dborruso Posted June 15, 2006 Posted June 15, 2006 Hi I am working on something for fathers Day. I want to make an animation of my dad playing conga drums and singing babaloo if I can finish it in time. My friend jin kazama is making the conga drums. I started the head today. I was just gonna make a simple round head and put glasses and hair on it but my friend jin kazama encouraged me to push it more and I'm glad he did, I am happy with how it's coming. I should be busy learning a software package right now but I wanted to do this. Attached is the head. I will update later. Quote
dborruso Posted June 17, 2006 Author Posted June 17, 2006 Ugh, I was kinda sick yesterday and slept most of the day so i wont have the animation done by fathers day. I'll work on the model and make him a card with it though. I'll still make the animation but not for fathers day i guess. So there are no comments? Does it look bad? It's ok to be honest. Let me know. Quote
KenH Posted June 17, 2006 Posted June 17, 2006 There's a few rough areas round the ears and neck. But you don't have time to fix them! I assume he needs arms to play conga drums! Quote
dborruso Posted June 17, 2006 Author Posted June 17, 2006 Got a real slow start today, but added some hair. Quote
dborruso Posted June 18, 2006 Author Posted June 18, 2006 I finished the fathers day card. I had this on the front on nice photo glossy surface and a fathers day message inside. My dad really loved it. Thanks for the comments guys. I wasn't sure if the model stunk or not. Quote
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted June 18, 2006 Hash Fellow Posted June 18, 2006 Hey, that turned out well! So you're dad plays the congas? That is cool! Quote
steve392 Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 That worked out well ,would take me weeks to model something as good ,and then it wouldn't be recognisable Quote
dborruso Posted June 19, 2006 Author Posted June 19, 2006 Thanks! My dad doesn't play congas in real life but he will in my animation. It is just a joke because he calls my mom babaloo. Thanks steve, If you are having trouble making things be sure to use tutorials that fit what you're doing when you make something from the A:M Resource Matrix. I used the cooper tutorial technique for this head. If you follow a good technique it will go quick and come out better. Quote
Viper GTX2.0 Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 Very nice maybe put some texture on to make it look more real. Quote
the_black_mage Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 dude is that your dad!!!! nice you did do that..right? Quote
dborruso Posted June 19, 2006 Author Posted June 19, 2006 That's my dad. You mean my image or viper's? I don't think its too hard to believe I made the model of my dad. It's not amazing or anything I think. Yep, I made it. Quote
Zaryin Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 Hey Dennis, that turned out great. Especially in the time you had. I would keep going and do the entire body along with textures . Quote
GAngus Posted June 20, 2006 Posted June 20, 2006 Dennis, that is really quite good. I hope He will be around for the NYNJA meeting this sunday, so I can see how close you got him. jerry a. I finished the fathers day card. I had this on the front on nice photo glossy surface and a fathers day message inside. My dad really loved it. Thanks for the comments guys. I wasn't sure if the model stunk or not. Quote
trajcedrv Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 Looks great, especially having in mind that the model is not textured yet! Let's see the rest of it! Keep us posted! Drvarceto Quote
dborruso Posted June 22, 2006 Author Posted June 22, 2006 Thanks folks I wasn't going to do a texture map. I was gonna leave him kind of like a cartoon. But now I am inspired to texture him from the comments. I will make a texture map today. I'll post soon. Quote
KenH Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 Nice work. It'd be nice to see a pic of your dad to compare it with! Quote
dborruso Posted August 7, 2006 Author Posted August 7, 2006 I tried out texture mapping my dad today. Here he is with and without glasses. I think he looks better with out them. I need to make better glasses. The rims are too thick. I have a seam on the side of the neck. I'll work that out. Hows it look? Quote
dborruso Posted August 8, 2006 Author Posted August 8, 2006 fixed the seam and some bad spots. Worked on the ear. Quote
dborruso Posted August 9, 2006 Author Posted August 9, 2006 finished model with fun tv background. Quote
dborruso Posted August 10, 2006 Author Posted August 10, 2006 Just testing the rig dadwalk2.mov Quote
oakchas Posted August 10, 2006 Posted August 10, 2006 Dennis, Looks good... I too would like a comparison shot... but otherwise, his jeans look a bit like teen girls wear nowadays... too short for a guy his (my?) age between the crotch and the belt. not that he should pull it up over his belly.. just needs more length between the beltline and the crotch inseam. (I know, I said crotch..) Quote
dborruso Posted August 10, 2006 Author Posted August 10, 2006 pulled up his pants a little thanks. Quote
Gerry Posted August 10, 2006 Posted August 10, 2006 Hey Dennis- this looks good! The front edge of the ear is a little weird with that ridge all the way around. Otherwise really nice and natural looking. How'd you do the hair? Is that a decal or Hash hair? Gerry edit -- I didn't realize there was a second page in this thread, so my comment was about just the head. Quote
