The A:M Forum is for technical support and the sharing of tips and ideas between users/prospective users of Hash software. It is moderated constantly by technical support representatives.

User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.

hello again unfortunatly due to a Hard drive failure i lost my working copy of AM as well as most of my files ( sigh ) but good news is i still have you guys as i have been trying to rebuild my files i have been working on making shield effects and while i have had good success with making mats that look good i cant seam to remember how to move them along a surface as ever time i try and translate them it moves the solid not the mat . any one remember how to do this???

Hi - playing around with an explosion material that I downloaded I think from a zip file that John put up. I remember playing w/ it a ways back and it worked fine. I have the "show particles" turned on, so that it is not the issue. I assigned it to a basic ball model which I brought into a chor. It is doing nothing - not showing any particles - is there something I am missing something else I am not turning on - I attached an image of the "explosion" material. Thanks.

Hello - basic question, I think - I remember doing something like this a way back - but not sure how I did it. I have a "smoke" emitter in a chor. I turn it "on" at 3 seconds into the chor - and turn it "off" two seconds later - when I watch it in the timeline it works perfect - smoke comes in then fades out and disappears, but when I render it out, smoke comes in then abruptly stops when it hits the frame where I turned it "off". Am I doing something wrong, or is there a way to make it slowy turn "off" with a pose slider or something? Thanks for any help. ;-)

Hi I am using a macbook at school, and i am working on animation during my art class because my teacher has let me do so, buuuuut i was trying out the talking on my character and it is having a lot of problems with the dope sheet, i am trying out the sound "secret" and i type into the dope sheet "i've got a secret. Can you keep a secret? Didn't think so" but when i click ok, the only word that shows up on the timeline is "I've" and it keeps having erros like unable to access animation master, and cannot find dictionary. Hello, can someone please help me. I have been trying for a month now to model a robot. I have the robot compleat but I had to break it up in several model files. My original idea was to import all the models into a single model but it is just too complex and was taking hours to drop in a model. I heard you can use Choreography and Actors to get these same results. Something about a hook bone? I'm really not sure, I have been searching the forums and testing it out on my own but I can not get bones created in separate models to interact with each other in the choreograph, please help if you can. -irscottie

Hi - I have to create a "rain" situation for a project I am doing and downloaded a couple of different project files from the forum and I can get any of them to work. For example I download http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=29163 and I have the chor open and scroll over the timeline and getting nothing. I have played w/ this project file before and it worked fine. Do I not have something turned "ON"? Any help would be great. I dont' know if it matters, but I recently updated to V15f I think it is. Hello - I am almost too embarrassed to ask this question since I have been working with this program so long, but here goes - I think I hit some key on the keyboard and the models look like they are all in low res (image below) I have never had this happen, and I didn't know you could switch it to low res - can anyone please tell me what key I hit to get this view? all of my models use the same body and unfortunately they are all the same height. when i change the size of the model in the model window and pose her later, she poses incorrectly. i'm guessing it's becuase while splines change, the skeleton stays the same size. how do i change the model size and resize the skeleton at the same time?

I am using v.12 I am attempting to render my video in layers, and I have a box in the foreground I am rendering individually as a series of TGA images. I have applied the Blur post effect to it. I have turned on the "apply camera's post effects to rendering" in the camera's buffer. My box is rendering blurred, but the edges are coming out hard when I import the TGA. Can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong?

OK here my problem i have created a image to be used with AM's terrain maker and it will successfully load in and build the terrain but when i try and view surfaces AM crashes. i have uploaded the picture listed below my ultimate goal is to have a map that a army or two of robots Can fly , drive.... what ever , so it has to be pretty big but i was sure that my computer should be able to handle that since the cp count shouldn't have been that big land.bmp

Hello everyone, I hope I can get some help here. I bought AM 2005 in 2005 for my Macintosh and had nothing but problems with bugs in the software and unfortunately had very poor results at the time. Fast forward to 2009. Aside from my Mac, I now have a quad core PC with 8 GB of RAM in it. Since AM 2005 had both the Mac & PC software on the DVD, I've been able to load it into the PC and I'm getting some very good results. But, I've got some questions, since I've been away for so long. I am setting up a complicated stage. It to be a city. In the choreography I can have multiple copies of the same building or prop. I was wondering if this can be done in the model window. So you can build a complex building with relatively few parts. And low CP count. Before you drop them in the choreography. Or is this only possible in choreography Also is there a place to change the model file defaults so the “Toon Shading (Method)” can be set to standard when I make a new model?

For a Star Trek parody, I am using AM to construct a CGI Enterprise Bridge set. I have successfully constructed the physical bridge, but am now trying to apply decals for the wall and console images. I was successful for the first two images I tried (planets picture, and Enterprise Diagram), then ran into distortion within the decal when I tried to apply the third one (Indicator Light and Plaque) to the Elevator Alcove Right Wall. Everything worked, right through the positioning process, but when I clicked on "apply," everything inside the decal distorted by expanding horizontally on the left and progressively contracting horizontally to the right, and stayed that way! …

Hi, all! I'm creating a Star Trek Enterprise Bridge approximation that I can render in Stereo stills to substitute for green screen backgrounds I've got the basic bridge structure done OK, but I have to put in the computer screen images with decals. To make the decals look like they are illuminated computer screens, I need to set their ambience to 100% (or higher?0). But when I apply the decal, the Workspace on the left does not reveal any adjustments for ambience under the decal, the image, or the stamp. Any suggestions? Is there another way I can accomplish the illuminated screen look with a decal? Thanks in advance for any expertise you can offer!

ok Looking at two models from the lib. Gala and Lady Goodbody I noticed the Lady Goodbody has no 'simcloth' or materials that make her dress work yet it does when you do an action so how is this done without deflectors or simcloth? or am I just missing it some where?

Hello, I just purchased a new AM disk at Comic-Con. I had purchased one last year as well but was too distracted with learning digital photography and Photoshop to continue with AM for the time being. So I purchased a new disk which I was told would be the upgrade. I uninstalled and reinstalled the new disk but it brought up my old info and serial #. How do I enter the new #?

I know I've been at this way too long today already but I just had something strange happen and I thought I would ask about it. I just finally got to the point where I could start animating and I'm looking through camera 1 in shaded mode. I put one of my characters in skeletel mode and start moving him. As his body departs from where he was another body, identicle to his, appears where he left from. Huh? At first I thought I had put two instances of the same character in the choreography but no matter how I try I cannot select the second instance of my character. Currently whenever I try to select multiple objects via clicking and dragging in windows vista I get a square the size of the selection field that stays after I have released. Its color changes depending on what appearance scheme I use. Most commonly it is black or dark grey. Is this a problem with my vid card? I have an nvidia 6900GT.

Hi guys! I just got hash Animation master at the San Diego Comic Con. I've installed it and started working with it. I noticed that I must have the CD in the CD drive in order for the program to work. Is this always the case? Can the program not run without it in there? Also I'm wondering if the copy I got at the show is a 1 year subscription or the full program. I had thought I was buying the full program, but after reading the website I'm now unsure. Thank you!

Hello - I have a project (cartoonish - not realistic) that I have a cloud that I need to have rain coming out of it raining on a character - then have an umbrella come into the scene and block the rain. i'm trying to add the 2001 skeleton rig to my model in AM v15 and everything seems to work till i start messing with the hands. i've never messed with the hand bones outside of the TAOAM tutorials but from what i gather after going through the forums and examining lady_goodbody.mdl, i have unhid all the hand bones including X finger bone 1, 2, 3 and started assigning the bones of finger to control points rather than assigning them to the general finger. my problem is that when i try to use the right or left hand clench in an action the fingers distort wildly into a mashed up ball at 1% and doesn't change at all between 1-100%. i've tried opening up the 2001 skeleton…

As a user of another program whose name I shall not speak (LOL) there are certain work flows I have grown used to and am curious if I can do something similar with Hash. One involves the use of groups for keying animation. As an example, many times I will key in the body and the face separate, so easy peasy, I would just make two groups, one that contains all the body animation controls and one containing all the facial animation controls. This helps to keep a clean time line and makes it easier if say, want to re-time the body animation without effecting lip sync. I've watched Robcat's uber helpful keying tutorials, but so far haven't figured out a way to do this i…

I was trying to import a rotoscope of some 2d blocking for a shot (using v13.0t) and noticed that all of the sudden, my lipsync didn't seem to match up. I then added frame numbers on my imported image sequence and noticed that animation master would skip frames, seemingly at random. Any idea why hash just won't bring the sequence in like it should and would skip frames? What am I doing wrong? thanks for any help

I've downloaded the Mirror bones plug in and placed it in the hxt folder... as outlined in it's instructions and the instructions for the 08 rig, however, everytime i open AM, I get a warning message saying they were incorrectly installed (for all three files) and failed to launch. So, what did i do wrong? I've tried adding a path in the tools option screen, but get the same message. Can someone direct me to a post or tutorial that will tell you how to install plugins? i know this sounds stupid but as many times as i've been to this website, i can't figure out how to make an image appear under my name in the forum post area. i have an image on my page but some people have an image under their name every time the they post a comment. i just wanted to know how you do that, i can't find a setting for it anywhere.

i was just wondering this because i saw a picture in one of the AM manuals where they had done this with a smiley face and some particle hairs laid out on a flat plain. I know in the particle hair settings there's a drop down menu to apply an image to each individual strand (am i describing this right?), but that's not what i want to do because while that looks nice, i'm trying to apply one image to the entire mass of hair as a whole and not one image on each strand. i feel applying the image one time on the entire mass would look nicer. is this confusing i'm sorry i don't know how to explain this any better than this but if needed i will clarify upon request. …

Hi All, I have had Animation Master for a while now but I haven't really done anything with it so I am still just a newbie. What I would like to do is import some objects from DAZ 3D, Poser and AC3D and a few others. What I need to know is, is this possible? If so, how do I do it? And finally, what control will I have over them? Ideally, I would like to scale them and move them within 3D space. I put some cookiecut decals on two patchplanes and get some artifacts as the cookiecut doesn`t seem to be completly transparent. I have checked the normals o.k., alphachannel is on in the tga decal. Any possible explanation, what might cause this and some help woould be highly apreciated. Win 15f

How do I and where do I share the little clips I've made for review ? I am teaching myself, for about 4 months. So I would like to post some small video so I may get some direction. I'm trying to model something with a lot of square shapes in it and I'm having problems with patches forming where I don't want patches (places I need to see through). I realize in the short term I can hide the CP's that make those patches but that doesn't resolve the issue that I simply don't want those patches there. They are completely valid patches but I need them gone. I've tried transparancy of the group of CP's that make the patches but that doesn't even work in render lock (I assume it is done in final render) as the patches still remain despite being changed to transparent.
