Do you mean that other rings are not visible? First I'll note that it is typical in rigs for the forearm to be set to rotate on only one axis, because... elbows only rotate on one axis. One way to control this is in the bone's properties under Manipulator Options. "Manipulation" can be set to "Translate only" or "Rotate only" and "Limit Manipulators" lets you make the controller for each axis unavailable.

Gene "Spleengene" Thompson had the best tip.... "the most important thing is to get started."

That deal will get it just about back up to its IPO price and the power players who have held on all these years will finally get their money back, but without interest. Acknowledging that it's just children's entertainment.

mmmmmmmmmmm.... looks good!

Hi Jamie! Welcome to the forum! If you have Skype and want to call in to Live Answer Time to ask questions, definitely do that. Or you can always start a thread here to pose a question. Some smartypants will have an answer!

model control size and position with rand() expression
robcat2075 replied to johnl3d's topic in Tinkering Gnome's Workshop
I agree. That's a cool effect! -
So is that a slap or a palm?
-
Just a little test I did to investigate the mechanics of slapping oneself... ShaggysFacepalm.mov

We have that already don't we? And we have per-light shadow buffers with OpenEXR renders
-
Eager to see it!
-
In v18? Try this.... - set your "ground" or whatever the shadows are falling on to Options>Receive Shadows ON>Shadows Only ON -The objects that cast shadows should remain set to Options>Receive Shadows ON>Shadows Only OFF When you render set Buffers>Light Buffers ON Buffers>Shadow ON If you are rendering to TGA set Buffers>Alpha OFF (If you are rendering to JPG, the Alpha option won't appear) This will render shadows only over the camera background color. You may want to set that to white if you are compositing this shadow pass with something else.

I wonder would this include a virtual copy of a building? Let's say you make a copy of the Empire State building and have a giant hamster climbing it, would that get you in trouble? Maybe so? Or... this is copyright we're talking about... back in 1930 you had to explicitly copyright your work and no one thought about copyrighting buildings back then or if they did, did they renew it so it would still be valid today? The building copyright thing is something I've read about in relation to fairly recent architectural works. I'm going to guess the ESB is safe.

If this ruling wasn't appealed further, it looks like the movie makers won... "Spider-Man" can alter Times Square I think one of the crazier applications of copyright prevents you from photographing a building, as if it were a sculpture that was not in the public domain. That just about make shooting in any modern city nearly impossible without expensive clearances from every property owner.

If he is knowingly passing on the PR BS that may say worse of him than if he is cluelessly passing it on.
-
I rather like the hand-held camera effect. It appears as if the cameraman is surprised and has trouble catching up.
-
from the article: I'll note that that is not a law or anything, that's just some absurd PR BS the clueless reporter swallowed. also from the article: "...this image is hair - with extreme motion blur, rendered in Arnold...." Hmmm... hair... motion blur... maybe we could do that with A:M already?

A vs B (On Inputs and Outputs, Resamplings and Exposures...)
robcat2075 replied to Rodney's topic in Open Forum
My own feeling is that I prefer to do everything in one program environment (Game A) if I can, but most projects require capabilities that can't be found all in one program and I have to combine elements (Game B ). It's easy to make a modification and have it bubble through to the final product if you are in one environment (Game A). In Game B, I find myself avoiding small tweaks because it means retracing the workflow from the beginning to get the small tweak to be in the final product. Just for the record we should note that Pixar does a lot of post adjustment and compositing and editing after the footage comes out of the renderer so they are more Game B than Game A. -
Setting default value of On/Off Pose Slider?
robcat2075 replied to Rodney's topic in Animation:Master
One example of a Pose that you would typically want ON by default is a Pose the contains the constraints that make the rig work. -
Probably not if they are still using it on the Mac. Right now the universal format for animation that you are going to use in a post program or NLE is numbered image sequences, which A:M already does. Quicktime's "Animation" codec gave us the opportunity to render to an uncompressed format and have sound included but we can usually get by with out that. I'm not sure what would be a good format and codec to offer for compressing for the end user, or for compressing just enough to make upload time to Youtube tolerable. MPG usually looks lousy unless you are really careful with the parameters.

Setting default value of On/Off Pose Slider?
robcat2075 replied to Rodney's topic in Animation:Master
Ah-ha! I see the problem. A Pose will NEVER show its result in the model window. A Pose is like an offset from the original state of the model. It is something added to the model. That is how it is stored internally. A Pose is a set of values to be added to the values of the original thing that the Pose is affecting. Suppose you had a CP at 10cm on the X axis and your Pose moved it to 15cm on the X axis. That Pose stores a +5 for that CP, not a 15. If you later changed your model so that that CP was at X=7cm rather than 10cm, the Pose would put the CP at 12cm when it was ON. (7 + 5 = 12) If you want a model with that Posed Shape as the new default mesh you could put the model in a Chor, turn on the Pose, and then export the model from the Chor. -
Setting default value of On/Off Pose Slider?
robcat2075 replied to Rodney's topic in Animation:Master
I'm still confused about what you want if it is not to have the default state of an ON/OFF Pose saved in a model. I've not seen a case where my solution doesn't work to save and set the default state of a Pose. How about this... bring your case to Live Answer Time on Saturday and we will figure it out. -
Yes. I wish they'd just rip out all the internet-accessing stuff and keep the functionality of the local-file player.

Reminder: Save often and save incrementally
robcat2075 replied to Rodney's topic in Animation:Master
I also like to append a brief description of the most recent change after the number so if my experiments go bad I can find the version before I did "fewer thumb splines" or something like that. -
Setting default value of On/Off Pose Slider?
robcat2075 replied to Rodney's topic in Animation:Master
I guess i"m confused about the exact goal. I'll try to re-read this from the top tomorrow. -
On the security threat... from the original report: So as long as I'm not using Quicktime in a web pursuit I'll be OK. Using the Quicktime player to process my own footage would not be a problem. Running After Effects which uses Quicktime but doesn't access the web with it would not be a problem. But... how do cautious people who have uninstalled Quicktime watch work I've done, like my screencam tuts? Are there other players that can view them if they don't' have QuickTime installed?
