  1. It seems to have something to do with the thickness. If I increase the thickness the "carpet" look is lessen. I have been using .015 thickness and have applied ao. I will upload a pic
  2. Before I put in a bug report, I wanted to check to see if others are having issues with hair and ao and version 19. Any hair settings I make to the hair results in a carpet like tender when AO is used.
  3. You made me think I might want to try something like that for next year. Great job
  4. Ok it looks like the path is still set up for AM 18. Make sure you have a backup of your installation key. Change the path of render slave to the folder of version 17, and it will pick your slave for 17. You do that with in render message. I am away from my machine this evening. I will look tomorrow.
  5. Net render is a wonderful addition to the program. But it can be tricky setting up. I have had up 50 cores rendering at one time. It can fun to watch them turnout the frames, but it can be frustrating at the same time. Start simple and build on it. Make sure the server is running without crashing and you have all the parameters set before you introduce the slaves to the server. Launch one slave and make sure it is rendering. I just thought of something else. Itunes maybe capturing the port that AM requires. It seems to me I had to change the port the renderserver uses. http://osxdaily.com/2014/05/20/port-scanner-mac-network-utility/ something like this might help you to see what ports are being used by your mac. That way you make any adjustments to AM
  6. Simon As a test, open up render server first and set up your render project there. Then open up render messenger one core at a time. Bypass the script for now. I had issues with this as well. Drag one render slave into the pool and see if it will render with one slave. I have had a alot of trial and error issues with net render over the years. I would make sure it will work with one slave before adding more.
  7. I know rendering is different than modeling and the issues I am having there but I just wanted to see how different 19 vs 18. Something in my settings of the computer is messing with AM 19. I hope that is all it is. Gerald is there a way to change this in AM? Version 18p AVX Version 19c SSE4
  8. Here is something simple in v19 this took over 7 hours to render. It is a ball with hair density set to 100%. It was done in AO with no special feature on AO 5 passes. In 18 I think it took 24 minutes. So I am thinking it has to be something AM is picking up in 19 on my machine.
  9. I have been having issues with v 19, I think for about two months. In fact I participated in the image contest and could not finish the image in v19. I had to complete the image in v 18. I have created 4 new character models in the last month and half and each time as the patch count rises, v19 slows to a crawl or not responsive or finally crashes. I thought I had a setting incorrect or corrupt texture, material, map or something causing the issue in the models. I have cleared all materials maps and settings in the model but this did not help. Here are the computer specs I7 5930 Intel 6 core processor, ssd drives, with 32 gig of ddr4 ram, nvidia 960 with the newest driver installed, running on three 4k monitors. AM is v19c As I build a model and my patch count gets over 5k, AM simply refuses to take commands or goes in to never never land. I have reinstalled the program to see if that was the issue. It has happened on the image contest and with the last 4 models. If I select a control point it may be 3 -4 secs before it turns color to recognize it is active. If I try to move the control point it may take 5 secs before it will move. If I select draw view I have to select the number more than once before AM will changes the view. Sometimes not at all. I have even dropped the resolution on the monitors and inside of AM. To test to see if it is my machine, I opened the models each one in v18. To my surprise I have no issues of lock ups, it is instant response to my commands even at the highest resolution (page up/page down). In fact I opened the project in v18 and v19 at the same time and tested them with the settings identical in both versions. 18 works like it should,19 crawls or locks up. I did a task manager and watched the performance tab as I was working in v19. When I would select a control point or try to move one, memory usage on the machine would spike to 30%. I am left to abandon v 19 at this time and work in v18. Edit Just completed a hardware test of the memory and passed without any errors. Something is really weird. I created a simple ball and placed hair on it. Rendered it with 5 passes nothing special and finished one pass in 45 minutes. I was wanting to see if anyone else is having an issue similar to this before I placed a bug report.
  10. I finished a new character. I am having some issues with cookie cut on the decals as you can see with her eyelashes.
  11. I reworked George's belly and chest area.. Rendered a full 4k image.
  12. I have installed the saucy rig. The main thing will be the face rig
  13. No i removed the middle ring at the back of the knee
  14. I was reading an article about joints and bending of the mesh. Here is what I came up with a knee. It still needs to be tweaked. KneeBend.mp4
  15. Robert I have taken the hips back down which allowed for more overlap.
  16. Awesome. I have been watching this closely. I will try a project like this next year
  17. I have been smoothing and cleaning up the characters and adding little things. It has been slow going. I have added a little hair and will continue to make tim into a goblin. I have found to do a close up render will help find the problem areas. I have not worked on the eyelids yet but will get there.
  18. I decided a few days ago to remove the very basic rig I had in the horse and replace it with a new one. I used the tsm2 quad rig. In doing so I had to remodel several key areas on the horse. I modeled the horse in 2006 but wanted to use it for this sequence. I also used a custom rig for the knight, and well lets say I was not happy. I was happy when Mack announced 1.5 of the saucy rig. I re rigged the knight with the saucy rig and I have just started weighting (only the legs are weighted). So now I will finish the horse and knight. Over the next few days I will be uploading pics of the process.
