  5. I look at their new-features video and think, "what? they couldn't handle alpha channels before this?" I'm glad they are on board with that, none-the-less.
  6. As far as optimizing render time... I would be VERY surprised if A:M is not already optimized to spend no unnecessary time on things that will not show in the rendered frame.

  8. The DVD contains extras like models and tutorial files. This would be for people without broadband where downloading gigabytes would not be practical. The DVD is not a key like the old CD was, however.

  13. I recall a previous case that had to do with some light parameters. Can you post a sample case that does it?
  14. No, I only want to render this one frame as a test and I can't get it done. If I were in a quite curious and problem solving frame of mind I'd delete a bunch of stuff and see if it renders. If it did, I'd reload it and delete not so much and try again... until i find what element is the problem.
  15. If you have some other web space available you could put it there and give a link to it. When you say "choke on a single frame render", do you mean other frames work fine, just one is a problem?

  17. Some polygon creation tools like MakeHuman have options for exporting different densties. My first gambit would be to choose the lowest setting, it probably has all the important contours in it.

  21. I think the eyes are too small. The eye direction is a huge part of expression and you don't want to make the audience have to search for it.
  22. On the other hand there may have been some people who said "There's no way this will ever get funded. I can pledge a chunk of money and appear to be generous and helpful without ever actually spending any money!" Not that I know of anyone who imagined such a scheme would work.

A big problem i had with our most recent forum project is that we spent a lot of time creating special new assets for it and making them look good and testing them and created very clear directions on how to be part of this forum project and what to do for it... ...and then one person took the assets and ignored the directions and made something for himself that will never fit into the real project and it's obvious he never intended it to fit anyway and he put it out on the web before the real one could be done and now the newness and specialness of the assets that were made for our project is ruined. It's gotta be the most thoughtless and selfish thing I've seen on this forum in a long time and it completely deflated my interest in collaborative projects. It's a lot of work to go through just to have someone take it all for their own show.
