I'm working on a personal project I hope to animate sometime soon. When I finish this model, it will be my first real completed 3d model. The entire thing is being modeled in Animation Master 9.5 (atleast until I upgrade to 10). As I get further along, I'll be posting finished models, textures and storyboards. Any tips, crits, or input are greatly appreciated. I'm teaching myself as I go.

Yet Another Star Wars Indie, I know. But I found this piece instructive and inspirational. What's impressive is not the animated portions (not done in A:M) so much as the integration of animation with live action -- in particular, the editing and the shot blocking. The strategy and tools (DV cameras, etc.) portion is good reading, too. Hi all, Inspired by Steve's excellent video tutes, and being extremely lazy myself, I am trying to produce a series of video tutes about texturing a head model. Creating an html tute was driving me nuts and was too much work. I have a first round test up on my .mac site, which I will keep there only for a short time. I'm posting this now to find out if both Mac and PC users can view the video. It is a Quicktime movie, compressed with the Apple animation codec, and the sound is compressed as an MPeg-4 sound. You will need Quicktime 6.x to view it, I believe. If a few of you (both Mac and PC folks) could download it and let me know if you can see and hear it okay, I woul…

Greetings, good community. What's up? Mine is a story you've all heard before -- making a model, looking for advice, secretly fishing for charitable encouragement. :P hehe These are bodyparts of a merman/creature from a dark fantasy story. Any critique would be good, but if someone could give me some pointers about modeling for animation, I would greatly appreciate it. I've finally completed this model. I've been working on it for a long time. I originally made the head months (a LONG time) ago, and have been slowly working on the body. Well, I've finally finished the main body work. It is not officially complete yet, as I'm sure I'll be changing things and making it look different, but, at least it's a complete body. It still needs tweaking (like the hands, which look a bit bad) and texturing. But anyway, if anyone has any comments or suggestions, please feel free to post! Cheers!

Hi, Here's the latest on the Flyer. Trying to get the thing finished by the 17th which is the 100th year of flight anniversary. Engine, wings, and frame are essentially finished. Got to add generator, chain drive, propellers, controls, wires, launch rail, sky and, oh, yeah, a pilot (Orville). Would be cool to have Wilber running along side, but that may be to much to cram in during the next week. Comments welcome. John

Hi all, Yes, I'm still alive! I've just been working on other things, is all... Anyhoo, I finally got round to sticking the last leg on my model. The only problem is, her pelvis looks like a triangle, and the legs seem blocky... I've tried smoothing it out, but I need to step back and invite some critique, so: 3PL Far Shot 1 (gaah! help me out on her pelvis, please!!!) This is something I've been putting off doing because I knew just bump maps weren't going to cut it for such exposed and prominent tread lugs. But the worst part was joining all the loose splines for each rotated segment copy. Although I simplified the tread pattern on the real tire, it's still not absolutely crease free and at 3156 it's a bit patch heavy but it should hold up to an arm's length inspection. Still working on materials. truck wheel WIP

Clicky Yes, I was so happy when this popped out. I'm working on a Riven-style-interface game that takes place in a moon colony in 2319. This is Version 4.0 of that same room. Maybe I'll be satisfied. The whole reson I'm redoing it a fourth time is because I made the choreography in AM 8.0j, then upgraded to 10.0 (now I'm running 10.5i). When I try to open the choreographies in 10.5i, all the models go to 0,0,0 and scale 100,100,100. Is there a way to get around this, or is it another Animation:Master Oddity? Thanks.

Here's an WIP snapshot of the mascot that I am working on for my own website. I sitll nee to put bones in him, so I could animate him. But I don't have good enough understanding of constrains and cloth dynamic, so I have a work cut out for me still. I am sure it will be a great learning experience. If you have any tip, I greatly appreciate it. Here's the original 2D designs

I've had A:M for over a year now, but have only had the time to use it a handful of times and haven't done any animation with it at all and I think it's about time I do. So, here's a little peak at something I'm just getting started on. C0mments and critiques are very appreciated. I'll be learning as I go.

Hi Evre1 I've finally got some images to show. Here are some frames of the music video I'm currently working on. Please note that the steppy kind of effect is due to interlacing/deinterlacing. I don't know how to paste more than one image in a message, so I will post the next 3 images in consequtive replies. Please let me know what you think. Oh by the way the video will be wide screen and that's why the images are so disperportionate. (16x9) Hope you like... Francois

Here's the first result that I'm willing to share as a WIP. Eventually she'll be Saturn Girl from DC Comics Legion (of Super-Heroes). The face still needs some smoothing. The eyes are from the Animation:Master 2000 handbook by Jeff Paries. I only tweaked the Iris area by moving it inward. In some lighting situations, it'll look cool, as it'll have a hilight in the shadowed area. That's the theory, anyway. Still getting the hang of renders and lighting in A:M, being used to Carrara for lo these long months. Plan on checking out the Forest or ARM for some tutes on them. Any suggestions? I used the SAY boneHed as reference, as a number of other resources. The …

Needed a break today from what I was working on so I tried to model the standard Dragon. Since I usually don't model anything that complex I thought I would ask for some help. I did what I posted using what I remember from the "devil dog" modeling on the Hash tapes. meaning I started with an extrusion then cut it in half and added the legs, arms wings to the half and copy flipped and attached. There are no claws , feet or real head but I posted a wireframe and a little qt any comments suggestions welcome. http://johnl.inform.net/pages/dragon0.htm thanks

Hi Folks! When I first looked at KeeKat i thought the character had oblong eyes and the pupils were constrained to the surface, upon closer inspection I see that the eyeballs are round and the pupils are constrained to a given space. I have a character that has oblong shaped eyes and i either need to constrain the pupil to the surface or create a textures of pupils that I can aim with nulls. I have included a diagram of the current problem I have with the surface constraints. Although the pupil rotates around the eyeball, the surface of the pupil (image1) never seem attached (image 2,3) my only solution was to add depth to the pupil to create a illusion of unifo…

I thought that it was time I posted something more substantial so here's a still from my new short "12". I can't say enough about Skycast and how much it has helped me so far with this project - the ambient light effect here is created entirely with that rig and it not only looks sweet, rendering it doesn't take an age either. Thanks to those who've helped out on the screw heads - I ended up using what I'd already built as skycast is very forgiving when it comes to minor flaws in patches. Did I say that it was rather good? There is still a bit of texturing work to do, but I've made good ground with the animation. I'm working to release the first epis…

Hello, List. Here's a brief animation test, featuring Gaty, my alligator boy. It's very short (30 frames, 226 KB). It just shows Gaty jumping back in surprise. My reference was a page out of a Preston Blair animation book. I think I have the same book that Smudge has. Right now I'm copying animators I admire, 'cuz I want to animate like them. Thanks for taking a look! Sincerely, Carl Raillard jump_back_in_surprise.mov

Hello, I recently finished a live action short titled "Time Serpent" my two sons ages 9 and 11 (this is how old they are now not at the time I filmed/video'd them) came up with the basic idea. My boys love to do this stuff and have me add things with animation master. The Short is about 13 MB in mov format (codec is Sorenson? I think) it's not professional but then neither am I. It's in my sbcglobal yahoo briefcase and its set to "everyone" so I'm hoping all that wish to view it can. I'm not sure if they have a limit on downloads so if they do please forgive me beforehand. Also..the model I used as the Serpent was a free model I got off the web somewhere, if you…

Howdy, all. Got a man made out of the moon here. Blue moon, even. His textures aren't final (he's just mirrored around the X-axis at the moment) but you get the general idea. I need to get rid of the creases at the side, obviously. I'm also wondering if he's a little spline-heavy. His mouth will need to be very expressive. This is probably the best face I've done yet, which gives you an idea of my lack of facial prowess. But it's all a learning process, so don't hold back your critiques and suggestions! Thanks, Zach
