This is the oddest beginning-of-the-film studio logo I've seen today... It's at the very beginning of this movie... A440DsuM8iQ

Disclaimer: I haven't tried this out yet but spotted it and wanted to see if anyone had given it a shot. Anyone? http://www.greentoken.de/onlineconv/ Obviously when you upload a model you have shared it with the server. If the model you want to convert is precious to you and you don't want it out there then don't use these types of converters. Here's the basic info (from the website): If enough people upload .MDL files (which will fail to convert) maybe they'll write a converter for A:M model files. One can dream. The author is a/the developer behind the Open Asset Import Library (Assimp) and associated viewer (C++ etc.)…

Here's something cool and useful. This guy has drawn skeletons into cartoon characters. Interesting to see where he has placed the joints and something that could be handy when you are thinking about rigging your character.

Free until July. I don't know much about it but if you think you might want to get into gaming you should download. The Pro version is free through some time in July ($75 subscription otherwise). Personal version likely free thereafter. I was able to import Rabbit with textures... otherwise I didn't get through much of the workflow. Couldn't see a direct means to render. Features: http://xenko.com/features/ Of interest: PBR materials Compositor Cocumentation: http://doc.xenko.com/2.0/ Download: http://xenko.com/

Rendering to file that is... Increasingly real time rendering is going mainstream and in consumer markets long render times won't be acceptable. Just in time for SIGGRAPH 2014, Physical Based Rendering is being demo'd without plugins via HTML5. https://labs.sketchfab.com/siggraph2014/viewer.html?model=devastator It's a far cry from fully rendered real time animation but it's getting there.

This looks to be a positive development: jR8XBZRkkao The video doesn't go into detail but the general idea is to allow viewers to assist and support directly (translation, captioning and funding).

Past forum-member Zachary Brewster-Geist is carving out a growing career as an actor out in the DC area. Here is a trailer he created for for a rare "original pronunciation" (think "pirate" but with less "arrgh") production of "Merchant of Venice" in which he plays "Antonio" https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=868150176557725&fref=nf There's a close-up of him at 1:24

Saw this and thought it might be of interest to game creators. If nothing else you might be able to port/update an older game over to win some prizes etc. Other than that I don't know much about it: https://www.scirra.com/ You can play a very basic HTML5 shoot-em-up game here: https://www.scirra.com/demos/ghosttutorial/ The tutorials walk you through making this and other games.

I saw Zootopia on Thursday night. I went in with mixed feelings, but really enjoyed the movie. I was amazed at the number of characters and what it would take to rig them. From a technical aspect I think Disney did a great job. Steve By the way I go to all the 3d animated films, well I did not go see Norm of the North
