macb Posted January 13, 2004 Posted January 13, 2004 Hi Everyone, I' am working on an animation and just started modelling today... Here is a progress of the head after about 6 hrs. Mike Quote
zacktaich Posted January 13, 2004 Posted January 13, 2004 Awesome model, it manages to be low density and high in detail, awesome awesom awesome Quote
JTalbotski Posted January 13, 2004 Posted January 13, 2004 Ah. A clean, simple and elegant mesh is a beautiful thing to behold! Nice job, Mike. Jim Quote
Iham Wrong Posted January 13, 2004 Posted January 13, 2004 What Jim said. When the spline zen thing kicks in... magic happens. Quote
jfirestine Posted January 13, 2004 Posted January 13, 2004 Nice! Show us more when you get a chance. Very good start! Quote
Zaryin Posted January 13, 2004 Posted January 13, 2004 Beautiful economy of splines. I still can't seem to get a face looking that good with so little splinage. Quote
xor Posted January 13, 2004 Posted January 13, 2004 Gotta add my kudos. That is awesome. I'll have to keep this one in mind next time I want to model a head. Smooth. Quote
DarkLimit Posted January 13, 2004 Posted January 13, 2004 This is awsome macb nice clean mesh. his / her personlity jumps at you.... keep up the good work... Quote
ypoissant Posted January 13, 2004 Posted January 13, 2004 I feel odd to add another me too post but I have to do it. Splendid low splines mesh. I got to learn to do that. Quote
macb Posted January 13, 2004 Author Posted January 13, 2004 Thanks guys for the compliments ! Here is an animated gif of some screen grabs i took over the course of the modelling... Quote
natess44 Posted January 13, 2004 Posted January 13, 2004 Thats a kinda neat way to model, it would make figuring out the splines much easier. Great model by the way. Quote
zandoriastudios Posted January 14, 2004 Posted January 14, 2004 Very nice technique! And great modeling too!! Quote
macb Posted January 14, 2004 Author Posted January 14, 2004 Here is some more progress for the day... thanks for the comments all you A:M Masters Mike Quote
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted January 14, 2004 Hash Fellow Posted January 14, 2004 Looks impressive! Maybe someday the image contest topic should be something like "low spline density". The object would be to make the best model with the fewest splines. Quote
macb Posted January 14, 2004 Author Posted January 14, 2004 Thats a Brilliant Islandia Robert ! hehe sorry, just had to do that. Quote
DMerchen Posted January 14, 2004 Posted January 14, 2004 Thanks for sharing the screen grab shots. I like the progress you are making this one. Very impressive. Quote
macb Posted January 15, 2004 Author Posted January 15, 2004 Here is todays progress... It is a He, but I left out the privates. Quote
zacktaich Posted January 15, 2004 Posted January 15, 2004 Looks good, I can't wait to see him textured. Quote
Mega Posted January 15, 2004 Posted January 15, 2004 Very impressive splining! I admire true economy of splines. Have you tried to animate the joints? Tony Quote
macb Posted January 16, 2004 Author Posted January 16, 2004 Just some feet for today. Once i get his hands done and a few accessories i'm going to rig him... i'm going to see how things will bend if need be probably add a few more splines.. the belly area might need it. Quote
zacktaich Posted January 16, 2004 Posted January 16, 2004 Near his toe there is a basic rule of splines being broken, and that is: 2 splines per CP. You could have some really ugly creases later. Quote
macb Posted January 16, 2004 Author Posted January 16, 2004 Hi Zachary, Your right about having more then 2 splines per cp. posted an image comparing what i modelled before using 3 splines and after.. the top was what i originally modelled.. but then i was thinking theres got to be a way to use less patches.. and since i'm using porcelain it seems to work.. without porcelain it does show a crease though. it seems fine when i bend the toes as well. thanks for bringing it up, i didn't even think about it or notice anything cause i have been using porcelain all along. Mike Quote
macb Posted January 19, 2004 Author Posted January 19, 2004 Here is a Render using Yves Poissant's skylight rig. thanks Yves. Mike Quote
Iham Wrong Posted January 19, 2004 Posted January 19, 2004 Wow, your modeling is awesom; simple and effective. The feet, though I think the big toenail is a bit long at this point, are near perfect. Are you using a custom rig or a pre-fashioned one like TSM? Quote
macb Posted January 19, 2004 Author Posted January 19, 2004 Hi Frank, thanks for the comments and Crit I'm rigging him with the Eggington rig for now... Quote
sonofpat Posted January 20, 2004 Posted January 20, 2004 Hi Mike, I cannot restrain myself from saying this "" Your wire frames are WONDERFULL"" Keep up the good work, Luv Pat Quote
zacktaich Posted February 5, 2004 Posted February 5, 2004 Hi Zachary, Your right about having more then 2 splines per cp. posted an image comparing what i modelled before using 3 splines and after.. the top was what i originally modelled.. but then i was thinking theres got to be a way to use less patches.. and since i'm using porcelain it seems to work.. without porcelain it does show a crease though. it seems fine when i bend the toes as well. thanks for bringing it up, i didn't even think about it or notice anything cause i have been using porcelain all along. Mike Well prove me wrong! Got any updates? Quote
Mike Lium Posted February 6, 2004 Posted February 6, 2004 just incredible work Mikey really great to see your work with AM again . Quote
PixelDust Posted February 13, 2004 Posted February 13, 2004 Great modeling, Mike! I like the expressiveness of the child's eyes. And good job on the mother model, too. Quote
sonofpat Posted February 13, 2004 Posted February 13, 2004 Great work as usual. Can you please tell me how to get eyes that look so great. All I can make is "dead-eyes". If you take a look at my Naomi Campbell WIP http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?act=S...t=15#entry15571 If it's not too much problems, I'd like to see the African Child expression on a different background the next time you post. I don't know if my monitor is not configured correctly but it's not easy for me to dissern the model from the background. Luv Pat Quote
macb Posted February 20, 2004 Author Posted February 20, 2004 Playing around with some textures for Child's Mother... Some photoshop blurring added. Quote
nixie Posted February 20, 2004 Posted February 20, 2004 That is an awesome image! no other comments needed, you got the bump down to a tee Quote
Mike Hart Posted February 21, 2004 Posted February 21, 2004 Please tell me you already had that ear made, before today. It would probably take me a whole day to do just that. Very nice. Me tooly, Mike Hart Quote
Zaryin Posted February 21, 2004 Posted February 21, 2004 She is beautiful. Your work is exceptional. Quote
Admin Rodney Posted February 21, 2004 Admin Posted February 21, 2004 Simply fantastic work! Really like the detail in the Mom. You make all this look (relatively) easy. There is a reason I stick to cartoony work... realism is hard to achieve. (at least for me) Looking forward to more... Rodney Quote
JTalbotski Posted February 21, 2004 Posted February 21, 2004 Mike, The mom looks wonderful. I love the lighting you gave her. It kind of tells a story already. Jim Quote
macb Posted February 21, 2004 Author Posted February 21, 2004 Thanks for the Compliments guys! She was reworked from an exhisting model I had. Here's a wireframe of her sofar. Quote
Mega Posted February 21, 2004 Posted February 21, 2004 I really like your spline placement. Very simple yet powerful and very effective. There is a nice flow to the cp's and the overall face. Very nice job. Tony Quote
Mike Lium Posted February 21, 2004 Posted February 21, 2004 As usual Crap just like all of your work Quote
macb Posted February 21, 2004 Author Posted February 21, 2004 Combined some textures to get more definition in the maps. hehe... thanks Mike Quote
Hutch Posted February 23, 2004 Posted February 23, 2004 Very nice models. I notice you have five pointers on the mother's upper lip. Does this not cause any problems for animating? I had come to the conclusion that this was the best spline lay out on a previous model of mine but abandoned it because it seemed like such a big no no. Quote
DarkLimit Posted February 23, 2004 Posted February 23, 2004 WOW!! her skin tones looks awsome..... very realistic.... keep up the awsome work. Quote
macb Posted February 23, 2004 Author Posted February 23, 2004 Thanks everyone Thanks for pointing the 5point patch out Hutch, it's a good point, i can see that being a cause for weird creasing later when she smiles or talks. Quote
