KenH Posted August 27, 2006 Author Posted August 27, 2006 I had his head modelled wrong....it's kind of pointy and so that shaved some off the head making the ears look bigger. From those pictures I can see his head may be too high. Thanks for the pics! I'd like to keep him real low spline so I'll try displacements. If it doesn't work, all I'll have to do is re flatten and try again. Quote
KenH Posted August 27, 2006 Author Posted August 27, 2006 You're a hard slave driver! I made those alterations and some around the upper lids. Still ears to tweak, but this might make it clearer to see what's going on..... Quote
Duke Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 "MMMM The force is strong with this one" nice work Ken, Quote
MattWBradbury Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 Great work so far! Looks just like Gary Coleman! Quote
KenH Posted August 28, 2006 Author Posted August 28, 2006 Geez, I can't help if Lucas ripped off the look of a popular comic actor at that time.....also they're both small! Hmmm. Quote
KenH Posted August 28, 2006 Author Posted August 28, 2006 Haha. Shouldn't it be "Brother talking bout whatchoo you is?" Quote
KenH Posted August 29, 2006 Author Posted August 29, 2006 I intended for the next update to be textured, but I can't get over the difference eye color/size/position makes. (I think his eyes are actually brown now) So here's another one. Quote
Dark_Jedi Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 ok so its looking good but i think his skin is sagging too much at the bottom. Quote
KenH Posted August 29, 2006 Author Posted August 29, 2006 How's this DJ? Also, can you let me know how one ear is different.....I assume his right ear is the different one. Thanks. Quote
Dark_Jedi Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 holly cow ken im loving this heres a front view pic.. his left ear seems to go straight.. then up and curl.. while the right ear seems to saty in a smooth straight way Quote
MattWBradbury Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 are you just going to add a normal map for the forehead folds? Quote
KenH Posted August 30, 2006 Author Posted August 30, 2006 Ah I see his ear difference now....I'll probably leave it modelled last as I may need to cfa again. For the forehead folds, I'm going to try displacement maps. Quote
KenH Posted August 30, 2006 Author Posted August 30, 2006 I guess I'm modeling him all now. I'm trying to get his body proportion right. I intend to cover this with a cloth cloak with a hood. This won't be cloth and I'm going to add creases using displacement maps. On to his hands and feet..... Quote
Dark_Jedi Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 lol his head looks pretty big. i really cant wait to see this done Quote
KenH Posted August 30, 2006 Author Posted August 30, 2006 Now you say it, I agree. It's so hard to judge under all that cloth. Also, the cloak will bulk him up abit. Quote
Dark_Jedi Posted August 31, 2006 Posted August 31, 2006 yea thats true.. the only time u see yoda withought his cloak is when it falls off in the battle with sidious... ill try and get a pic for u Quote
lazz Posted August 31, 2006 Posted August 31, 2006 Ken, each version just keeps gettin better and better! Its really coming along well and I'm really lookin forward to seeing it completed! Goin great Ken! -lazz Quote
KenH Posted August 31, 2006 Author Posted August 31, 2006 Thanks fellows. I beefed up his body abit and I think it looks better. What do you say? Quote
KenH Posted September 1, 2006 Author Posted September 1, 2006 Whoohoo...he has feet and hands now. Just the cape left and then on to texture. Quote
Admin Rodney Posted September 1, 2006 Admin Posted September 1, 2006 Nice! I guess its safe to say we've passed the point of no return and Yoda won't be just a bust? Woo hoo is right! Great fun seeing a Star Wars character (Yoda even!) come to life in this manner. Really looking forward to the texturing process. Quote
dude Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 Lookin Good! Just somthing i noticed, yoda dose not have finger nails he has claws/tallons. But other that he looks great! Quote
Dhar Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 Nice work Ken. Hey! Are these two right feet? Quote
KenH Posted September 1, 2006 Author Posted September 1, 2006 I should probably increase the size of his nails to make them more clawlike. He has five toes on his feet....you just can't see the other two. Cheers! Quote
Eric2575 Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 Looking really good Ken. Can't wait for the cape and textures. Will keep an eye on this thread. Quote
Dark_Jedi Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 looking sweet ken.. but his toes look way to round.. there more pointy Quote
KenH Posted September 1, 2006 Author Posted September 1, 2006 Pointy toes it is.... I'm experimenting with simcloth but when it falls, it "irons out" the creases I've modelled (see image). Is there any way to preserve those creases while still having simcloth effect them? Also, I'd like to give the cloak some thickness but I'm keeping it simple for now. PS I discovered that hooks don't work well with cloth. Quote
Admin Rodney Posted September 1, 2006 Admin Posted September 1, 2006 Ken, I've only done rudimentary tests with SimCloth but I don't really see the need for 'dropping' the cloth. You might try to just model and place it pretty close to where you want it and simulate from there. A Japanese schoolgirl skirt I created (with pleats) worked really well that way. If I can recreate it I'd like to make the experiment a mini-tutorial for the Extra DVD. Quote
KenH Posted September 1, 2006 Author Posted September 1, 2006 I guess "settles" would be a more accurate word. It's modeled about a centimeter off his body. I'd like to see that tutorial/project. Edit: Here's how he's modeled.... Quote
KenH Posted September 3, 2006 Author Posted September 3, 2006 Been experimenting with cloth and texture with Bitmap Plus (cool plugin!). I don't think I'm there yet (it's hard to make it look good) and I'm worried cloth will be prohibitive for animation. But I don't know any other way to go. Anyway, I'll leave that for now and move on to texturing. Got to buy 3DPainter now! Quote
cosmonaut Posted September 3, 2006 Posted September 3, 2006 Looking very nice Ken, can't wait to see him textured... Kevin Quote
the_black_mage Posted September 3, 2006 Posted September 3, 2006 Much improvment he has shown... Quote
dude Posted September 4, 2006 Posted September 4, 2006 Looks awsome! I cant wait to see him moving. I made Yoda's light saber a while back. You can use it if you want. Just Pm me your e-mail address and ill send it to you. His body looks really good! I cant wait to see him when hes done! -dude Quote
MattWBradbury Posted September 4, 2006 Posted September 4, 2006 That saber looks a tad bit different than the one in this shot. Maybe it's the reflectivity values. Quote
KenH Posted September 4, 2006 Author Posted September 4, 2006 Cheers guy. Dude: That's a nice saber! Alas, someone else said they were working on it before now, so I'm sorted on that. But thanks for the offer. About his body....my model seems to have a longer body than the one in the last image. Or maybe it's the angle..... Quote
Eric2575 Posted September 4, 2006 Posted September 4, 2006 Have you got painter yet? When will we see him bumped on the head? Quote
KenH Posted September 4, 2006 Author Posted September 4, 2006 Yes. But first I have the fun task of flattening his face. Quote
Dark_Jedi Posted September 4, 2006 Posted September 4, 2006 its the angle ken you got the body pretty much down Quote
MattWBradbury Posted September 4, 2006 Posted September 4, 2006 So your not going to use the light saber? They are fairly easi to make; might as well get Dude's saber and tweak it a bit. Quote
KenH Posted September 4, 2006 Author Posted September 4, 2006 Well, Dark Jedi has been PMing with me saying he's making one. Since I said I'd use his several weeks ago, I'm going to use his. Quote
MattWBradbury Posted September 5, 2006 Posted September 5, 2006 Couldnt you use both of them? i think it would be awesome to see yoda weilding two light sabers not sure exactly what that last render is... but yoda is missing a leg Quote
dre4mer Posted September 5, 2006 Posted September 5, 2006 I smell UV texturing Nice work Ken can't wait to see him textured. Quote
DanCBradbury Posted September 5, 2006 Posted September 5, 2006 That's a cool yoda model! How come his ears are identicle? Anyways awesome work, ken! Quote
Zaryin Posted September 5, 2006 Posted September 5, 2006 I figure Ken will change the symmetry after texturing is done. Nice work, Ken. Quote
KenH Posted September 5, 2006 Author Posted September 5, 2006 Correct. I think I might even get away with straightening the ear using the rig....it might need some cp tweaks too. Here's the test map on his face to check for any stretching. In the previous render, you could see the deviding groups for flattening. The face will be on a 2048x2048px decal while the foot and hand will be on another 2048x2048px decal. Then I'll CFA the foot and hand. Oh and btw, I tried putting hair on his cloth cloak and it worked. I thought we couldn't do that.....so anyone needing fur coats, fire away! Now for 3DPainter! Quote
KenH Posted September 7, 2006 Author Posted September 7, 2006 Texturing is on-going. In the mean time, you can rotate around yoda with thanks to HAMR. yoda.html Quote
