Shown are three copies of the head of the Jungle Queen. Each head uses single attribute "skin" materials. The leftmost head material has subsurface scattering turned OFF while it's turned ON in the rightmost head. The centre head has subsurf. scat. turned OFF on it's right side while it's turned ON on it's left side. These three models are arranged in a chor that uses a single "sun" style light source and the global color (256, 256, 256) for ambient occlusion. With subsurf. scat. turned off in the camera, all three heads are screen rendered as expected with just sun, just ambient or both illuminating it. Hello. Me again. Was looking through the wiki area for the Tinman movie and was a bit bummed out to find that many of the links which seem like they should link to background info about them, instead just drop me off in the forums. Is this information stored elsewhere, or has it been lost or orphaned over time? Rob- I came across a puzzle that you might help with. I am trying to "grow" a molecule, segment by segment, almost like a time lapse thing, but I can't figure out how to control the slow growth of each segment using pose sliders. Maybe there is a smarter way...see you at noon. Tom Molecule.mdl

Have had a couple of hitches in the past few weeks with actions in V17g under OSX, but had thought they were resulting from exporting a sequence from a chor, as an action. Trying to setup an action now for some prancing sacks and, although the keys will set in the PWS, and the scroll tool will move through them. The play option won't work and the button that lets you move along the timeline is completely absent. Is this a known problem ? regards simon V17g OSX

Does anyone already have or can they point me to an already-done architectural fly-through done with A:M? It should look great, of course, but I'm looking for something that in just a few seconds can say "architectural fly-thorough" I'm working on the new-user tut for "animation" and want to touch on path animation and want a shot that can cover the time it takes to say "...path animation also works well for moving a camera in and around a set... "

I notice that when I choose EXR file to save a frame, there is no "shadow buffer" to select. Didn't EXR have this option in the past? It's been a while since I rendered this format, so I may be missing a step somewhere.

I have a figure pushing a large heavy sphere. Keyed the basic poses and timing and ready to start refining it. A problem at the moment is that the hands penetrate the mesh of the sphere when the pushing position changes. Is there a way to prevent this, other than keying it every other frame to prevent it. Is there a constraint that can be used or, might editing the curves do it ? Any help gratefully received. regards simon

Hello Hashers- I had an idea of leaves being emitted as sprites and I wanted those leaves to swirl in a curlicue past the camera. I created a curlicue model as a guide for the sprites to follow and made it 80% transparent so I could see if it was working, and if it did work, I would make the guide 100% transparent for the final render. I made the sprites react to collisions and thought I set everything properly. I even had an animated force fanning the sprites inside the tunnel. The force moved one leaf but the others stayed behind. Unfortunately all the leaves glommed up at the beginning of the "wind tunnel guide" as you can see from the video. I won…

I notice that when working on SmartSkins, in the PWS you can on a CP or Spline number and get the option to "Select Spline #" or "Select CP #". However nothing appears happen when choosing either. What should happen? However it would be immensely useful it those options did in fact highlight their counterparts in the actual SmartSkin window. This would make altering/tweaking just a few Cps in a SmartSkin much easier to do later on if one was not happy the first time round. Is this in fact what is supposed to happen? If so then I think it's broke

Simple question. Is the Community Tab in A:M still used? I've created a login for it, but it never works. Says I login doesn't exist, even though I just created it. So, I was wondering if it's still in use? Is that still supported? And is it separate from the forum community? And on that note, is there a Discord community, or anything like that?

Reference: [bug]6102[/bug] I'm wanting to explore a few of the reports filed away in A:M Reports in order to better understand what the user was/is looking for and so that in v18 they will be more likely to see what they are looking for. Obviously my exploration will stop short of any coding or programming... but in the exploration who knows what might be found! Is there a way of skipping decals when importing props? Some models seem to take forever to import and AM seems to lag along. If I am going to retopo the model then I don't think waiting for this feature is worth it.

Question for Rob: While improving the lighting today [at Live Answer Time] for Johns picture, we adjusted a bunch of global ambiance parameters. It seems that the Global Ambiance parameters can be adjusted from various places-, Camera or Choreography or Rendering all have inputs. What is the correct sequence of adjusting the Global Ambiance settings? Which Setting is the most important ....and then do you work your way "down the tree" to make further adjustments? Hello, Just hours before my flight to Vegas I finally got Animation Master Chat up and running in it's new home! The machine is a new install and has some updating to do but I it should not restart till 3am(at this point I'm not sure I trust that though). If it does restart it will be fast so do not worry. You guys may even get to see my drunken miss spellings if I log in to make sure it's up while in Vegas. You may ask yourself can my drunken miss spellings really be any worse then my normal miss spellings. And the answer is YES haha! While rummaging through an old miscellaneous folder I found a plug-in from 2005 that, if I remember correctly, simultaneously changes the crossing bias at all cp's around a circular spline. It could be a nice time saver. I tried dropping it into my HXT folder but it didn't show up as a plug-in or wizard. Is there some way to "re-compile" it for v19p? Bottleneck.hxt

Hi, I want to know more about the pros and cons of embedding resources in a project (and therefore embedding in the chor). For myself, I have since my own 'dawn of time' with A:M embedded everything, always. Why? Dependability and minimizing loss is always my first priority. And, probably around 10 years ago I started embedding everything for that reason alone--I seemed to have less problems doing it this way. Part of this was that separating the current ongoing work from the resources I had on disk isolated and protected those resources. I ran into situations where A:M crashed, my PC crashed, there was a power outage, I screwed things up and could not undo…

So there is something wrong with our camera. I ordered a new one today. But the one we took only took pictures right when the conditions were prefect(no motion, good light, more camera words). But the next show should be better. I've very lax in loading the latest versions and have been using 19.0e since it came out. I just installed 19.0j and upon starting AM got the error message: "Unable to load plugin" (followed by a sequential list of all the .atx and .trb files I bought from EnhanceAM) "The specified procedure could not be found". I made sure this version was looking in the correct folder. I loaded v19.0i and got the same result. I don't have ver.g or ver.h but ver.f had no problem loading them. Do I need to supply a sample EAM .atx and .trb file to determine what broke?

I'm building a railroad indicator lamp, essentially a red/green traffic light. I wanted to simulate the look of the optics of these lights which were designed by mounting an incandescent lamp at the focal length of a coloured glass fresnel lens (like in a lighthouse) such that its light is only visible when viewed almost on-axis as one would from a long distance. I think I've come up with a believable result using a hierarchical klieg light mounted inside the enclosure. It's aimed to shine inside the case and illuminate a small internal disc, standing-in for the lamp filament, sitting near the focal length of the lens. When I first upgraded to V17 I happened to mention to the very nice sales guy that I was getting a new notebook in a week so I was going to wait until it came in. He said 'no, go ahead, put on your current notebook and when the new one comes in we'll just switch it to that'. I KNEW I SHOULD HAVE WAITED. This will not effect any thing with Hash, Inc. really but we have a new NAS for our back up systems. We are now moving the data to there(form older machines with less stable raids). Right now I am working quite a lot with snap to surface, because i am recreating one of my bigger polygon modells. I found some minor problems : Snap also reacts to hidden geometry. That should not happen. Snap has a tendency to snap to geometry on the other side of the model. The bluprint modell as well as to the spline geometry. In case of the blueprint it should be not so hard to fix that by checking the orientation of the surrounding normals. In case of the spline geometry i dont know ... Maybe it is posssible to look in these issues (at least its issues to me). Regards Heiner

I appreciate that it is possible to control a light in a chor using the properties in the PWS and thats the way I've done it before. I wondered if it was possible to control those same properties, such as intensity, cone angle, fall of and so on, using pose sliders ? I tried in the actions section but it was not possible to select the lights, or the camera to try to make the poses. Its not a problem, I just thought it might animating them easier in the chor? regards simon

OK, I have a path (a spline with 3 CP's) I have constrained my Camera to the path (Path Constraint) and I have also contrained the camera to aim at a null. Camera jumps to the path and travels along it BUT only travels 1/2 between the first and second CP (100% enforcement at chor end) BUT it also behaves like it is pointing at the null as if it has travelled the full length of the path. Obviously I am missing something here... Partially solved. Chor length was set too long. Edit - Fixed by deleting the path and camera constraints then doing it again.... Not sure what went wrong but it's working now.... Cheers

I think I've found an anomaly in the way cookie cut maps with alpha channels (which is the only way I use them) render specular highlights. My test map is shown below, an out of focus ellipse. I applied this as a color decal to a blue, four patch plane as a TGA file with an alpha map based on luminance so it should appear as a fuzzy white oval. The blue plane had a white specular color with size and intensity equal to 33%. I would like to use the Vector Interpolation driver on bones in an action file. I used to be able to select it in the option menu and set it for the project be default, but now everything is defaulting to quaternion. Even an older project is defaulting to quat. I change it in the options to vector and it just keeps reverting to quaternion. I don't want the rotate.w channel for this project, just xyz absolute values. How do I fix this? Thanks all, Charles

I have a laptop with an Optimus chipset, that can switch back and forth between an integrated GPU and a Quadro 2000. I have noticed that there are some problems when scrubbing through a timeline, it seems like it is dropping frames (Robcat knows what I'm talking about). Is this a known issue with integrated graphics? Or maybe it is something with the way optimus switches between the integrated GPU and the discrete GPU. I hate to completely disable the integrated GPU, it will kill my battery life. Is anyone else out there experiencing problems with integrated GPUs on laptops?

Hi, This is very strange! On my notebook (btw, I don't have this problem on my desktop) if for example I hit 't' for turn, the icon comes 'on', the mouse cursor changes correctly but turn doesn't work. If I select the turn icon, it works. Same with other tools. Has anyone else encountered this? Any ideas on how I might fix this or what I might try or how I might trouble shoot this? Thanks! Rusty

Hello I am very new to this my mom was Kat. I saw the messages left on her legacy page thank you for that. I have all her computers and work I would love to honor her work and some how finish it for her. Needless to say I have very little knowledge about how her very system work and have been nervous about losing any of her info. Hey all. I have a design that needs to be printed onto paper. It is a pop up book. But I have never actually printed a template out from A:M. I have an idea as to how to approach it. But I didn't want to waste any time on a method that doesn't get the desired results. Main thing is that I need to print the same physical dimensions as exists on the model template. So if something on the model is say.....3.5 inches on the model, it needs to be 3.5 inches on the physical paper print out. Has anyone tackled a template printout from A:M??

Hi, For reasons I can't figure out after days of struggling, a project created and originally rendered in V14g looks way different when rendered in the latest AM version and I just need to change a few seconds of the scene and insert it but it must look the same as the existing video. I should have had a copy of V14c but I must have lost it when I lost a disk a year ago. I need to find a copy of AM V14g to install to render this scene.
