines running in this direction"? That'd be really great.

Rodney, I have a very basic question- and figured this is the place to post it. I'm working through the exercises and am having trouble with posing Rabit. In essence, I want to rotate Rabbit's foot- but every time I click on it the whole leg moves. The video manual moves through this step very quickly. It appears that the pointer changes (from a standard arrow to two ying-yang arrows) when the foot rotates. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Brian

I had purchased AM twice in the past, and the last time was Animation Master 2000, v8.5 I had taken up animation as a hobby, and completed all the examples in the book. Fast-forward to 2009: I would like to get back into animation and character modeling, and was looking at the following free products: * Blender: best free product, but difficult to use * Alice: fun, but more for kids * POV-Ray: nice, but not as intuitive as AM * 3D Studio Max: too expensive... * Maya: ... likewise But I still love AM, am would consider getting an upgrade: * the Hash website has an unversioned product (posted 2007?) for $299 * SafeHarbor (sharbor.com) has…

Simple question, I want to pan over an existing looping video placed in chor as a rotoscope or layer, how do I get AM to loop it? Right now it plays once and gets temperamental if I try to set different lengths or key frame numbers. v15 seems to have more options for this than v13 and 13 seems to crop a frame or two from rotos but either version will do for what I want. Any hints? okay dropping the same video as a second rotoscope gives me another repeat but then there's no smoothness to the position keyframes... I'm probably missing some obvious "loop animation" button, right?

I am experimenting with encorporating different dressparts( and colors) into the same model by scaling them down in a pose and hiding them inside the body, so that I can switch from normal to superheroe just by moving the poseslider. Has anybody some expierience with this? Might this cause rendering artifacts for instance or other problems?

Hi All, I just wanted to see if anyone has any info on making toys with AM. I remember talking to Victor Navone about making Blitz model / statues like ages ago and he sent me some links to toy makers which I have lost, like ages ago. I do know that the models are created on Rapid Prototype Machines and you need to send them to the Toy makers in STL ( Stereolithography) file format for the machines to output, but not how to convert AM models. Animation Master is such a powerful organic modelling application, it is such a waste to not be able to this sort of work with it. If anyone has used AM to create toys or models, I would like to hear about the…

While fumbling around with posebuilding I found that I sometimes wanted to remove certain manipulations just at a certain time, for instance some musclemanipulation of some cps just on a certain percentage . Is this possible somehow? cant find a keyframe somehow , that I could delete or are these keyframes in poses hidden somewhere deep under the "hood" ? That would mean to start all over again with a new pose, each time I would do some minor missmanipulation....

I've just installed AM 15.0 from a CD. I started reading the manual, wishing to learn the ropes, and one of the first steps is to find a model in the Library. But I have no models in the Library! The tabs are certainly there, for Models, Action, Materials, etc. But there's nothing inside any of the sub-libraries. I checked my CD (or is it a DVD?), and in a folder called 'Data', I can see all of these Libraries, lots of models and actions and so forth in there. I re-installed AM once again. Same result. Nothing put into the Libraries. This is a Mac OSX version. I'm running Leopard. Can anyone help me with this? All I want to do is get started, and I c…

Quick question... Is it possible to delete a control point from a spline so that the curve of the spline is maintained? Something like when you shift click to add a CP to a spline and the CPs before and after the new CP automatically adjust their bias to maintain the curve. For instance, I have the following spline... But when I delete a CP, it distorts the spline, which is what I don't want to happen. Thanks... Al

Hey, I know I've read about this somewhere in here but I can't find it. Am I better off rendering each part of a project separately then compositing it in AE or AM? For example, if it is a small video (under a minute) is this worth the trouble? For example, Jeff Lew's "Killer Bean" (the party) was each shot created in the Chor, or layered and composited together. Thanks, Andy

Hi, at the intro video of Animation Master you have Homer Simpson and a T-rex being animated! I wonder if someone has this model? I didn't find at the extras CD that people mentioned in other posts. Also, Homer, the fat guy, is no longer avaiable at the FTP. I saw at other posts that it was in the Data folder of the FTP, which doesn't exist anymore. Hello: I am a newbie to AM. I have v12. I am following the "Take a Walk" exercise and have created the 4 poses for the rabbit (frames 0 - 15). The tut says to copy frame 0 and paste mirrored to frame 20 and so on. When I do this, I don't see any change in Frame 20. I tried doing all the other copy/pastes as indicated in the tut. When I play the frames, nothing happens. Only my 4 changes show up. Is there some setting I need to do to make paste mirrored work? Whats the best way to troubleshoot? Thx

I am setting up some smart skin on eye lids. Looking from the side the corners of the eye lid do not line up as this view shows. I don't know if it's possible but here is what I want to do. I want to rotate the eye lid to the full open and full closed positions with the Rotation Manipulator. I know how to move the Pivot to the center of the eye socket. I'm still learning expressions. Is there a simple way to save a randomly generated value so that it can be used throughout the animation after it's been generated at frame zero? I have a "flock" of stars, and want them to rotate about the Y axis by a constant amount of between -1 and +1 degrees per frame - a bit like they are hanging from a child's mobile. I've used the flocking plugin to generate all my stars - would each have its own variable or would they all rotate by the same amount?

The idea is a thick rubber band with both ends tightly clamped so that when a ball strikes the rubber band, the body of the rubber band fluctuates the most at the center and less as it gets closer to the clamped edges. Here's the technical run down, I need to make a tube with 5 ringlets made up of vertices(I don't remember what they're called in A:M) be struck by another rigid body that causes the center ring(#3) to spring/bounce at say 100%, the rings directly above and below(#'s 2 & 4) to spring/bounce at 50%, and finally the top and bottom rings (#'s 1 & 5) not to move at all with a spring/bounce of 0%. How do I go about this? [Apologies in adva…

I suppose I could just do glow "off" "on" "off" "on" etc., but I wanted to fade it off and one. Anyway - thanks. - Eric
