Making the Medal (Insect Image Contest)

I suppose that could be a 'tip-o-the-hat' to the first contest that gave out a medal? Or... every future contest could be an "Insect" contest. Problem solved! -
Michelangelo's painting was actually an art school project and the earliest of only four known easel paintings by him. He based it on a previous engraving of the same subject by Martin Shongauer. In terms of the depictions of the creatures, both have strengths. In Shongauer's version the demon with squid-like wings has a head that is much more dog-like than Michelangelo's and more anatomically plausible.

Thanks for dropping in, Ed!

That's my first guess. I'm thinking that some 5-pointers are not pointing the same way as their adjoining patches. BTW... you can post JPGs and PNGs directly to the forum for easier viewing by your readers.

I'm going to need more shape information than the painting gives me so... I've been trying to find some creature that has a head similar to that demon and I'm thinking that, minus the triceratops frills, it's basically a rodent because of the side-mounted eyes on the head rather than front-wise-facing eyes like a cat. My next step was to look at rabbit skulls to see how they are built and... geez, get a load of this ... a rabbit with fangs much like the demon.

Example B is mysterious. The double bias handle will normally only show up when there is a spline on both sides of the selected CP. That's what makes me think there is a hidden spline segment there.
-
I suppose it's possible that in an imported OBJ the property of Peak/Smooth is somehow being written oddly.
-
Try deleting all the mesh and see if it still crashes.

Send me a sample of the model that has the problem and I'll look at it. So far, I haven't noticed a problem when I've been adding CPs and I do that quite a bit.
-
When joining two free CPs, the new CP inherits the Peak/SmOoth property of the one that is being manually moved. If you drag a Peaked CP to a SmOoth CP and attach it the new CP will be Peaked If you drag a SmOoth CP to a Peaked CP and attach it the new CP will be SmOoth.
-
Other possibility... one or both of those spline ends has been set to (P)eak inadvertently.
-
In a quick test I can't duplicate that result unlessssss... ...perhaps there is a hidden spline segment on the end of either of those splines? The curvature of that top spline suggests there is more on the end of it.

But then there is still the giant ant in the monitor... None-the-less, I haven't decided yet whether this should be a universal design or something specific and unique. -

That will definitely get in there. I'm thinking something like ANIMATION:MASTER INSECT IMAGE CONTEST would circle around the edge. e panni, elegantia... from patches, elegance -
Three talented winners of the Insect Image Contest will be awarded a medal for their achievement. That means there needs to be a medal! Currently the plan is to 3D print the prototype, create a mold and cast it in actual metal of some sort. First draft of a design for the Award Medal. Additional suggestions welcome, of course

Glad you're still here, David!

Do your patch-riotic duty and vote in the Insect Image Contest! Right here... (vote now closed) Can't pick just one image you like? No problem, you have to pick three! Note that there is a tiny check box to the right of each image to make your selections with. Anyone can vote, even your grandmother who doesn't like bugs, as long as she has her own computer to vote on. Voting will be open through Monday August 24!

I'll warn that it won't happen fast, there's a lot that would have to be invented from that one view. I've actually seen this painting in person over at the Kimbell Museum in Ft. Worth. It's rather tiny, only about a foot across.
