Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted October 30, 2009 Hash Fellow Posted October 30, 2009 I did this little test of unicycle motion just for fun. I've marked it up with some notes. attachment=46990:unicycleMotionH264.mov attachment=46991:UniCycle.prj Although I mention it in the notes, I'll say it again... the unicycle's "stop" is the least satisfying in appearance because it has been over simplified. A real unicycle stop is a precarious balancing act. Edit: couldn't let that lousy stop be. I added some overshoot to it to make it look better. Revised files. UniCycle2_with_reversestop.prj unicycleMotion2NotesH264.mov Edit 2: Playing with this notion some more, here it is with "cartoon physics". This is all bone squetch. Distortion box squetch would be better, especially on the wheel, but that's a battle for another day. unicycleMotion7H264.mov Unicycle7_cartoonier.zip Quote
johnl3d Posted October 30, 2009 Posted October 30, 2009 Are you speaking from experience ? my brother in law was pretty good riding one made it look almost effortless . thanks for the prj Quote
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted October 30, 2009 Author Hash Fellow Posted October 30, 2009 Thanks! Revised version with better stop posted above. Quote
NancyGormezano Posted October 30, 2009 Posted October 30, 2009 very nice !... and inquiring minds - John & I - still wanta know - Are you now, or have you ever been a member of the unicyclist party? Quote
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted October 30, 2009 Author Hash Fellow Posted October 30, 2009 Are you now, or have you ever been a member of the unicyclist party? No, I've never been on a unicycle. So this is all "thought experiment" animation. Not necessarily the safe way to do it. Quote

Paul Forwood Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 Excellent! Now is that wheel really spinning or did you use a projection map? Quote
TheSpleen Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 I grew up riding a unicycle. They are great for beaches or for festivals where there's crowds and lots of walking. everyone lets you go by and loves watching. They are designed though to slam you face first into the road surface. The stop though the wheel should go a bit further in front of the rider then come back quickly under him to regain balance. like a fast reverse after the stop to put the wheel back under the rider. largento Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 Nicely done! The sound effects work perfectly! Quote
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted November 3, 2009 Author Hash Fellow Posted November 3, 2009 Here's a bit of stereoscopic silliness. This is in cross-eye format. Unicycle10dStereoH.mov The stop though the wheel should go a bit further in front of the rider then come back quickly under him to regain balance. like a fast reverse after the stop to put the wheel back under the rider. That's good feedback. I'll see if I can do a take that incorporates that. Now is that wheel really spinning or did you use a projection map? It's a genuine spinnin' wheel, that's gotta go 'round.
