NancyGormezano Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 Sounds like a:m report time, with the simplest case you can provide. I haven't tried SSS in 16rc1, but will try to run a quick test later. Quote
*A:M User* Shelton Posted January 3, 2011 Author *A:M User* Posted January 3, 2011 The new test were without SSS ao or anything. Just trying to render the files. Quote
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted January 3, 2011 Hash Fellow Posted January 3, 2011 Strange result! I'd start removing material or groups one at time until something changes, then you know what might be doing it. Quote
NancyGormezano Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 I just tried (I just put some red pants on my nude lion) - and got funny results in 16rc1/32 pc. But after I closed A:M and restarted - I got results same as 16beta5, and what I would expect. Try closing and restart 16rc1 I have been noticing similar funny inconsistent renders with hair & groups with bitmap plus material on the hair groups - these problems might be related, or maybe not. *A:M User* Shelton Posted January 3, 2011 Author *A:M User* Posted January 3, 2011 Is there are copy of beta 5 around still? Steve Quote
HomeSlice Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 Have you removed the SSS group? Have you tried making a simple sphere with SSS applied to one half of it? If you can get a very simple project to consistently display the error, it will be much easier to fix. Quote
*A:M User* Shelton Posted January 3, 2011 Author *A:M User* Posted January 3, 2011 Holmes I have done exactly what you have described. Started new prj then set a sphere and applied SSS and got sss render. If I remove the group and try to render the sphere it is black. Steve Quote

*A:M User* Shelton Posted January 3, 2011 Author *A:M User* Posted January 3, 2011 Just did it it renders black with no groups applied or any properties Steve does anybody still have 16 beta 5 Quote
*A:M User* Shelton Posted January 3, 2011 Author *A:M User* Posted January 3, 2011 Went through all the options and the plug in shaders were selected. Deselected and viola. So is there a problem with the shadres? Steve Quote
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted January 4, 2011 Hash Fellow Posted January 4, 2011 does anybody still have 16 beta 5 I have it in 64-bit Quote
NancyGormezano Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 I have it in 32bit EDIT: what shader were you using - I don't get a problem when I turn on plugin shaders Quote
*A:M User* Shelton Posted January 4, 2011 Author *A:M User* Posted January 4, 2011 I had skin turned on. Then tried SSS and left skin on. When I started new prj sharada were still on? Steve Quote
NancyGormezano Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 I have sss, and skin shader on the skin, matcap on the pants, and fakeao all going. Perhaps upload your simple model that fails in 16rc1. Hard to figure out what lighting should be for sss & matcap & fakeao all together. Quote
*A:M User* Shelton Posted January 4, 2011 Author *A:M User* Posted January 4, 2011 Well here is the character I have been working on just at the beginning. Quote
jakerupert Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 Hi Nancy, To my taste the SSS doesn`t add anything good. The skin looks like from Madame Tussauds cabinet. (waxy) (That also goes for the Forwood chara.) Sorry, but am I alone with my opinion? (Maybe the AM SSS is not really at the breakingpoint yet?) Quote
NancyGormezano Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 Well here is the character I have been working on just at the beginning. Is this the one that fails? Or has the problem gone away? Are you wanting both skin shader & sss on the skin? Sorry, but am I alone with my opinion. I think the use of sss is a matter of taste, and finding the right RGB extinction values for each character. I have not used sss on any of my characters. I put it on the lion for testing purposes only. Quote
*A:M User* Shelton Posted February 14, 2011 Author *A:M User* Posted February 14, 2011 Well the knee is allowing me to work and get back to things. I decided that Cupid will be more of a child. Since the knee prevented me from a tv commercial, I will use the characters from it in Cupid. So here is a revision of Cupid with the old wing. I will redo the wing tonight and upload some new shots later. Steve Quote
*A:M User* Shelton Posted February 14, 2011 Author *A:M User* Posted February 14, 2011 Here is the second wing. I found on an old cd extra a demon. Borrowed from that idea and will put feathers on the wing. Steve Quote
TheSpleen Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 Those wings you made look really really good! Quote
*A:M User* Shelton Posted February 14, 2011 Author *A:M User* Posted February 14, 2011 Of the two which do you like better? Steve Quote
HomeSlice Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 I prefer the feathery wings. Bat wings on a cupid is a little creepy. Quote
*A:M User* Shelton Posted February 15, 2011 Author *A:M User* Posted February 15, 2011 Thanks guys. Reworked wings before I put feathers on the wings. Steve Quote
*A:M User* Shelton Posted February 15, 2011 Author *A:M User* Posted February 15, 2011 I will feather these wings as well. That being said, I am having trouble getting the material to look like feathers. Is there a tutorial floating out there on how to make feathers. I pulled up the tech reference and found one but it did not turn out. Steve Quote
*A:M User* Shelton Posted February 16, 2011 Author *A:M User* Posted February 16, 2011 Found a feather. Lots of work ahead of me but first finished the legs and rig him Quote
*A:M User* Shelton Posted February 18, 2011 Author *A:M User* Posted February 18, 2011 Here is Cupid with his body. working on Clothing. Quote
TheSpleen Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 I still think the feathered wings are my favorite Quote
*A:M User* Shelton Posted February 23, 2011 Author *A:M User* Posted February 23, 2011 Thanks Gene and Nino. I will have feathers again. just want to start the rigging process Steve Quote
*A:M User* Shelton Posted February 23, 2011 Author *A:M User* Posted February 23, 2011 Starting Cupid's Bedroom Steve Quote
NancyGormezano Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 I will have feathers again. just want to start the rigging process When you do get back to it - I like both this style and this with longer feathers coming down similar to the first example. Nice start on the crib for the Cupidman (cute character)! Quote
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted February 23, 2011 Hash Fellow Posted February 23, 2011 Here is Cupid with his body. working on Clothing. A small tunic or toga might be a propo, rather than full naked. Quote
*A:M User* Shelton Posted February 23, 2011 Author *A:M User* Posted February 23, 2011 Thanks Nancy and Robert. Nancy I used a cookie cutter on that wing Robert got some clothes on Cupid as well Steve Quote
*A:M User* Shelton Posted August 1, 2011 Author *A:M User* Posted August 1, 2011 It has been awhile since I posted anything. Mainly I have been on the road and away from the computer. Here is a shot of the group of characters that I have received the body rig, thanks to Mark. Steve Quote
Paul Forwood Posted August 1, 2011 Posted August 1, 2011 That's a terrific group of models, Steve. Impressive! Quote
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted August 1, 2011 Hash Fellow Posted August 1, 2011 Those look wonderful! Quote
*A:M User* Shelton Posted August 1, 2011 Author *A:M User* Posted August 1, 2011 Thanks everyone. They are finally coming alive! I used FastAO on the render and I noticed some issues with transperency. Is this a problem that anyone else has noted? Steve Quote
*A:M User* Shelton Posted August 1, 2011 Author *A:M User* Posted August 1, 2011 Thanks Myron Here is a shot with cupid showing he is sick. But notice using fastao with 5 point patches and transperancy is causing an issue Will look at the settings. AO Quote
*A:M User* Shelton Posted August 2, 2011 Author *A:M User* Posted August 2, 2011 Ok last post until I get other things completed. I took down transperancy and added one klieg light. No more smudges. Steve Quote
*A:M User* Shelton Posted August 6, 2011 Author *A:M User* Posted August 6, 2011 Rendering my first walk cycle of 8 seconds with net render in vga resolution. It has hair and sss. Rendering on a quad core I7 960 3.2 with 12 gigs of Ram. So far each frame is rendering at 46 seconds. Working like a charm. Steve Quote
*A:M User* Shelton Posted August 6, 2011 Author *A:M User* Posted August 6, 2011 It has been too long since I played with after effects. Converted the pngs to mov and here is the first run of rendering with netrender 16 Steve Quote
