DON'TS!

-Do Not complain about forum content. Complaints or suggestions can be sent directly to hash@hash.com

-No posting of private email to the forum unless permission of the author is granted. (Private correspondence should remain private)

If you have questions as to whether it's appropriate, send it to: support@hash.com, We'll be happy to let you know whether it is, or is not appropriate.
User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.
Thanks for making the A:M Forum a great community.

I am working on an animation for the Mini-Movie Contest. I have a single choreography. It's length was about 01:18:00 (almost 80 seconds) for the longest time. Then I added another 15 or so seconds, so it's length is 01:34:00 (94 seconds). Now when I go to render the choreography, I enter 01:34:00 for the end of the range, then click render. Immediately I notice that the start and end frames add up to 2400. Divide by 30 for frames/second, and I get only 80 seconds. I am unable to figure out how to render the last 14 seconds into the movie. I've switched it between QuickTime and AVI, with no improvement. Is this something I'm doing wrong, or something that…

Hello, I downloaded the free models pack offered on this site. While most of the model/projects opened fine a lot of them didn't (mostly characters or other models with 'map' files) I just get a windows error and the program shuts down. I have AM 2002. Any reason why this is happening?

I just completed the "Giraffe" chapter of the book, accidentally got rid of the project (Model) window -- and now I can't find it! Yes, this project was saved -- I've restarted -- I even went back to 'reset controls', but to no luck. I can open up any other project and I get its corresponding window (in this case, the "Model" window), but just not the one I spend the last five hours working on. Another interesting thing...when I choose to open another project A:M asks if I want to save my job, "Giraffe" -- so I know it's there, just no window. So what stupid, silly thing am I not doing? I swear I've pushed every button more than once now trying to get …

Yes, i am having trouble applying decals the decals go on fine, and the model looks relatively great (considering my skill level) but when i try to open the model file again, the decals do not seem to be properly applied, its like there out of place or something i think it has something to do with layering different decals ontop of each other or something my problem basically is, the decals just dont seem to want to stay the same

OK I will include screenshots and my project file. Basically this is what happens I wanted to test a simple animation to practice my skills with and it uses all the default stuff that comes wit A:M and what I was trying to do was have the knight model walk along a path using the walk(exausted) action and then at the end of the path yawn using the yawn action at the end of the path but it keeps puting the yawn ino the cnstrain to path and I dont know why. Meaning the last part o him moving along the path he is yawning... here is the screenshots and project file so you can understand more. Just open the project file and play the animation then seek all the wa…

I am really making headway with this program. After many months of frustration, I am finally making this program work for me. I still have a couple issues with my animations. I know this must be such an easy fix, and is something that is very basic, but I am having alot of troube with it. I want a 5 second walk cycle. I can only get my actor to walk for 1 second. Isn't there a way to make the cycle loop? I can get other models to do it, but for some reason this one does not. I have checked the manual and can't seem to find an answer for the problem. Is there a certain place on the timeline in which I drop the walk cycle? Is there a setting I need to change? Proble…

I was reading some tutorials about normal mapping, and all I could find is that normal maps were a quicker approximation of bump maps for use in realtime (game) rendering. So, in image/animation projects like those created in A:M, what is the difference between the two? Why use one over the other, and if one is outstandingly preferable, why have both?

I had a student ask me how to move the camera around in the choreography window and after showing him a truly awful way of doing it I realized I had no clue. =) Is there an equivalent to turning and moving like the modelling view that can be used to manipulate the camera views in choreography? Starting with the basic three light setup, I began adding lights to my chor. At first, the additional lights did what they were supposed to do, but after about five or six additional lights, my keylight seemed to turn off with the other lights doing all the work. Turning off the last added light, turned the keylight back on. I figured the last light was somehow defective, so I deleted it and created a new one. The same thing happened, the keylight, although the chor said it was on, was actually not doing anything to light the scene. Another test confirmed this. Instead of deleting the last added light, I just turned it off in the chor and the keylight immediate…

I had originally built a Star Wars AT-AT in Anim8or and would like to bring it into Animation Master. I have tried exporting it to a .3ds model and them importing it, but it did not translate very well. The other option I have is to re-create it in A:M. Since the majority of the AT-AT is made up of straight lines, is it possible to have A:M default to Peak instead of Smooth when drawing the splines? Here are some pictures of the model created in Anim8or. [attachmentid=20224] [attachmentid=20223] Thanks in advance... Al

I'm working on a scene right now and am trying to get a dark fog sort of thing at the bottom of the scene, however when I use the mist volumentric I seem to only be able to make fog thats bright... There is no light hitting the fog, but it renders as a bright splotch. I put the brightness down in the mist settings and then the fog just disappears. Maybe I'm missing something, but I can't get a dark fog.... it either is bright or isn't there at all. Any help would be great, thanks, --Ross

hello all. hope everyone is doing well. i was wondering while im learning how to model, does someone who knows how to model, also have to also be good at animating? or vice-versa? like, say if youre the type of person who is "so-so" at modeling, but if someone gave you a pre-built rigged model, you know you could animate the heck out of it? or if you know you suck at or dont have the patience to animate, but would love to be down with a project just to build and model a character? is this acceptible that although a person is assigned a job doing either/or, knowing the other is not a requirement, i.e., and artist that gets paid to model doesnt need to know how to anim…

Hello.. This isn't a complaint about anything, but rather a "how do you deal with this" sort of thing. I'm working through the AoAM book and am still on the "It's a Pitch" project. It's taking me some time thanks to rl issues and, most pertinently, because I'm finding myself having trouble working on it. Basically, I'm finding it very difficult to work with the armature. It seems that I can't get the right angle to move/rotate things and it's causing me alot of headaches. For example, I'm working in left-side view and everything looks fine.. until I look at it head on or from any other angle, then I realize that everything is out-of-whack looking. Then it's…

I can load SCHLITZY, but when I try to load Sir Nigel or any of the other Realistic Actors models, I get the error. I can rotate him to supine and sure enough just the top half of him shows but only in shaded mode. I can see the whole wire figure. Renders above the y axis only. Anyways...I am running the newest version which is version 13 point something, Well what my question is, Is how would I go about making a mirro or reflective surfae? Like say a typical mirror in a room or a mirrored reflection off of a car or sunglasses? Do I have to manually "Paste the mirrored image" over the surface? Oris there a way to get the computer to "know" that it is a mirrored surface that reflects? That way it will be better and more accurate with movements than if I did it manually. Because I really waana use this effect and make a char…

Hello - I've created a full model which I'm now trying to split in half at the center spline so that I can copy/flip/attach to rig properly. After deleting the left half, centering the middle spline at 0 along the x axis, at the copy/flip/attach stage a strange occurance happens. The model attaches at the feet. The foot is placed along the 0 y axis, but if I move the model down below the y axis, some of the control points end up at the bottom of the model (see attached jpeg). I've trid to backtrack my work to find the control points that are causing the problem, but when I try to delete them to replace them, they won't delete. Anyone know what's happening here? …

Hi all, I am embarking on an animation project and just decided to purchase AM but I am a bit hesitant that I will be able to pull this off since I am not a professional. My charachters are simple, a smiley face and a chalkboard with a straight forward story. I worry that I won't be able complete my character rigging and will be dead in the water. How hard is this and do people offer rigging services? I use a Mac and have 10.4.7 (Tiger) and I noticed the additional available software that helps you rig doesn't work with 10.4.
