  1. Tom, see if you're doing anything differently than I am doing... NewtonSimmed.mov
  2. That's good to hear! Is it just the plugin or the program too?
  3. If that's wrong, I don't want to be right! Your plan will work.
  4. No. I'll just re-note that 3DCoat seems to be able to more accurately represent your bump and displacement painting. Photoshop and AMPaint will show grayscale imagery. If you are comfortable with mentally interpreting grayscale, should not be a problem.
  5. I'm not sure how he hold onto that giant ball on his back
  6. yes. An advantage of finishing in a 2D program is that you can get to crevices that are obscured in a 3D paint situation.
  7. "spline direction" in modeling is usually a question of how 2 splines intersect or how the ends of splines are attached. If you consider what appears to be an X it could be either two straight splines crossing each other or two L-shaped splines that meet, then turn in opposite directions. > Two straight splines crossing is the right way. Two Ls sharing a corner is wrong. The video in this post will introduce you to some related problems of connecting splines... http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?s=&am...st&p=365435
  8. Yes, AMPaint doesn't show you the shading of a bump map you may be painting, it shows you the grayscale. You'd need to take the model back to A:M to see the bump effect. On the plus side, AMPaint doesn't require a tiled map. I like to pre-wrap my model with a blank decal and paint on that in AMPaint and the result is something you can take to a regular paint program for touchup or filters or whatever. A tiled map won't work for that. example here: http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?s=&am...st&p=318153
  9. What part of do you not believe? It's all been discussed before. That $79 license price isn't a "full price" that is cheating you out of transportability. It's the price of a one-computer A:M license. It is far less than the old CD price. Yes, Maya allows you to install on a second computer but Maya charges you $3500 for the first one. That second install isn't "free". Worried that Hash may "shut down"? If Autodesk shuts down your Autodesk software will be also stuck on the computer it is on. Their License Transfer Utility will not work without an Autodesk server to contact on the internet. Of course, I'm not saying they're going to shut down... That's never happened to a tech company... has it? You want to encourage A:M? Use it and tell people you use it and stop fretting about the CD. Post some work on the forum. We always like to see fine work done with A:M. And If you need it on another computer, buy the license for it instead of wishing to not buy a license for it. Or... you could visit your parent's home and actually visit with your parents. Put the computer down and interact with them as if they were not a tedious family obligation. I'm sure your parents would love to see your face in an upright position.
  10. That's a neat "reveal". With a little freaky music I can see that being used in movie.
  11. Happy Birthday, Entity, wherever you are!
  12. I liked his idea of scoring your shots for difficulty, then doing the medium ones first, then the hard ones, and then the easy ones last.
  13. Looks like that works! (the sun is in front of the cacti, however. There's probably an alpha channel solution for that too.)
  14. There isn't a permanent transportable version available right now. Hash has been through just about every pricing and distribution model there is over the years, so i don't think it's a lack of sight or lack of knowledge of the options. What they are doing now is what works... for now. I'm sure they've considered that some sale may be lost somewhere because a certain option isn't offered but have concluded that the present plan has a practical cost/benefit mix. The good news... the $79 annual subscription is less than buying the old full versions every year, even at the old $99 upgrade price. It has its downsides but the old plans did too. "What if I lose my CD?" "What if i lose my dongle?" I'd also add that no one on this forum is in a position to change the pricing plan no matter what the argument for it may be. My suggestion is to send a simple note to Hash suggesting they implement the option you want. An angry, indignant email will probably be less effective.
  15. If that's a Sprite system there are two variations of the "Gravitational Affect" parameter in its properties. And yes, that ought to be "Gravitational Effect"
  16. I recall that name. Happy Birthday Shaun!
  17. Ka-Blooey! That looks good.
  18. You also need to sacrifice a goat.
  19. I'll note that the 32-bit version of A:M has Quicktime but doesn't give access to Quicktime audio compression for your audio track. A:M will leave your audio as uncompressed audio which can be huge. I presume the Mac version of A:M is similar. That's a reason to render to some uncompressed format in A:M then take the file to some other app (I use Quicktime Pro) to compress both audio and video in one sitting.
  20. I'm sure the student deal will come around again in some form.
  21. I see $49/month for the whole cloud with a one year commitment. Do you see $39 somewhere? I don't qualify for the student/educator deal.
  22. I hope she has submitted an appearance in "Rear Window". If not she ought to! She looks like perfect thru-the-window material.
  23. hmmm... I just found i can get the "cloud" subscription of AE for $19.99 a month with no commitment. that's pretty tempting.
  24. Try this http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?showt...p;hl=light+list
  25. You don't have to do the Ambience thing. Leave that out and it WILL be affected by lights. But your background, whether it is models or a flat image will almost certainly need to be lit with different lights than your room interior. You can use light lists to keep the lights segregate the effects of lights.
