JTalbotski
Ah. A clean, simple and elegant mesh is a beautiful thing to behold! Nice job, Mike. Jim
Iham Wrong
What Jim said. When the spline zen thing kicks in... magic happens.

Zaryin
Beautiful economy of splines. I still can't seem to get a face looking that good with so little splinage.
xor
Gotta add my kudos. That is awesome. I'll have to keep this one in mind next time I want to model a head. Smooth.

macb
Thanks guys for the compliments ! Here is an animated gif of some screen grabs i took over the course of the modelling...
natess44
Thats a kinda neat way to model, it would make figuring out the splines much easier. Great model by the way.
zandoriastudios
Very nice technique! And great modeling too!!

Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted January 14, 2004 Hash Fellow Share Posted January 14, 2004 Looks impressive! Maybe someday the image contest topic should be something like "low spline density". The object would be to make the best model with the fewest splines.
macb
Thats a Brilliant Islandia Robert ! hehe sorry, just had to do that.

Mega
Very impressive splining! I admire true economy of splines. Have you tried to animate the joints? Tony
macb
Just some feet for today. Once i get his hands done and a few accessories i'm going to rig him... i'm going to see how things will bend if need be probably add a few more splines.. the belly area might need it. Zaryin
He's really coming along.
zacktaich
Near his toe there is a basic rule of splines being broken, and that is: 2 splines per CP. You could have some really ugly creases later.
macb
Hi Zachary, Your right about having more then 2 splines per cp. posted an image comparing what i modelled before using 3 splines and after.. the top was what i originally modelled.. but then i was thinking theres got to be a way to use less patches.. and since i'm using porcelain it seems to work.. without porcelain it does show a crease though. it seems fine when i bend the toes as well. thanks for bringing it up, i didn't even think about it or notice anything cause i have been using porcelain all along. Iham Wrong
Wow, your modeling is awesom; simple and effective. The feet, though I think the big toenail is a bit long at this point, are near perfect. Are you using a custom rig or a pre-fashioned one like TSM? macb
Hi Frank, thanks for the comments and Crit I'm rigging him with the Eggington rig for now...

PixelDust
Great modeling, Mike! I like the expressiveness of the child's eyes. And good job on the mother model, too.
sonofpat
Great work as usual. Can you please tell me how to get eyes that look so great. All I can make is "dead-eyes". If you take a look at my Naomi Campbell WIP http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?act=S...t=15#entry15571 If it's not too much problems, I'd like to see the African Child expression on a different background the next time you post. I don't know if my monitor is not configured correctly but it's not easy for me to dissern the model from the background. Luv Pat
macb
Playing around with some textures for Child's Mother... Some photoshop blurring added.

Mike Hart
Please tell me you already had that ear made, before today. It would probably take me a whole day to do just that. Very nice. Me tooly, Mike Hart

Admin Rodney Posted February 21, 2004 Admin Share Posted February 21, 2004 Simply fantastic work! Really like the detail in the Mom. You make all this look (relatively) easy. There is a reason I stick to cartoony work... realism is hard to achieve. (at least for me) Looking forward to more... Rodney
JTalbotski
Mike, The mom looks wonderful. I love the lighting you gave her. It kind of tells a story already. Jim
macb
Thanks for the Compliments guys! She was reworked from an exhisting model I had. Here's a wireframe of her sofar.
Mega
I really like your spline placement. Very simple yet powerful and very effective. There is a nice flow to the cp's and the overall face. Very nice job. Tony

Hutch
Very nice models. I notice you have five pointers on the mother's upper lip. Does this not cause any problems for animating? I had come to the conclusion that this was the best spline lay out on a previous model of mine but abandoned it because it seemed like such a big no no. DarkLimit
WOW!! her skin tones looks awsome..... very realistic.... keep up the awsome work.
macb
Thanks everyone Thanks for pointing the 5point patch out Hutch, it's a good point, i can see that being a cause for weird creasing later when she smiles or talks.
