Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted September 4, 2014 Hash Fellow Posted September 4, 2014 The first take is just cloth, the second is with a procedural noise material on top of it for additional ambient water activity. cloth16_000.mov Update: here's some extra shark action... SHARK! SHARK! cloth18W_000.mov 2 Quote
wedgeeguy Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 Very nice job Robert! ... When I watched it a second time it made me stand on my chair because it looked so realistic ... Quote
KJ'd Beast Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 Robert, That actually looked better than the VFX for Sharknado. I think you can get yourself a gig with SYFY and upgrade their CGI. Quote
agep Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 How much can you scale up the clothwater before you run into problems? I guess making an ocean is out of the question? Being able to make nice looking wakes after a boat would be fantastic Quote
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted September 4, 2014 Author Hash Fellow Posted September 4, 2014 Thanks, everyone! How much can you scale up the clothwater before you run into problems? I guess making an ocean is out of the question? Being able to make nice looking wakes after a boat would be fantastic I'm not sure what the upper limits are. It's mostly about how long you want to wait to simulate something, knowing that you'll need to revise and retry several times to get what you want but that's true of "real" water simulations also. This shark thing with 2cm patches only takes a few minutes to sim, but one of my previous ripple tests with 0.5cm patches took several hours. I'm sure there's a way to put this cloth water in the relevant part of a larger scene. I don't know what that is yet but it's probably out there. I'll note that Charles Babbage (?) has a tut out there for creating nice looking boat wakes using particles to generate a displacement map. You might look at that technique also. Quote
KJ'd Beast Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 Rob, If you have time, shoot a video of yourself or someone in a bathtub and composite the "tub shark" into the scene. I'm cracking up thinking about the possibilities. Quote
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted September 4, 2014 Author Hash Fellow Posted September 4, 2014 New clip with double the shark action added to first post. Quote
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted September 5, 2014 Author Hash Fellow Posted September 5, 2014 Rob, If you have time, shoot a video of yourself or someone in a bathtub and composite the "tub shark" into the scene. I'm cracking up thinking about the possibilities. It would have to be the "or someone" Tricky to do in a bathtub situation, in any event. Quote
Admin Rodney Posted September 5, 2014 Admin Posted September 5, 2014 I'm late to the party... That's really nice!. Quote
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted September 5, 2014 Author Hash Fellow Posted September 5, 2014 I wondered if re-orienting the mesh by 45° might reduce the parallel artifacts. NOPE! Back to the drawing board. cloth19W_000.mov Quote
