DON'TS!
-Do Not be rude or disrespectful or mean to other forum members in any way. Personal attacks will be removed.
-Do Not post bug/crash reports to the list (send bug/crash reports to http://www.hash.com/reports.
-Do Not complain about forum content. Complaints or suggestions can be sent directly to hash@hash.com

-No posting of private email to the forum unless permission of the author is granted. (Private correspondence should remain private)
-No very general questions like: "how do I make a good 3D model" make your questions as complete and concise as possible.
If you have questions as to whether it's appropriate, send it to: support@hash.com, We'll be happy to let you know whether it is, or is not appropriate.
User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.
Thanks for making the A:M Forum a great community.

hello, i have the following problem: how to change from a reusable action to keyframeanimation without changing the reusable action? e. g. i use the character thom and i drag and drop in the chor "resolute walk" on him. The walk cycle ends at frame 30. then i go to frame 40 and i want him moving his arm. so i change the bicepbone to the place i want to have it. but when i now play the animation the change of the bicepbone affects also the reusable action. i tried also to turn off "hold last key frame" - no results. what do i have to do to be able to use reusable actions together with keyframeanimations without interfeering each other? what i want is a smooth chang…

[1] How much influence does the dpi of a texture have on the speed of a render? On the one hand, a common-sense answer would be 'a lot', but often in these matters, the intuitive answer is not how it really is. I'm staggering along with a mere half-Gig of RAM. More is in the works, but I need some 300dpi textures for walls where a camera is going to be close. [2] Sometimes, in complicated areas where there are a lot of CP's [or I'm not zoomed in close enough] I move 95% of an object and the rest stays. I do a CRTL_Z, and all is well, but when I look at the model in wireframe, the CP's that didn't move are bright blue instead of red. They'll turn green when s…

Hello, I have a character face that should be flat, but the surface is actually has "ripples" and little intentations. I'd like to align the control vertices to one plane, to help flatten this out. In Maya, I can simply select the points, turn on the grid and then move the points, which aligns them on my chosen axis. Is there a way to do similar in A:M? Thanks, Tim

Hi Folks, I have a few questions, but first, a little background... My partner and I are going to work together on a project. We've looked around at various 3D Animation software, and have decided to go with Animation Master. Now, the thing is this...my partner has a MAC and I have a PC. So, I have a couple of questions.... 1. First and most important, will we be able to "merge" our footage (his stuff being on a MAC and mine on a PC), or am I going to have to get a MAC also in order for us to be able to join together what we do seperately on different platforms? 2. Come to think of it, how do you bring together stuff done on sepera…

Can someone please tell me some good surface properties to create ice. I have been experimenting on my own, but I can't get it to look right. I was trying to adapt the ice settings in the current issue of 3D World magazine from Daz Studio to A:M, but I got confused because some of the D|S settings are named differently than the A:M settings. I decided it might be best to just ask people who specialize in A:M what settings they use. So I am asking... What settings do you use? Any help would be gratley appreciated. Thanks!

Hi everyone, I need to do an easy animation in A:M (I'm using v12) using a 3ds model of a car that has been given to me. The model has been modelled with not too much polygons (in max I guess) and A:M can import it by using the wizard for importing 3ds models. My problem is that the result after importing the model is not the desired because some "ugly things" appear all over the mesh of the model as if the bias of every spline had been changed. Is there any other way of importing 3ds models without the appearing of those extrange artifacts? or, are there any tricks for avoiding this problems? I don't need to animate the model itself but using it as a static ob…

How do you zoom out? For example, the FW-190 Fighter tutorial says to: "Then zoom the Window out and size the rotoscope so that the wingspan is 34 feet in length." When I start a new model, the center on the screen is 0'. I cannot figure out how to zoom out. Now which icon represents embarassed? Thanks

Can anyone direct me to a tutorial that shows much of the functionality within the same tutorial? I have gone through many of the online tutorials and have a lot of AM videos and books (that I bought off the forum). The problem is, they only take you through certain sections of things. No one really guides you from start o finish and all the steps in between. I am still struggling to get AM into a workable situation for me. It doesn't have to be complicated...say maybe a football. If there was a tutorial from start to finish of a football with the texture, material, decals (I think that this the right terminology to put like an NFL logo on it), it would be so he…

Wow. I am amazed at how many resources are available for this program. I am ashamed that I am posting because I am sure the answers are right in front of me. However, I have taken time to work through the online video tutorials, I have dipped into the manual, and have searched the help menu and this forum, and can't turn up what I am looking for. Perhaps I am searching with the wrong terms. At any rate, here is what I am trying to accomplish. I need to animate a model to walk along a mountain ridge. I have been able to create a path and have the model follow that path pretty well. However during the models "trek" I need it to stop for a short time to look as though i…

Hello all, I'm fairly new to AM and am trying to work through the examples from Animation Master A Complete Guide (2006 edition). In chapter six starting around page 250/251 it starts taking about character rigging and goes through an example referencing the Captain character. Looking on the CD I have found several model files which could be of the captain, but none of them seem to load, I get an error that reads: [/i]Invalid Model File D:/pathToModel/Captain_v19.mdl So I am obviously having trouble with the example since I can't put bones in a model I can't load. Hs anyone else had this problem? Was using AM v 12.0n+ on Windows XP. Tia, -- kammer

Hello again, Working through the examples from Animation Master: A Complete Guide (2006 edition) on page 253 it talks about duplicating a bone structure (pelvis-thigh-calf-ankle-toe) by ALT-dragging the pelvis (bone presumably) and dropping it ontp the pelvis (again, bone presumably). Each bone is a child of the bone beofre it in the heirarchy, but ALT-dragging the pelvis seems to do nothing other than move it around. Am I missing something or is the text incorrect? How do I duplicate the entire bone heirarchy without having to recreate it? TIA, -- kammer

My computer is a P4 2.6 GHz with 512 MByte RAM, ATI 9000 Pro video card with 128 MByte RAM, Windows 2000 Pro with all the latest service packs and patches. All drivers are up to date. I am working on a WIP project using Schlitzy. What I am finding is that A:M seems to be getting slower and slower as more objects are added to the project. I am now at the point where I would like to start animating Schlitzy in a chor. The response time between mouse click and something happening on the screen is better than a second. I have tried creating a new project with only Schlitzy and the main objects of the scene, but response time is still pretty slow. Does anyone ha…

Okay, I noticed that when you go to render the animation, you can choose from different resolutions... I wanted a kind of 'list' I guess from worst (as in, lowest quality) to best (as in, highest quality) resolutions. If there is one already here, could someone please give me a link? If it's not already here, could someone write it down? I'd appreciate it.

I'm curious, what file types is A:M capable of importing and exporting? OBJ, 3DS, DXF. etc? I've been modelling and texturing in Hexagon 2 and was wondering if I could import my models with their textures from there to be animated in A:M. I've looked in the online A:M reference, but could find no answer. Thanks.
