-No posting of private email to the forum unless permission of the author is granted. (Private correspondence should remain private)

If you have questions as to whether it's appropriate, send it to: support@hash.com, We'll be happy to let you know whether it is, or is not appropriate.
User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.
Thanks for making the A:M Forum a great community.

Hi, I'm trying to get the hang of modeling on the latest A:M from the subscription and I ran into an odd problem....I used the lathe to make a circle (10 CP's) but I can only select half of it. I'm trying to make a tube so I need to extrude this circle and all CPs have to be selected at once. Any ideas why I can't bound group the whole circle at once? Thanks for looking. -PM

Hi all, I am trying my own version of the bouncing ball. I watched Cristin McKee's videos (Anzovin Studios) and I understand the part about being able to rotate with one bone (center bone) and doing squash and stretch with another bone (at base of model), and swtiching between both during the creation of the animation. The problem I am having is when I switch to the bottom bone it won't sqaush and stretch at all. Am I doing something wrong or could this be a bug? Thanks Chris

Hello, im very new to animation master, but unfortunately not new to 3D modelling, and I now what lacks on animation master :/ I have finished most parts of my 3d Tyrannosaurus rex BUT, I can't find any option that can remove triangles or a smooth shading option*. So my first question would be: Is there any model correcting button? Or any smooth shading button? and.....my second is: How can you mount an UV map to a model instead of drag and droping decals? Thanks a lot 8imon * smooth shading is shading the model from flat triangles shading to smoother.

Hi All Since the main reason for my getting A M was more as a suport tool for my 2D Illustration and Cartooning then for the animation I jumped right into the modeling tutorials perhaps biting off a bit more than I could chew. Anyway wanting to start right away to create 3d versions of my own characters I started trying to do the faces using my own design instead of a photo Anyway It went easier then I expected I do a bit of real sculpting so the transition from papermache and clay to a view screen wasn't too dificult, other than an inability to smooth out some of the creases and don't get me started on the nostrels. Anyway this is what I've gotten so …

Hi - I am working on a project for a client and they need it in a high resolution and a little worried about rendering time to meet the deadline - and they have access to be able to log-in I guess to another computer for rendering. Have never heard of it, but they need to know if AM supports "grid/parallel computing" - has anyone ever heard of this or know. Thanks for the help on my other 4 posts today - you guys are great. Thanks, Eric

So I just broke down and bought a subscription and I'm sooooo relieved to see how stable it is and that it's almost the same as A:M. However, when I open my old models in the new version they are different...and not for the better. It looks like there's spline issues that cause surfacing problems. Is there a simple answer as to why would this happen? Sorry if this uestion has been asked over and over. Also, is there a way to load pictures onto this site just so people can look at them at help me out with things like this? Thanks for looking. -PM

What I do is make the basic shape of the model so it looks 2D and than copy and past it and put the two next to each other and connect them. Is this a bad way to model.

Hello - I created a model and the rigged him, and then did all the poses - then started the chor. I realized I needed another pose, so I went back and created it, but it will not work in the current chor. I pulled it into a second chor to test it and it worked fine. Any ideas? Thanks

I've been doing this for awhile now and still not quite understanding this. Example: you start a character walking in a chor in skeletal mode - walk him forward 10 steps - it leaves the model bone where you started. It seems the only way to turn the character is to be in choreograph mode. But then when you use that to turn the character it turn him from the original position and moves him way away from where he was at - having to then go frame by frame and replace him. What am I doing wrong?? Hopefully I am making sense what I am saying. I may have posted this a year ago or so, but I couldn't find it. Thanks for any help.

I have a stickfigure walking. The walk cycle is 20 frames and I want it to be repeated. I put the model in a .chor and then dragged the action onto it. Now the figure will ony do one cycle (no matter how many times I tell it to repeat) and does the cycle super super slow. Any suggestions?

Hi all Perhaps this is just another example of why I should stick with the baby steps instead of jumping into the deep end head first but my first attempt at using decals has been frustrating to say the least. For a little bit of background I was playing around with creating scenes from a space opera i've been dabbling with and I was playing with from space shots of the principle setting. For this I assumed that the best approach for creating this planet would be to make a large decal made from one of my maps of the setting (attachment 1) on top of of a 32patch sphere unfortunately the end result of this leads us to attachment 2. I've played with the size of t…

I am trying to get a particle emitter to work on a simple rectangle model... no luck. I think that I might have reset something somewhere and dont know how to fix it. It was working at one point until I looked at some unreasonably complicated sprites tutorial somewhere that called for me to make some esoteric system settings... now I can't get it back. Any suggestions?

Hi all, I want to show all my controls for my character on the dopesheet (keyframe sheet) because I need to key them all for each pose. So I am using the 'tack' function but everytime I go to another control, the others disappear on the dopesheet. How can I prevent this from happening? Also, other than moving (jiggling) the other bones that are not being moved, is there a way to set them automatically when you set one of the other controllers? Thanks

I was wondering if it's possible to take several photos and import them into A:M to make a stop motion animation. Has anyone tried this?? I tried to apply them as a decal to a flat model but it didn't work because the decal option isn't available in a choreography window. Any suggestions?

Dear Animation Masters: I'm new to A:M and this forum and I'm getting the modeling and such down but the technical stuff...not so much. I hate to say it but I have that love/ hate relationship with A:M. I love the creative side but hate the technical/ computer side. I know several of you feel my pain. Anyway, I'm interested in making a very simple memory game using A:M and I was wondering if there's a plug in that allows a user to interact with the animation...meaning I model the objects, set up the animation and choreography, and during the animation you can click on the objects with a mouse to make them do certain things (flip over, stop, change colors, etc). Has a…

Hi everyone, I'm currently running Animation:Master on a Mac G5 with 3 GB of Ram. OS version: 10.4.11. The computer's about 5 years old. I can still edit with Final Cut Pro just fine, but A:M doesn't seem to like it very much. A:M will crash once in a while, rendering is a crapshoot, and some tutorials like putting fur on Chewbacca was difficult for the computer to handle. I'm anxious to learn and use A:M for all sorts of projects, so I figure I should get a new computer. The PC I currently have is pushing 10 years old, so I was going to buy a new PC, but alot's changed in 10 years!! Can anyone recommend a good PC to buy? I was hoping to get one unde…

I am aware that you can constrain a character or an object to a path and render that animated action over time. For example, create a walk cycle for a character and have him walk along a spline/path placed on the ground. The question is: Is there a way to have a cross section of a model follow a path in the choreography window and sort of build itself over time. Think of a model that magically grows and grows unto completion before ones eyes. An example of this might be a single spline/path that swirls around to look like a written version of the fluid Coca Cola logo. Could you have a cross section of a model follow that sweeping path and animate over time so th…

The Sizes of Defaults Cornell Box 55x55x55 cm. If I enlarge sizes to 200x200x200 cm (and more), then in what progression should I increase quantity and parameters of light sources? Is there any definite pattern in such calculations? Is there any formula for such calculation? May be it’ll be optimal to reduce pro rata models themselves, which are settled in Cornell Box, rather than enlarge Cornell Box? And one more question. What function does the detail "luminaire" execute in Cornell-Demo-Defaults project? Thanks to everybody. Excuse me my imperfect English.

Hello im new to A:M. Theres a couple of things i've already tried out in A:M, I have like discovered things myself by experimenting and so on... How can I correct this? or is there any tutorial that can show how you can add 3d models into avi clips etc. - Is it po…

Oi !!! I just purchased AM and am having problems when I try to run it. It comes up with the following error message: This action cannot be completed because the other program is busy. Press 'Switch to' to activate the busy program and correct the problem. When I select 'Switch to', it opens the windows menu in the bottom corner, which does not help. I installed AM on 3 other computers that belongsto friends and only one of these computers had the same problem. My computer has the following specs: GeForce 8800GT 512mb, 4gig RAM, 500gig HDD, AM2 Dual Core 4.2Ghz. Help!!! I need to get it running for exams.

Can anyone help me to get the turbulence working on volumetric effects in v14.0c? If I drop a default dust volumetric into the choreography I just get a misty white sphere with no turbulence. If I do the same in version v13t then I get turbulence within the volumetric sphere. Hi, I got A:M 2002 back in...well, 2002 and I haven't used it much and kind of forgot about it. I have recently been re-inspired to learn it and I have some questions regarding the latest version and the bajillion updates inbetween. Considering how I never really made anything to speak of on A:M 2002, I'm kind of reluctant to buy the latest version without conquering the old one. So here's the questions: 1) Will the models I make in 2002 be able to transfer over to the latest version? 2) If I get the latest version will I have to relearn everything or is it the same as 2002 but with more features? 3) I've always had a problem with A:M 2002 shutting down on …
