Before people make decisions to halt production on a fan film (or any project) due to perceived "copyright" issues, please consult with me first. Dr. Martin D. Hash, Esq. Patent Bar #59431 We can get most "fan" films through - even ones that have commercial aspirations.

That looks good like it's going to be good. Get the animation done then render them all with Hair.

Read the "Lens Flares" section of the On-Line Help. (Or if you've purchased the 2007 Upgrade, it's in the Technical Reference manual that comes with it). Lens Flares aren't lights, and you don't have to worry about them casting shadows. They are perfect for the edge of a knife.

I could be talked into something like that. What rights to the model, if any, would I retain? Would I be given any credit for creating it or would it be anonymous? Your name is embedded in that model forever. (Someone can change it with a text editor but I haven't seen anybody do that yet - and they'd be pretty easy to catch.) You can put whatever copyrights you want into the "Notes" field of the "File Info" on the Property dialog of the model. Most models are freely distributable but some have "limited to non-commercial use" copyright notices. I've seen alot of people include model author's names in the credits of their personal animations. I can't guarantee that but it seems to be the norm.

Time to stretch your skillset... This car needs Image Based Lighting (IBL) - not Photon Mapping (radiosity). Marcos (Xtaz) Rezende refined the look quite well for his car renders. p.s. This is a good model. I'm sure the A:M community would appreciate it if you donated the model to the "Extras" DVD, (but it's okay if you don't want to).

That's an interesting "up" shot - and unique. Give us a traditional "down" shot, with a reflection in the floor so we can all "ooh" and "aah." (Nice model.)

Feb 07 contest entry in Stereo Vision

Oh, oh, oh... That's nice. -
Go to the Hash store and buy a t-shirt or something, and say "hey, could you throw a TaoA:M in the box for $25 more?"
-
My goodness, man; the "Extras" DVD has 1000s of models on it! What are you going on about?
-
I know this is an innocent question, and I know it seems reasonable enough to ask, but believe me, the old Mac/PC wars are just under the surface, even here at non-sectarian A:M central. The diplomatic answer is: They are both just as good. Now, I'm going to lock this thread.

I showed this to some more people. I think it is going to be very successful for you.

Very unique.

Well, Heath, James, Ken & Steve are all at shows this week, so I'll speak for them by saying that is an excellent piece, Angelo.

That's quite stunning. You've looked at before and after: how do you think HDRI adds to the realism?

Robots Robots Robots: progress report #9
martin replied to prometheus999's topic in Work In Progress / Sweatbox
Progress report good. "Dead Smiling Pirates" good. All systems go. -
I didn't even know there was such a thing as a "steam hammer," and now I want one. Hey, wait, I do have one! This steam hammer is in Ku-Klip's Workshop. That Ku-Klip certainly is well equiped, (in a steam hammer kind of way). It looks great, Rodger.

New Short Film Theodore N' Fink (15 minutes)
martin replied to dre4mer's topic in Work In Progress / Sweatbox
For shorts, no. Shorts make you famous though, and maybe create a market for your talents, (and your viewers feel good). I'm not sure there's a market for movies either (you said it, the competition is "insanely good") but we're going to give it a try with "Tin Woodman of Oz" (TWO). I was actually involved in making and selling a movie before (which included 20 minutes of 3D), so I speak from experience. There is a tiny, independent, non-theatrical world market if you sell cheap enough. Getting to it is difficult, and you don't get your time and effort back in money BUT it does get distributed. How many people can say that? I'd have to say that 3D is a labor of love - but there IS a slight chance of success for those who continue to push onward - like the people in this community. You're welcome to do a shot or two for TWO if you want, just to see what it's like working on a "real" production. -
New Short Film Theodore N' Fink (15 minutes)

Here's some more "first impression" stuff. Lot's of good animation. Way, way a lot of good animation. Great eyes... But the models were weak. They needed to be more visually appealing if they're going to be on screen that long. But it's your first bit! I'm not criticizing anything - it's a GREAT first piece. Put up a 2 second test shot first next time, to get some audience feedback on the models and set. -

I thought it was funny and cute. The voices are good, as is the whole soundtrack. The eyes are especially effective at bringing the characters to life. They follow the action quite well. Get started on your second short right away. -
In A:M V13 has Biased normals replaced porcelain?
martin replied to Glen Crowell's topic in New Users
What you're looking for is back in V13. -
You guys make me feel so warm and fuzzy... I eagerly await seeing the work you've done, John!
-
Hey! I thought that was pretty cool. (I watched it more than once... Just to replay the sense of wonder I felt.)
-
Very cute.

You got some great poses on the robot. It's very good. The modeling on the boy is decent, and I can find nothing to comment on... It depends on what you're going to use it for... Ancillary character?

That's clever and good enough that it might find some legs on A:M Films. If you can get it to HA:MR, I bet it would be a favorite as that product grows in popularity.
