GENERAL FORUM GUIDELINES
The A:M Forum is for technical support and the sharing of tips and ideas between users/prospective users of Hash software. It is moderated constantly by technical support representatives.
DO'S!

-Share resources; tutorials, models, textures, tips and techniques (link to useful websites).

User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.

I built my first character and gave her bones and made her run. I selected the skirt and made it cloth, and it flaps around in a really cool way, but her legs pass through the skirt. This happened before I made it into cloth, too, but now it's just more of a glaringly obvious problem. Basically, I'm looking for guidance to the right place to look. Am I supposed to fix this with constraints, or is there another path to the solution? Is there a property I can assign to the skirt so that I don't have to reset those properties every time I load the character into a choreography or action?

I'm making a palm tree....one of the tutorials on my DVD, anyway, I got the cookie cut to work, but there is a faint outline of the square tar. file. Also, after making the tar with the alpha channel in photoshop, the color is gone. I know I must be missing something here.

ok im trying to do a wepon system with a laser blast but for some reasion when ever i place the shot at the time its ment for it gets placed at the very begining in some weird place. all i want to know is how should i put a lasser shot in with out it being placed at the very start of the movie , or does every model you are going to use have to be in at the start?

Need some help with decals. All of the decals tutorials use photoshop pro but I have paintshop pro. I would like to use the eyes from Miki model on my model. Here is a shot of my anime face model(center). The left model was a modified face from Miki model. I remade the face so it is easier to rig. But since the eyes are spherical and not cylinders and I am missing a step or two in applying the decal I have been having problem applying the decal

Here's a good one. I'm building a model of a house that has a corrugated iron roof. Part of the roof is orientated say north/south and the other east/west. I applied to the entire roof decals that mimic corrugated iron sheets and in 'shaded' mode all the stamps (approx 50 in number) are visible. I then open a choreography and import the model, set the camera, lighting, etc and do a quick render (Q + click in the window) and find the stamps on the east/west section have disappeared. The only difference between the two main sections of roof is that the east/west section being made of three adjoining surfaces angled differently, I had to hide two while applying decals so as …

I selected the hand bone and used the Ctrl Scale icon (top toolbar) to scale the hand and all its children finger bones. That worked but then all dem finger bonz disappeared from the pose window even tho they're turned on in the model view. Then I saw that there was a "Hidden" channel added to ALL those frickin' finger bonz in the relationship window. I had to delete that Hidden channel from all the finger bonz one at a time to make them reappear. So, my question is: Did I cause that to happen using the Ctrl-scale function? and is there a way to turn them all off easily?

Hi guys I'm sure this is a really easy fix, but I'm not sure what's going on. I've rendered a simple line that glows and then fades out. (I've rendered it with an alpha channel) The glow shows up in the .mov file and everything is fine, however when I put it into after effects to be composited, it loses the outside glow completely. I've attached a picture of it with the glow, and then how it looks in after effects when it's supposed to be glowing- but of course nothing is really happening. The glow doesn't show up in other editing programs either. I can always add my own glow in after effects, but I wanted to know if anybody can tell me if I'm doing something wrong. Is it…

Ok after a while i managed to convice a friend to use AM ( ya ) however this friend is more of the elf and fairy kind of designer rather than my self who is robotic and as such i have no models of bipeds that arnt robots of some type. i was wondering if any one had a easyaly changable model of a guy and a anaitomicaly correct girl ( ie has a full body not just holes where the cloths go ) that my fried can use , and ironicaly i dont have a cd any more ( cause we both used 15.0) and i cant seam to find anything in that data base thats for older versions

As you can see I am on my next project and the questions are already rolling in. When I try to add a new cp to the current mesh to extend a line, sometimes the cp is going in the wrong direction so I click on "shift" and it puts it in the right direction. This caused the side of the mesh to have obvious lines running through it as you can see from the pic below. When I detach one of the cps and try to reattach it - it is pointing in the wrong direction again, so I would have to click "shift" to make it correct - but it looks like that is causing the problem. Is there a way to switch the direction or do I have to delete the whole side and start over. I hope I am exp…

Hi - I am working on a project for a client and they need it in a high resolution and a little worried about rendering time to meet the deadline - and they have access to be able to log-in I guess to another computer for rendering. Have never heard of it, but they need to know if AM supports "grid/parallel computing" - has anyone ever heard of this or know. Thanks for the help on my other 4 posts today - you guys are great. mirror an action... Let's say keekat is dancing on stage in front of a bunch of other keekats. the keekats in the audience are following his actions... but they are wrong because they are mirrors... keekat stops shakes his head and turns around, back to audience, to show them that they are doing it wrong.... they get it and start doing it correctly. and, with the jump action in the library, i'd like to have the charachter jump forward... and then by doubling the lenght of the action... reverse his jump... is there an easy way to do these things... ? Hello - I have never played around w/ putting a character on a path - so I thought I would try it out. I have the character placed in a chor and created a circle path to have the character walk around in a circle. I constrained the character to the path and it all works fine. I also had created a walk cycle for the character as an action from 00:00:00 - 00:01:05 that I dropped on him in the chor. When I play it, it takes a long time to go around the circle - my question is how do you adjust the 'speed' of the walk on the path? Thanks - Eric

I completed the CanCan exercise and in the render to file option I changed the range to be 3 seconds (300). After the CanCan was rendered they danced only for 2 seconds with the last second they just stood -- it didn't animate the last second. Am I doing something wrong? BTW I'm using version 9.5b. Could use your help!!!

I am trying to make a pose slider - I go to "new" - "pose" - "percentage" - that works fine it pulls up the model in the main screen, but none of the control points are active on the model - to create the pose. Not sure what I am doing wrong, and suggestions? Thanks - Eric

I'm working through the TAOA:M, and I just rendered the first animation. Following is what I got... It lacks the detail shown in the manual - i.e. the pleating of the curtains and the texture of the stage. As far as I can tell, I followed the steps correctly. I chose final render quality, etc. Anyone have any idea where I went wrong? -Steve

Hello, my name is Sergio, I would like to thank Jason for helping me to install the Animation Master on my computer, since I was having problems installling it. Thank you for the support. And I also want to introduse myself as newbie since I am new at this. I've been reading on this web page and and I think I found the right product to learn to animate 3D Characters. I can see there is people with a lot of talent here and I hope to become one too, to become an expert and start my own mini movies.

Hey guys, Im back with another question thanks for the help with the las question i asked i was able to get my canyon model built. Now i am having trouble getting a model to load up into A:M that i got from another A:M user. It will load but say there are a bunch of compnents missing so i worked on it saved the project and when i loaded it back up the model i was putting bones in that i got from the other user wouldnt load up. Hi - I created a hair material and applied it to two seperate groups - one above the eye on the eyelid and one below on the lower eyelid. I created a pose slider "eyes closed" - when I moved the eyelids down in the closed motion the eyelid hair stayed where it was and kinda stretched it down - even though the group it was attached to "eyelid" moved down. Can I not do what I am trying to do, or am I doing something wrong. - Thanks E

ok i spent about a hour making a transformer ish robot change shape and did this in a 20 second frame range to make sure it looked fluid enough, then AM crashed an i lost it all ( still have model but no action ) so my question is is there a way to change the speed in which a action works or should i try and make the transformation happen in 2 seconds

I have abused this forum because I was more concerned about my own needs. There was a lyric that we could all join together as a team, but still just a lyric I have posted thinking wow this could be big and I put a lot of effort into it and here goes... This is odd, and it happened once before, but it was awhile back and I forgot the fix. I am rendering a 5 second animation and have it set at 320x240, but it rendering the animation at around 150x120 with a black background filling up the additional space. Was this something to do w/ a camera setting, that I have set wrong?

im having some trouble with my smartskin whenever i rig the bones to move with smartskin one bone rotates properly, but the otherone rotates in reverse u see i was having some trouble with the knees of my character whenever i bent the knees, they would flatten. didn't seem to matter how i rigged the legs, or how i fought with the cp weights but i recently came across something, creating another bone specifically for helping to control the form/position of the knees it seemed to work, but when i tried to use smartskin on the knee bones, the first knee smartskinned always bends properly the second knee bends backwards any ideas? maybe i c…

in part of my movie that i am making its from the vision of one of my units and i have built a HUD to use only problem is i cant get it to stay exsactly where it is in realation to the camera no matter how many frames i edit , the hud is a transparent set of surfaces that allso has some movement itself . any ideas

Hi - for some reason my rotoscope, screen lines and rulers have disappeared from every angle. Rulers are checked "on" and the rotoscope is also "on" and I have shut down the program and restarted w/ the same problem - this happens now and then - has anyone else run into this and know how to fix it? Unless I am just doing something real stupid, which I don't think is the issue this time.

When you create an "object" (character) and you create a chor and drop the character in it gives you a "shortcut to object" under the chor section. When I click on the "+" to expand the sub options of the character in the chor section all I am getting is "model bone" and "user properties". I am looking for everything else (the groups of splines that make up the character". Is there a setting that I need to set to allow me to see these - or is it just something I am not getting? im having some trouble with my model i was studying the dynamic constraints when it occured to me perhaps i can use this for a skirt when i tried using dynamic constraints with the skirt, the skirt kind of ... uh ... i thought that it might have something to do with the object collision settings but even tweeking those didnt seem to have much of an effect i could just turn off object collision, but that would kind of defeat the purpose of using dynamic constraints to get the skirt to move around the legs (i could use the cloth modifier which works fine on its own but i find that when it comes into contact with another piece of cl…
