  1. Not sure this is what was asked but I like the effect. Uses a grid with a animated displacement material applied with a little refraction. The hair is not on because it seems to be acting strangely in this version v12k and it sped up the render [attachmentid=10166] oh an here's the project but the decals for schlitzy are not included but on the cd [attachmentid=10167] actually the screen is begin to look the same must be getting late was going to mention the actiing is a bit too fast but that can be tweaked aniother thing the displacement/refraction could be on a slider and then if need the distortion could decrease and focus would return schlitzview.mov schlitzyview.zip

  3. I threw this together is a hour and it might show especially the trailer part which is controled by a pose slider [attachmentid=10097] [attachmentid=10098] this was done with the v12 cd so you might not find all the decals on the truck if you are using v11.1 trialexp.zip trialexp.mov

  9. Did not see your reply but tried an idea with the sweeper plugin. I had no idea what a real dna strand just saw a picture and did this simple attempt. In case anyone has sweeper or the demo I'm including the project file. I think mine is Thom's dna dna.mov dna.zip
  10. I used here is another tga resulting from the idea and going a little crazy with PS the project file includes tga and uses the new bitmap material vern2.zip
  11. After reading Vern's ps rock wall method I fooled around in PS a little and then did this the project file have the decal the background is on the cd verncage.zip

  16. project file most stuff standard or on cd except for darksim materials but the distortion poses are there works in 11.1 also dist1a.prj

  18. trying to play with distortion in 12h but poses not working correctly so did a very quick test in 11.1 again this was very quick test with two animated distortions one on ship and one on alien but the animation was hurried dist.mov
  19. Now under short cut to material have the material translate in the z direction and you get something like this..sorry for compression jinglies zebratube.mov

Rodney as a second part using the same material as in the tut apply it to another 0bject like a tube and under the shortcut to material where is says displacement give it a value like 300. this was an extruded tube with the material applied with the displacement setting and then rendered. Notice no color but displacement based on color changes
