DON'TS!
-Do Not be rude or disrespectful or mean to other forum members in any way. Personal attacks will be removed.

User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.
Thanks for making the A:M Forum a great community.

I just loaded AM that I bought a few months ago and cannot seem to be able to sign in. I tried the s/w registration panels many times and it simply took all the info and that was it. I could not sign in to s/w. Then I registered on the AM site, got confirmation, and s/w still shows no name exists and I cannot use it. Please help.

A few years ago I attempted to model a human form in A:M by taking images of a character from Poser with the right, left, front, and back of the character as my rotoscope guides. The worst problem I had was I found myself doing a lot of tweaking of CP's to get the mesh to have the right shape in comparison to the guide images I was using. This eventually led to a really lumpy model and it even seemed to lack good looking muscle definition and was quite disappointing, but it was my first few tries at doing this. Is it worthwhile trying to use something like a Michael 3.0 Poser figure as a guide? How do I minimize the lumpiness problem when modeling? I thought I recall…

Building my own walk... I was able to do the excercise for TAO A:M with KK... even made him moon walk... But now, trying the excercise on a modified Thom.... I get this.. and I don't understand why. I refreshing myself with the TAO A:M excercise, and using it to reference the "how to" and getting this. Frames 0, 5, 10 and 15 are all okay... copy frame 0, paste mirrored in frame 20... Mod thom almost floating in mid air... and not mirrored from frame 0. Is it because I am past the Y axis "home"?

Hi, I'm following a pretty cool tutorial on how to make a double helix, but I hit a snag. I don't think I have the same version as the author and I don't know how to twist the helix as he says, I added the link and a pic as reference. Can anyone help me on how to find exactly what he's doing? Or an (simple) alternative I could do? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you. http://www.digitalproducer.com/pages/creat...n_animation.htm (Under "DO THE TWIST") Pose.bmp Selecting "Percentage" opens up a link under "Relationships" which isn't what I'm looking for and On/Off just adds more link under action.

I was trying to add a materal to the ground without any luck. 1. I dragged the materal to the ground in the object menu 2. The ground darkened, but did not change. I also noticed that when I add a materal to an object, it doesn't show until I render it. I have a Mac, with a 733 processer. Am I missing a setting or something? Thanks for any help! Andy

Not really sure how this happen since i cant recreate it. I was modeling and decided i needed to zoom in on a part and then move it a bit to center it in the screen. Then i looked down at the picture for just a moment an all of a sudden i had another window open in A;M. It was like those T.V with the picture in picture. An all it had was the area i had scrolled in on. I am not to sure if i can do anything within that window because when i clicked outside it on my main model it vanished. At the time i wasn't using my keyboard or any on screen functions. I was just using the mouse wheel. So is there a function like this in A;M i didn't know about ? IF so how do i re…

Hi - I posted a question a few days ago about what to do when you have 6 cps at the end of and object (like a hand in that case), instead of just scaling the cp down to a very small size. I got some great responses on what to do with 6 cps, but can anyone suggest any techniques for 8 cps like the bear foot below? The scaling down of the cps would work fine, but in this case I have "hair" on the foot and it bunches up oddly when then cps are scaled in so close. Thanks again - Eric

Hi - I did the Smart Skinning for a character I am working on for the Thigh, Calves, Pelvis and Back bones - that all came out great. So I bring the T Bear character into an action w/ the IK Leg Setup Turned "on" and I move the Hip Target down and it result in what you see on the pic - as if I didn't Smart Skin anything. Can you Smart skin a Target? What am I not getting here? Thanks - Eric

Hello - is it possible to have the forearm bone rotate backward using the 2001 rig? - or can it only go forwards? Kind of an odd question, but I am working on a Teddy Bear project, and I need him to be able to reach around his back and open a zipper? Thanks - Eric

Hi - I am having a rigging issue again, I rigged the character using the 2001 skeleton from the library. I would use the new squetch rig, but haven't had enough time to play w/ it to be comfortable - and I need to get this project done. Anyway when I pull the model into an action if you look at the legs they are off center. If anyone knows what I have done wrong, or haven't done with the rigging please let me know. Thanks - Eric

I created a model. A wedding suit. I have a question about how do I get the jacket and pants to follow the arms and the legs when the character starts walking. If I have the character walking. It jumps out of the suit. How do I avoid this from happening. I just started modeling and I would like to learn to animate. I apreciate your help.

Ok, I am having a hard time with this one. I'm trying to make a cut out of a person and decal them on a plane. 1. I cut the image out in photoshop.(not sure what is the best for saving) 2. I want to put the person on a cutout that is the exact shape of the decal. (I'm using it as a prop) 3. Do I have to model the shape, which is taking forever, or can I put the decal on a plane, and get rid of the white background?

Hi, I'm currently working on an animated story based on a Hindu myth, and one of the characters is a deity named Yama. To be consistent with how Yama's traditionally portrayed in religious art, I added a second set of arms to his body, and a corresponding set of arm bones to each consisting of a Bicep, Lower Arm, and Hand. Here's the problem... When I try to animate the second set of arms, they flop all over the place. The original arms (I'm used the standard AM skeleton) move steadily, that is, they only hinge in one direction, and when I move one bone the rest move realistically with it. What exactly are the settings used to make them move like that, so I can…

Hi, I'm very new to A:M and for the past week or so have been doing the tutorials. In the end I would like to add animation to an existing movie file, currently wmv. I understand I have to convert to a supported AVI format before I can proceed. If I add a supported AVI file as an image, how do I get that movie to be the plane of existance for my characters and their movement? I figured I might as well practice with something close to the final product I am looking for. Thanks. Greg

I email this to HASH Tech support....they told me to post it here. I saw an example someone did where the whole scene was rendered to white. All the parts, walls, floor...etc. I didn't know if that was something done in the render mode, or was each piece textured to white. Thanks!

Okay... I've been futzin with this off and on for days... I've looked in the Tech Ref, I've looked in the TAO A:M. I've searched all over the forums and I get different answers. I think it would be beneficial to all newbies to "get" this... so I'm posting it here, hoping that an old tar like me will get an answer... I'll even do a tute on it once I get it figured out. Just as a test animation, I took Thom into the default choreography. I placed him on a figure-eight path to see him from all angles as he completes the walk along the path. I applied the resolute walk action to Thom. I want the finished render to be 3:00 long (that's 90 or 91 frames (another min…

Hello again, Here is what I got(S). 1. I took a grid and decaled a picture of me on my deck. 2. I cut myself out of the picture and created a grid to match the shape, and decaled myself on it. 3. I set up a choreography with the complete backdrop (number one), the homer model in front, and my cutout in front of that. 4. I set the camera, angles, etc. 5. Lights...I cut all but the key, and made it a cone, the sun was way too much. Problem, I can't get Homer, or the background to look right, they both seemed washed out. I attached pics, any ideas would be great. I don't know if I should be adjusting the lights, or making some changes in the mod…

Hi, sorry my english. I have a plane and apply a decal image PNG with an alpha channel to it, like a coockie-cut (the image option is set to coockie-cut). Render runs fine, the plane is rendered without his alpha channel and ground cast shadows too with the "cast shadows" option on the light. But.. i want to see the plane with the decal WITHOUT IS ALPHA CHANNEL IN THE VIEW (in model and choreography). How can do it? Thanks in advance.

Hi - I have run into this issue several times and not sure if it is correct or there is a better way of doing it. For example I am working on a "Teddy Bear" for a client and at the tip of his nose there are 6 CPs - in a case like this what do I do. Should I add a CP at the tip and bring the 6 into 1 or zoom way in on the 6 and scale them close so when I zoom out it isn't noticable. Would love any input on how to work with this situation. Thanks - Eric

Hello everyone, I am going nuts over this: I put some lights in, and I want to switch what type of light it is. There is no option in the properties menu to change the light type. There is Animate Mode, and Width. The Type is just not there. I am using a Mac, and I'm running 10.4, with Animation Master 2006, with the latest update. Any ideas would help!

Hi! I have a question and dont know if it is possible to do that. I animated something. Now I realized, that I should use several Chereographie-Actions for my Character which will hold several different bones in them to easily blend between reuseable actions etc. So I want to transfer one "bone" (for example the Animation-Channels of the Model Bone) to another Chereo. How can I do that? I tried to drag and drop the bone to the next chereo, but that doesnt work. I would prefer not to copy pase every keyframe to the new action, so is there a different way? Thanks in advance. *Fuchur*

Hey, kids-- I'm slogging my way through the rigging tutorial in David Rogers' book. After you rig one leg, it says to copy the pelvis-down hierarchy, select those, enter scale mode, and scale them -100% in the x-axis to flip 'em. That's no problem with CPs, but all of the scale boxes for bones stay grayed out, and I can't figure out how to get them active. I can scale those bones using the scale manipulator in the modeling window, but obviously that is imprecise, and I can't flip them on the x-axis that way. What am I doing wrong? Thanksh--

I'm just kinda going hmmm? Why not? When you open a model from the libraries (or, if you don't have your libraries set up; from the data folder)... Why, when you alter the model in wireframe mode, are you not also altering (scaling/translating) the skeleton? Since you are not actually changing the basic geometry, except to make it taller, skinnier, and thicker here and there; I don't understand why the skeleton doesn't scale as well. I think I'm missing some important aha moment here... because it seems logical to me that both would scale/translate at the same time. hmmm? why not?

Hello - this is an issue I have had before - I put a character in a scene and use the Left and Right foot Targets to make her walk forward - this leaves the Main bone back in the original spot, so it doesn't move with it - it seems to get left behind when you have a character move. That can then screw up other things when animating the char. When animating are you supposed to move this bone with it? - it makes the whole character move though - that is where I am confused. Thank you - Eric

Greetings all; I am brand new to Animation Master after using Truespace and Lightwave in the past. Yep, I'm a bigtime newbie. Although my Amiga days are resurfacing. I have found myself needing to animate a horse. We purchased the Anim master program and NAB to do this. Now I'm in a time crunch, having to learn Anim Master as well as how to animate a horse in AM. Could anyone possibly point me in the direction of an action library for a horse? Thanks.
