I am still sick. Could not sleep tonight so I got up and worked on the head. Alot of things still to do but here is the progress todate.

Phil I misread your question. I thought I read that you were asking about cloth. My bad. Clothing a character for me is easier than cloth. So what I do is build a model at skin level. I then copy a section and paste and enlarge for clothing. I modify the new section such as shirt. Once I am happy with the clothing I then remove the mesh of skin under the clothing. Or use a pose to hide the mesh that is covered by the clothing. Robert has shown me a complete of tricks that enhance the clothing such as a edge material that highlights the clothing. Materials are incredible to help enhance the clothing. whether it is darktree material or materials from scratch they help cover deformation in an animation. I am just now scratching the surface of how to use materials.

Before we left town, the weather was so bad in Tulsa. I decided to model a female figure. I have started on the head but will have to wait until we get back to finish her. More of cross between real and cartoon. Want to have a "pixar" like face. I modeled this in a afternoon while working on a couple of computers. so there are still some issues.

Hi Phil Well I have dabbled in Cloth and the simulation. It can be very frustrating as the simulation will vary from render to render. I have learned from Robert Holmen. He is the cloth guy. He taught me to start with the model in a compressed state pose in the animation / simulation. This allows the cloth to settle for the first part of the animation. As the cloth is ready after a few frames enlarge the model through a pose to regular state. Sometimes behind the cloth the model may have to be deformed in another pose to keep the cloth from pinching. Remember the properties of the cloth will help with deflection. One thing I have learned is the placement of the cloth material on the model and the deflector group is dependent on the model hierarchy. I have found placing the cloth in deflector group higher in the property hierarchy. There is a tech talk by one of the programmers of the cloth when they were doing TWO. That really got me started. It is found on the forum somewhere. Phil, if you haven't been to Live Answer time on Saturday you are missing a wealth of knowledge from Robert. I am going to send you question to Robert as he has quite a few experiments and tutorials on cloth.

Well it so happens I built a light saber in 2012 . Here you go. I was going to be at live answer time for lighting but did not make it. It is rendering now and will upload in a few

Well felling better one minute next minute back to the same. Just wanted to get back to the screen and do something tonight. Posed Hans with small C curve and opposite twists.

I have been sick the last week. I have not been able to sit in front of a computer until tonight. One thing I find therapeutic is to create. Over the last 23 years with AM some of the best models I have created were the times when I was sick or when I was in a funk. However, tonight I was not able to do much as I was coughing to much. One thing that was pointed out was Han's hand position on the broom. I had noticed it as well. I have re rendered the one scene. I hope to get back to animating shortly but for now I enjoy doing the little ideas.

I will get you this info when I am able to get in front of the computer.

Thank you, Gerald! Merry Christmas!!!

Someone forgot to sweep the worship center for Christmas Eve Service. A pastor's job is never done. Here we have Pastor Hans sweeping and getting ready. Merry Christmas

Bertram has come a long way and he looks great. I still remember that telephone conversation many years ago when you told me of your ideas for him. I think the body shape is perfect for an old gymnast. Great job David. I look forward to more updates and I am sorry it it has been a rough year.

Thank you Gerald. Robert has helped a great deal. His guidance is invaluable.

Here is a Hans after a long day at the church. Believe me I know how he feels. This Christmas season has me worn out.

Here is the animation. I use this for the class I am teaching. Hanswalkin.mp4

Thanks Gerald and Michael!! I will upload the animation as soon as I get it re rendered.

You can see the AMD machine beat the Intel by 2 minutes and 40 seconds. To be fair the AMD is the newest generation processors while the Intel is two generation old now, but still a powerful machine.

Looking forward to seeing them as well. Steve

I love it. Nice work!!

Over the course of the last 6 years, Robert Holmen has allowed me to gleam some of his knowledge about AM. He started reviewing some of the animations that Chris Daily and myself were working on. After just a little while it turned from reviewing to teaching. I have enjoyed our time and have been able to get some animations done under his tutelage. Here is one of the first one I completed titled "Fly Trap". flyfinal.mp4

Great character. I love that sway back.

Guys. we just got word we have family coming tomorrow and staying for a couple of days. I am in a dilemma. We just got power on day before yesterday and I have been cleaning up this mess. It was significant storm. They said at first straight line winds but now they are saying that two tornadoes touched down and one was 1 mile north of us. We got debris from trees being thrown. Everyone meet tomorrow and what I think of if it is ok, on Tuesday, Robert we can meet for our animation and review of week one and two C++ and then next next Sunday I will be back to my regular schedule. I will have the next two up for review and will be caught up. Sorry about this, there visit was supposed to have happen before we started C++. They postponed and now here they come. Cindy is running around trying to figure where everyone is going to sleep. Probably have to put some in a hotel. Anyway you three meet and I will work on my stuff when everyone is in bed.

My world is upside down today. I will leave the house in a few minutes and will be gone until Thursday. I am sorry I will miss this week. I was looking forward to this evening even bragging a bit. I will be back in touch later this week.
