  1. Very interesting experiments. Perhaps on the bump problem... you could do one regular pass with SSS but no bump maps and a white pass that only has bump maps turned on and then multiply them together in compositing to get the shading of bump maps without SSS distorting it.
  2. Load it like any other PRJ. I'm not sure how it handles things like models that are not embedded in the PRJ. I suppose it loads whatever filename the model had when the PRJ was saved.
  3. You'll probably spend more than 15 hours just on the titles. At my HS we just had to show up. that looks real good, your knowledge of lighting really helps. when that fast DOF works, it works well, that's more blur than I've ever gotten it to do. Hint, you can suggest edge thickness to that by making the edge splines "render as lines" and and choose some appropriate color for that tiny imaginary surface. Photoman
  4. Serg2... that's who I was thinking of!
  5. I think "Malo" posted a sample topology. Try looking for things he's posted.
  6. I finally got a chance to finally sit down and read "Greyhawk and the Starbucklers of the Caribbean" that i bought when i saw Mark at the Dallas Web Comic Con several months ago. I really enjoyed it! I liked the story, i liked the banter, I liked the characters and the artwork looked great too. I've never actually read a whole graphic novel before so some of the devices that translate cinematic conventions (like a "Voice over") into print baffled me at first but after re-reading a few pages i think I caught on to their cleverness. I can see it being a successful movie. It oughta be! I recommend it and I think there's some way to purchase it in some form or other at the WannaBe Pirates store
  7. I believe this is the page in question. Why, it's as simple s the New York City Subway System... I have just tried the Flag tut in V13 and the elements it refers to are all there, however, i find that the actual "Attach Group" feature which makes the flag stick to the pole does not work in v13. My flag falls to the ground. Since you have a disc that will also run v14 I recommend you install that to try. You can have both v13 and v14 on your computer at once. Of course you will follow the installer to make sure it is installing to some place that is not your v13 folder. Or, for the moment, you can make the flag tut work by going back to the model window and excluding the first column of CPs of the flag from the Cloth group. Then you can skip the instructions on pg 193 except for the last part where you start the sim going. btw, Attach Groups work in v16
  8. I just tried it for the first time after watching Jason's tut. I'm on Windows 7. It is saving files but not to where I thought i specified. It's saving them to a similarly named location elsewhere on my drive. Try doing a search on your drive for the first part of your file name and see what it finds. I'm not sure if that is working right or not. Windows 7 is a bit confusing on where some standard folders actually reside. On the Mac i have no idea. I would at least report the fact that you are getting two listings for Autosave in a new PRJ and submit a new PRJ that has that in it. For now, delete one of the dual autosave blocks in the Text editor, resave under a new name and load that and see what shows up, and search to see if it is really saving something somewhere.
  9. Just to see... open up your PRJ in a text editor and see if this block, near the top, occurs once or twice... AutoSaveUse=TRUE AutoSaveSaveTime=5 AutoSaveDir=../../Documents/
  10. I just see one in mine. Does a new blank PRJ have two?
  11. Matt Campbell, screenname: "John Bigboote", has a detailed post around here somewhere on hair and collision detection.
  12. Does it not work? Show a case where the result is undesired and then a solution could be seen. But I don't see much reflection in that clip.
  13. Autosave plugin seems to be included in v16. Try looking here for the instructions, maybe: http://www.sgross.com/plugins/index.html
  14. SVN is a means of updating the work of everyone working from a central repository on a server. it's not auto-save. I think one of the sgross.com plugins does auto save? Anyone? I just trained myself to save frequently because I like to give descriptive names to my versions in addition to a number.
  15. Is it true SSS and RealAO don't work together?
  16. I had a case today where FakeAO was making that incorrect result. I deleted it from the camera and the post effects, saved, reloaded, then made it over again and it worked right. You do have Depth Buffer on in the render settings
  17. This is basically what they teach at AnimationMentor so Holmes just saved you a couple thousand . In real life mouth movement is pretty subtle. In animation, things like B K or a hard M at the beginning of works may benefit from punching them a bit harder. To speed up roughing in the keys you can make drag and drop poses for the various mouth shapes. See tut on drag and drop poses in my tuts link. the real hard part of lip synch isn't the lips, it's the body language. i f you get the body language going you can get by with surprising little polish on the mouth. If you really want to read a lot about lip synch, the Jason Osipa book "Stop Staring" covers his approach to animating facial features. The first edition even mentions A:M although he was stuck on v8 at the time.
  18. Make sure the first prong of the FakeAO under the camera is set to "Depth" not "color"
  19. thanks for popping back in to point that out!
  20. I'm trying to come up with a way to reduce the random testing and get more of a standard process to it. If i made a tut that would have to be part of it.
  21. I just tried it in V13t, this works... in the PWS, in the Chor -set the time to the beginning of the part you want to copy -draw a selection box around the keys you want to copy >Copy set the time to where you want to copy to >Paste
