A:M Forum Rules
GENERAL FORUM GUIDELINES
The A:M Forum is for technical support and the sharing of tips and ideas between users/prospective users of Hash software. It is moderated constantly by technical support representatives.
DO'S!
-Ask questions about the software.
-Assist other users... everyone was new at this once.
-Inform people of your version/platform when asking for help.
-Share resources; tutorials, models, textures, tips and techniques (link to useful websites).
-Post links to your work, or where your art is being used online (on websites, in games, toons', etc.)
-Search the A:M Forum and FAQ. The question you are about to ask may have already been answered.
-Organize and inform others about user groups, IRC chats, image and animation contests, job opportunities, etc.
-Discuss what you are working on and let everyone know about magazine reviews and articles that relate to your projects.
DON'TS!
-Do Not be rude or disrespectful or mean to other forum members in any way. Personal attacks will be removed.
-Do Not post bug/crash reports to the list (send bug/crash reports to http://www.hash.com/reports.
-Do Not complain about forum content. Complaints or suggestions can be sent directly to hash@hash.com
-Do Not reprimand other forum members for violating forum rules, that's the moderators job, which (unless you are a moderator) you are not.
-No complaining or whining on the forum or distribution of misinformation.
-No flames of any kind.
-No Off Topic posts. (Posts in the Off Topics section should be related to A:M in some form or fashion or benefit the A:M community as a whole).
-No soliciting of any kind without prior approval.
-No threads or comparisons related to other 3D Applications.
-No "Wish list" or feature requests, they should be sent to www.hash.com/reports for categorizing and prioritization (User requests define the future development of the software).
-No "me too!" posts
-No discussion of Hash Internal Affairs (finances, advertising, PR.)
-No posting of private email to the forum unless permission of the author is granted. (Private correspondence should remain private)
-No very general questions like: "how do I make a good 3D model" make your questions as complete and concise as possible.
If you have questions as to whether it's appropriate, send it to: support@hash.com, We'll be happy to let you know whether it is, or is not appropriate.
User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.
Thanks for making the A:M Forum a great community.

Need some help with decals. All of the decals tutorials use photoshop pro but I have paintshop pro. I would like to use the eyes from Miki model on my model. Here is a shot of my anime face model(center). The left model was a modified face from Miki model. I remade the face so it is easier to rig. But since the eyes are spherical and not cylinders and I am missing a step or two in applying the decal I have been having problem applying the decal

I am running a PMac G5 dual 2.5 Ghz, 3G Ram, ATI Radeon 9600 video card. A:M v15a. While working thru the EX17 tutorial, the simulation freezes at frame # 2:15. I saw on another thread from August 3 2007 ( User named "someawfulbridge", post "why can't I bowl cosmically?" ) that someone else had the exact same issue. A Hash person responded that they were able to set up/do the simualtion from the top view in the Chor window and make it work. I tried that and had no luck. They also said that the tut file may be corrupted and that they would try to fix it by next release. I just updated to v15a, but still had the problem. Has anyone had this issue and found a way to ma…

I'm looking for a page turn type of thing again... I think I asked this before a long while back. I'd like to be looking down at stack of pieces of paper, and have the top page curl from the right lower corner to the upper left, revealing the next page. Would it be better/easier to do this as a cloth, or with a series of bones from upper left to lower right? In my ideal world, the first page would flip, exposing the rear of that page as it passes the camera, then showing the next page in the stack. "I'll hang up and listen" = I'm doing a search again while waiting for a reply.

Hi all, I want to show all my controls for my character on the dopesheet (keyframe sheet) because I need to key them all for each pose. So I am using the 'tack' function but everytime I go to another control, the others disappear on the dopesheet. How can I prevent this from happening? Also, other than moving (jiggling) the other bones that are not being moved, is there a way to set them automatically when you set one of the other controllers? Thanks

Here's a good one. I'm building a model of a house that has a corrugated iron roof. Part of the roof is orientated say north/south and the other east/west. I applied to the entire roof decals that mimic corrugated iron sheets and in 'shaded' mode all the stamps (approx 50 in number) are visible. I then open a choreography and import the model, set the camera, lighting, etc and do a quick render (Q + click in the window) and find the stamps on the east/west section have disappeared. The only difference between the two main sections of roof is that the east/west section being made of three adjoining surfaces angled differently, I had to hide two while applying decals so as …

mirror an action... Let's say keekat is dancing on stage in front of a bunch of other keekats. the keekats in the audience are following his actions... but they are wrong because they are mirrors... keekat stops shakes his head and turns around, back to audience, to show them that they are doing it wrong.... they get it and start doing it correctly. and, with the jump action in the library, i'd like to have the charachter jump forward... and then by doubling the lenght of the action... reverse his jump... is there an easy way to do these things... ? I found this in the search of the archives http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?showt...l=mirror+action …

I have put together a long scene and I'm having issues rendering it. The clip is 57 seconds long. When I render 10 second clips of it, it turns out okay. But, when I render the whole thing, using final render settings, the image becomes a negative and the top and bottom are swapped (kind of like the old TVs with the "rolling" picture, only locked into a half roll). The preview screen as it renders is okay, as I check it periodically throughout the day. I am rendering uncompressed. Is there a specific setting combination known to render this kind of result?

I created a landscape using the terrain wizard and wanted to populate it with flowers. I decided to use the crowd flock and tested it with 16patch spheres 1st from the primitives library. I did a quick test render and sure enough there were the spheres floating just above my landscape. I then used the "flock to surface constraint" to constrain the spheres to the landscape surface. Sure enough, after scrolling through the frames a bit, the spheres moved onto the surface in my choreography window. When I did a test render, much to my confusion, some horrible great big black shadow things had appeared on the landscape, as though some massive thing was casting a shadow. I…

Hi, Would anyone have a cape model they would like to share? Not looking for anything fancy, I just want to integrate it with another model. I'll either do a sim-cloth on it when I get it to a chor or else I'll just add a couple of bones for simple movement maybe instead. Thanks in advance!

I've had Brian Fisher working as an intern for the summer at HDStudios, where I do graphics. Brian has been playing with Hash now for only 3 weeks and has just posted an animation on YouTube that I think is quite good for an early 'go' with any 3D software! He used the Porsche model from my V14 CD, and modeled the roads and environment himself. Hopefully this will be found inspiring to other Newbies or folks considering A:M purchase.

I found photos of the exact desert I want represented in my animation, and I feel humbled by the number of subtle shrubs, hills, bluffs, and so on that make the desert what it is. Especially since it is only going to be in the background and does not move, I don't see the sense in modeling all of this from scratch. So now I'm toying with the logistics of animating my A:M components to be most compatible with my photoshopped and then 3-D composited (probably in After Effects) sort of environment. I understand there's a way to render animations with an alpha channel, although I don't know how. I guess that's question number one. Another question is "how to …

(Should say OF Render Times - sorry) Hello all, I wanted to share the most important thing I have learned from my previous 3 Contest entries, which is: ALWAYS - budget sufficient time to render out your project the way you envision it to be. The coolest models....with the finest Decals...and over the top Materials, Particles, Etc...will look like crap if you find yourself at the deadline with only time for a quick render. Animation Master is THE 3D Package of choice for anyone who wants to control the content of their work. You can render out to *.exr format (AWESOME), use a boat-load of Post-Production-Effects(again AWESOME), Contol value (The Cat's ASS), Lig…

First off WELCOME! I came here to this program and these forums around one year ago. Biggest lesson I learned was to listen to the advice you find here. An enormous wealth of knowledge just flows here. And the ease at which these folks here give out solutions or advice is amazing as well. My point basically is........................ This forum is as valuable to you as that A:M cd. Maybe more so. Again.........WELCOME! Gene Spleengene Animations (A NONprofit Studio LOL)
