A:M Forum Rules
GENERAL FORUM GUIDELINES

-Organize and inform others about user groups, IRC chats, image and animation contests, job opportunities, etc.
-Discuss what you are working on and let everyone know about magazine reviews and articles that relate to your projects.
DON'TS!
-Do Not be rude or disrespectful or mean to other forum members in any way. Personal attacks will be removed.
-Do Not post bug/crash reports to the list (send bug/crash reports to http://www.hash.com/reports.
-Do Not complain about forum content. Complaints or suggestions can be sent directly to hash@hash.com
-Do Not reprimand other forum members for violating forum rules, that's the moderators job, which (unless you are a moderator) you are not.
-No complaining or whining on the forum or distribution of misinformation.
-No flames of any kind.
-No Off Topic posts. (Posts in the Off Topics section should be related to A:M in some form or fashion or benefit the A:M community as a whole).
-No soliciting of any kind without prior approval.

-No "me too!" posts
-No discussion of Hash Internal Affairs (finances, advertising, PR.)
-No posting of private email to the forum unless permission of the author is granted. (Private correspondence should remain private)
-No very general questions like: "how do I make a good 3D model" make your questions as complete and concise as possible.
If you have questions as to whether it's appropriate, send it to: support@hash.com, We'll be happy to let you know whether it is, or is not appropriate.
User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.
Thanks for making the A:M Forum a great community.

I am a newbie but I have been doing pretty good with the tutorials. I have been trying them first out of the book and then watching them online to pick up some extra tips, etc. However I can't seem to find an online version of Exercise 11, Giraffe. Does anyone know where I can find one? I am having some trouble following the book and could really use a visual tutorial. Thanks, Robbin

I purchased Animation Master a long time ago but I'm trying to get back into it. I purchased David Roger's Animation Master 2002 Handbook to learn the features of Animation Master but I noticed he is publishing a new edition in May. I was wondering if anyone knows how this edition will be different than the previous edition. I was very impressed with the previous edition and wish to add this book to my collection. Thank you.

Well this is my version of "can you say that", I think the first part, the eyes moving from side to side, is a bit to fast, but I don't know if there is any way of adding frames to the begining of the animation so that I can move the key frames to slow it down a little. a_secret_2.zip

Hello again, I have extracted some models and textures out of one of my favorite video games. They were in .tri format. I converted them to .3ds, .lwa or .obj. The textures to them when theyre converted dont stick as they are supposed to (my fault on programming). So they end up as .dds (direct draw image) All the UV map coordinates are in that dds file and should just lay right on but some how they dont in 3ds max. Now for .obj When i attach textures to the model then convert it to .obj, it leaves a .mtl file with it. It contains all the texture information and material stuff and jazz like that. Now for my question, is .dds or .obj supported in A:M. If …

While working through this exercise I have found that when the animation is played the door starts slowly opening from frame one until the end of the sequence even though I have not animated it until the middle of the sequence. How would I make it so that the door does not move until the middle of the sequence? Thank you for your help.

I want a clutch of these motorcycles to run through a scene with their headlights [and red tail lights] on. So far, as I look through manuals, A:M can make a halo-type glow around the object, but I see nothing on how to simulate an object that is emitting light. I did a fair approximation by creating a cube, coloring it yellow-orange, installing a light inside it and setting the cube's Translucency to 50%. Is there a better way? [attachmentid=16039]

Ive put a walk cycle onto a path, but I wanted to adjust the speed. I tried increasing the 'chor length' and 'cycle length'. I think thats what they are called. Anyway, that was great for slowing it down, but when I tried to speed it up again, this time by reducing those parameters I lost part of the cycle. ie, part was truncated.. then my character slides the remainder of the path, where once, he walked.. Do I really have to be so linear in my work-flow? Im sure theres a way to change the speed without this problem.

John Bailey Exercise 1 4/10/06 Here's my first submission. Hope everything works. I wasn't quite sure what the assignment was exactly, so the I just formed the pose by using only the Pose sliders. I did cheat a little to get both of Keekat's feet aligned on the ground (the rig slider leaves his right foot slanted and that bothered me). I didn't animate him. http://media.putfile.com/Exercise-1-44

So I'm working on the lesson when I come to p.178. Pick the "smoke" emitter in the Project Workspace. Click on the Opacity Over Life property and set it to 0%. Well, I looked and looked and I can't find it to click it. I don't see it in the Workspace, or the properties window, and I have all of the trees opened. All I see is the properties (Bone position, transform, etc) Can someone help me? What am I doing wrong? Oops, I forgot to say which 'it' it was I can't find. I found the emitter no problem, it's the Opacity I can't find.

I've looked all over the forum and can't find anything that addresses this problem - Rabbit's legs wont Paste Mirrored. After frame 15, his ears, arms, feet and toes all swing along nicely (the feet sort of look like they're flailing about) but the legs stay in the same position they were in at frame 15. Jason told me that I have to move the leg bone to set a key frame for it. I went through all of my key frames moving the feet up and down and rotating them. Then I rotated the pelvis which moved the legs around a bit. I even rotated the knees with the arrow keys. I rebuilt the exercise from frame 1 along with the video tutorial, step by step. The instructor's Ra…

Ok, I just got A:M Monday, I installed and got ready to use it to start praticing and learning the ropes. The things I have noticed, KeeKat , in Choreography mode in the Choreography window looks like his right ankle is broken and bent to the side. But when I select model or skeletal mode in the Choreography window, KeeKat is fine. I have found a way to fix it with the IK, but is this a temporary or permanent fix? Also the same goes for Knight when using his premade actions. I used the normal walk cycle action for Knight in Choreography, and his legs walk with the knees going the other way. Is there someway I can get around this, or do I need to find a fix for t…

Hi to all from Italy. I hope someone can help me. I often model half a face and then I Copy/Flip/Attach. If the point of the central spline are not exactly in 0 (in X axis when I am in the front view) Copy/flip/attach sometimes doesn't work. So my question is: how can I have all the points of a selected splines at exactly 0 in x axis? I discovered that if all the points are in, for istance, 1cm and I select the spline and write 0 all the points move to 0. But if the points are not all in the same position in x axis (1 point at 1,01cm, 1 point at 1,04 etc...) it doesnt work. Another question: I need to export my models in polygons to work in other softwares. I…

I have a model that's getting too complex, so I'm hiding huge chunks of it while I work. this means that sometimes there are CPs visible but the spline running through them is not. When drawing a new spline, is there any way I can force a new CP to attach to one of these CPs? As an example of the problem: lathe a four-point circle and extrude it twice to make a cylinder. Select the middle spline circle and hide the rest. Break the spline twice and delete the two remaining splines. Try to attach a CP from a new spline.

I just spent alot for upgraded hardware and the rendering time is mush slower. My old system of a 1.7g CPU and 1gbite of ram will render a section of my model in 2 sec. The new computer which supports a 2.9 ghz CPU and 2 Gbite of ram takes 2 minutes for the same selection. The old computer is using a GForce 5500 AGP board and the new computer has a ATI 600 board. WHAT did I do wrong?
