-Discuss what you are working on and let everyone know about magazine reviews and articles that relate to your projects.
DON'TS!
-Do Not be rude or disrespectful or mean to other forum members in any way. Personal attacks will be removed.
-Do Not post bug/crash reports to the list (send bug/crash reports to http://www.hash.com/reports.
-Do Not complain about forum content. Complaints or suggestions can be sent directly to hash@hash.com
-Do Not reprimand other forum members for violating forum rules, that's the moderators job, which (unless you are a moderator) you are not.
-No complaining or whining on the forum or distribution of misinformation.

-No posting of private email to the forum unless permission of the author is granted. (Private correspondence should remain private)

If you have questions as to whether it's appropriate, send it to: support@hash.com, We'll be happy to let you know whether it is, or is not appropriate.
User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.
Thanks for making the A:M Forum a great community.

I have had this really odd error. Basically, I right click, <new>, <rotoscope> and then select an image. AM: Then gives me a white/blank image of the correct pixel dimensions. In the project workspace it lists the correct image, and if I double click on the image it opens up a new window in which the image is correctly displayed. These images are all comming straight off the CD and they worked prior to me attempting Exercise 10. (FW-190 Fighter) Midway through I had to save and quit. After that I have never been able to get the Rotoscopes to display. Any Suggestions on how to fix this?

Hello, I'm new to AM. So far I like it a lot. I have a question: I've seen several animations that show different camera angles. How is this done? Do I render different angles and edit them together in iMove or with in AM? Thanks Andy

i would import an action to my newest model in choreography mode and a window pops up and says, "Exception #033. Realtime render. If you repeat this exception please send data and steps to http://www.hash.com/reports Thanks." I'm not exactly sure what it means and I do'n know how to send data that it might not list, and every time my mouse enters the screen with the camera, modle, exe... it pops up again! and that's hard to get away from, can anyone help? thx

Well I am still very new to A:M but I have finished the workbook and practiced a little bit on my own but am still very new. Anyways...I am running the newest version which is version 13 point something, Well what my question is, Is how would I go about making a mirro or reflective surfae? Like say a typical mirror in a room or a mirrored reflection off of a car or sunglasses? Do I have to manually "Paste the mirrored image" over the surface? Oris there a way to get the computer to "know" that it is a mirrored surface that reflects? That way it will be better and more accurate with movements than if I did it manually. Because I really waana use this effect and make a char…

Hello. I am very new to Animation Master and have just installed version 12.0n on my Windows 2000 PC. I have a P4 2.4GHz PC with an ATI 9000 Pro Video Card, 512 MByte RAM, several large hard drives (as I do some video work on the side). When I try to load some of the models, I get a "Parameter Is Incorrect" message. The same thing happens when I right click on the short cuts in the Libraries window. I can load SCHLITZY, but when I try to load Sir Nigel or any of the other Realistic Actors models, I get the error. I have tried downloading the latest version of A:M 12 from the Hash FTP site, but when that was installed, I ended up with duplicate entrie…

I had originally built a Star Wars AT-AT in Anim8or and would like to bring it into Animation Master. I have tried exporting it to a .3ds model and them importing it, but it did not translate very well. The other option I have is to re-create it in A:M. Since the majority of the AT-AT is made up of straight lines, is it possible to have A:M default to Peak instead of Smooth when drawing the splines? Here are some pictures of the model created in Anim8or. [attachmentid=20224] [attachmentid=20223] Thanks in advance... Al

I just completed the "Giraffe" chapter of the book, accidentally got rid of the project (Model) window -- and now I can't find it! Yes, this project was saved -- I've restarted -- I even went back to 'reset controls', but to no luck. I can open up any other project and I get its corresponding window (in this case, the "Model" window), but just not the one I spend the last five hours working on. Another interesting thing...when I choose to open another project A:M asks if I want to save my job, "Giraffe" -- so I know it's there, just no window. So what stupid, silly thing am I not doing? I swear I've pushed every button more than once now trying to get …

My computer is a P4 2.6 GHz with 512 MByte RAM, ATI 9000 Pro video card with 128 MByte RAM, Windows 2000 Pro with all the latest service packs and patches. All drivers are up to date. I am working on a WIP project using Schlitzy. What I am finding is that A:M seems to be getting slower and slower as more objects are added to the project. I am now at the point where I would like to start animating Schlitzy in a chor. The response time between mouse click and something happening on the screen is better than a second. I have tried creating a new project with only Schlitzy and the main objects of the scene, but response time is still pretty slow. Does anyone ha…

Hello, I have a character face that should be flat, but the surface is actually has "ripples" and little intentations. I'd like to align the control vertices to one plane, to help flatten this out. In Maya, I can simply select the points, turn on the grid and then move the points, which aligns them on my chosen axis. Is there a way to do similar in A:M? Thanks, Tim

Here's an animation I created to try to help out Technodandy in going from path animation to breaking from the path and continuing with a choreography action. Here's the finished product. I didn't make it perfect. Also, after seeing how cool it looked I wondered if I could modify the Hash Rabbit and give him a superman (or bunny in this case) costume. It was relatively easy to make the costume so here it is. It's not great but still pretty cool. Here are the steps I did for the animation. I'm sure there are a few things I could have done differently (like use blend to match up the path actions) but I at least accomplished my goal. I took the walk cycl…

two questions: one, how do you make something look magnified by looking through a model, like a magnifying glass? two, what are the hash contests for and how do you enter them? thanks
Last reply by Bruce Del Porte, -
well, i did the advice on the magnifying class one, and it looks all blury( i use it for a sniper rifle scope). does anyone know how to make something appear at least 3x larger by looking at it through a model (or patch) without looking blury like under a magnifying glass? (hope i'm not being complicated) NEVER MIND FIXED one more thing, how do you make something completely transparent and have a reflection, like a glass window? thanks again.

Is there a place I can go to learn more about how to model and set up things like tubes sliding around circular rods, making cymbals flop around on a stand when struck by a drum stick without the stick passing through the cymbal, making machine type assemblies rotate on an axle without sliding through the axle. The learning experience has been hard for me, but I am determined to learn no matter how long it takes. Thanks in advance! Tony

Hi all, I've had AM since v8.5 and have always marvelled at how easy it is to assign cps to bones, add fan bones, smartskin, etc... My question is why can't you do it the same way in a poly program (C4D, LW, etc...)? I am just curious here, trying to understand. It seems that it would be so much easier to lasso select a bunch of points in a poly program and assign it to a bone. The problem would of course be subdivisions (right?). But wouldn't it be feasible to say use the model in "isoparm" mode (less subdivision). assign the points to the bones and then subdivide after. The software would then extrapolate the extra points from subdividing with reasonable results. Jus…

Hi there, I am rendering a scene for an animation, and am having a rectangular artifact appear in the final image. The animation is being rendered out at a multipass of 16 (4 x 4). The artifact does not appear until the 12th pass of the image. I am using A:M 13.0n on Windows XP Pro SP2. I have an ATI Radeon 9000 Pro video card and have all the latest drivers for the card and Windows. Out of 150 images rendered, 14 of them have the artifact in the same location and same height, but vary in width. Sometimes the frames affected are sequential, other times they are not. For instance, the frames affected are 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22 then skips to 27, 28 then skip…

Hi everyone, I'm just starting to do my own modeling in A:M, and I'm trying to close up the "hole" in this shape. How should I go about doing it? I was wondering if I could just extent the splines from the bottom up to the horizontal spline at the top of the hole and attach them as hooks, but it doesn't seem to work. On the other hand, I'm not sure if I'm successfully creating hooks. When I see pics of people's hooks, it's just a spline leading into another at a 90 degree angle, but with no control point joining the two. When I do it, I get a control point... what am I doing wrong? Or if hooks is not a good solution here, what would you suggest? Thanks for any…

When animating an object, how do you keep it completely still in one segment between keyframes and then move it again? An example is a character that stops everything it's doing briefly, frozen in time, then looks around. It seems like any animation program won't let you do that because it only allows constant movement while you're animating. Can anyone help?

Hi Splinesmen! I think this must be a rather simple question. Im using AM 13r on Windows XP. I just want an object to follow a path#1 (I know of Ease and Enforcement) - so this works great. At the end of path #1 my object has to do some "strange" movement, where a path is not apropiate. So I append a normal choreo action. Now my object "lands" somewere - and now following a different, second path (lets say path#2) would be the easiest for me. But I've no success in doing the last step. A added the second path. I set a path constraint on object with path#2 as target. But now matter how I edit Ease & Enforcement: MY object does NOT move along…

I took time out from the exercises to read the help files start to finish, and now that I'm marginally less confused than before I restarted the exercises. What, I wonder, is this huge circular geometric thing that overlays the Choreography window called a Rim? I moved it here, then there, then did some fairly dramatic moves with it and it seems not to affect a thing. I suspect it's a lighting thing but just how and where the two are connected escapes me. Could some kind soul spend a few words and enlighten me?
