  1. Five weeks to get your Sci-Fi entry together! And the top ten entries will win something... you could be one of them!
  2. Perhaps a spreadsheet could do the conversion?
  3. I'll try again... I too found a regular Wacom tablet awkward to use. i was doing and re-doing strokes until I got it in the right place. Generally not usable for me. Drawing on the screen is way better. I'll note that I got my 18" Cintiq used, for about $600 on ebay several years ago and the same model goes for much much less now. The stand is handy in that it tilts down to a regular drawing angle but I also need my adjustable chair that boosts me up to a high enough level to feel right with the drawing surface.
  4. Weird... I posted a reply here and what appeared was a copy of Roger's last post.
  5. This is from a production design commentary on one the the Mad Men DVDs, a series I'm only now getting around to watching. Their premise is that the series is set in the early 60's so they want period furniture on their sets. They found these secretarial desks and ordered them in beige because they wanted them to appear not too extravagant. To make the beige panels photograph more interestingly, however, they put a larger than normal desktop on them so it would extend over the sides and cast a shadow (two really ifyou look close), breaking up the color without explicitly adding another color to the object. I also think the overhanging shadow gives a depth cue that is interesting to the eye and adds a 3D-ness to the object that might not be there other wise.
  6. Written and directed by Frank Tashlin, former Disney and WB animator and director!
  7. If someone wants to contribute an example PRJ of something they tried and couldn't get to work, that might be useful for this series to give me something practical to talk about and show. It could be sent to me privately so you don't have to make your PRJ file public.
  8. The actual request would go to the page that Jason linked to but you can ask about it here on the forum. Maybe it's already there. Or maybe someone knows how to do what you are trying to do. As far as coding, Steffen Gross does that.
  9. My next "It Can't Be Done" series will be on Simcloth in A:M. (I'm going to award myself a book by Martin Hash for suggesting that topic. ) Cloth seems to be one of those things that people find very enticing when they see it but very frustrating when they try it themselves. I think a series that builds up the knowledge base from the basics to the useful tricks would be a good thing. Here is your chance to suggest particular cloth things that you would like to see solutions for. i probably won't get to this until July, after the Image contest so you have time to think about what you want to see. tJRN4-A5I5E And if you didn't catch my previous "It Can't Be Done"... check it out!
  10. I like that too! That is definitely a red devil.
  11. Sorry to hear that venue won't work anymore But you gave it a fair shot and you can be proud of that. Most people never even get to the trying stage.
  12. Welcome to A:M! I was an Infini-D user, a long, long time ago! The new user tutorials pointed to at the top of the New User forum are good starting points. When you're stuck, ask on the forum here. In the tutorials link in my signature are many tutorials on specific topics but some are aimed at new users.
  13. I guess it was the "wink-wink, nudge-nudge" era.
  14. This is the oddest beginning-of-the-film studio logo I've seen today... It's at the very beginning of this movie... A440DsuM8iQ
  15. I don't think you can make much with the free reader but i notice my reader has "CreatePDF Online" under File. You might investigate that.
  16. Here's a variation on the theme. The vases have specular color set to green. In combination with the red light they show a yellow-gold highlight instead of a pink one.
  17. Still with the lagging cursor! You'd think that with stuff as fast as it is today the cursor should never be more than one video frame behind the position of the pen tip but it's still a lot more than that. That's a problem with every such device i've tried.
  18. here's a quick idea for a lighting-only solution... A green light with a short reach and a red light with a longer reach are placed in the same spot. up close, red + green makes yellow but faraway, red only makes ...red! The vases are all white. It's not the same as the ad but it's an effect with a bit more spectrum variety to it than just red. Here's the same test with the vases color set to a slightly reddish grey. Makes a big diference.
  19. Is this the one? MB4yqvTiHLM Yeah, I think that's mostly a case of choosing to make the models red. Carefully design around a reddish pallet. I recall a production designer for "Saving Private Ryan" said they were often asked how they got certain shots to look so green. Basically they designed the sets to have lots of green on them. A quick an dirty experiment with A:M might be to edit all the surface colors so everything is shades of grey and then light the scene with reddish lights. In the commercial they have a spectrum of yellows for lights to reds for darks, that would be a bit beyond a lighting color choice. Most of the elements in that commercial are hand drawn and painted so it's not a big deal to make them any color they want.
  20. Surface says they have that problem solved and the reviews seem to agree. I've done that!
  21. I've sent you an example solution.
  22. That four point spline rule has been around for as long Martin has has been making splines. Welcome back to A:M!
  23. I can imagine many different variations on "rectangular depression" Like this? RectangularDepression.mdl Edit:I see your example... If the four points are all on the same spline, they will not fill in.
  24. Get her some sci-fi- gear and be sure to enter the sci-fi image contest!
  25. I don't know much about 3D pdf. I couldn't find anything real clear on the web. If you just need to show someone a model in 3d there is the p3d.in site you could upload an OBJ to. The A:M OBJ exporter seems to include textures now. my Trex on p3D If you do find a convenient path to 3D pdf, let us know more.
