TeresaNord Posted September 22, 2006 Posted September 22, 2006 Hey guys, I stumbled across this facial animation tutorial today on Victor Navone's blog! Check it out! It's really cool! He analyzes a 10 frame clip of animation he did on Dash in The Incredibles!!! http://www.navone.org/HTML/Tutorial_DashTake.htm Quote

KenH Posted September 22, 2006 Posted September 22, 2006 Aww...the page crashes for me. Something to do with the quicktime I assume. Quote
Stuart Rogers Posted September 22, 2006 Posted September 22, 2006 Aww...the page crashes for me. Something to do with the quicktime I assume. The first page contains an H.264 QT movie, but page 2 contains the bulk of the text. The movie on page 1, the subject of the item, has this direct link. Quote
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted September 22, 2006 Hash Fellow Posted September 22, 2006 Great tut. Victor did a 2 1/2 hour lecture on this stuff for AnimationMentor. And that was just the first half. Quote
KenH Posted September 22, 2006 Posted September 22, 2006 Thanks for the links Stuart. I tried updating my quicktime and now I can see the page even in Firefox! Quote
johnl3d Posted September 23, 2006 Posted September 23, 2006 I pdf'ed the 2nd page and you can see the animation as your scroll Quote
KenH Posted September 24, 2006 Posted September 24, 2006 Well I took a stab at putting what I learned into practice with scarecrow. (It's brighter than it should be due to the H264 format). shocked.mov Quote
Admin Rodney Posted September 24, 2006 Admin Posted September 24, 2006 You know Ken... I'd say that was a very successful implemenation of Victors lesson. Great shot. Quote
Dagooos Posted September 24, 2006 Posted September 24, 2006 Well I took a stab at putting what I learned into practice with scarecrow. (It's brighter than it should be due to the H264 format). I couldnt see the victors tut but I like how extreme you went on the squash pose. You can get away with a lot for a couple of frames like that. Maybe a teeny bit better if you would have lead in with the brows more. Nice work! Quote
KenH Posted September 24, 2006 Posted September 24, 2006 I'll implement that right away. Then I'll make it a HAMR project.....rendering takes too long. Quote
ypoissant Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 Great resource Theresa. ... Hey! What's that? Real eyes cannot open from shut to wide open like that in one single frame like that! ... (Joking of course ) Quote
draagn Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 Always like Victor to help out budding animators. the guy knows his roots. Quote
Nosferatu Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 Great job, Ken. Looks very convincing. Nos Quote
Stuart Rogers Posted October 1, 2006 Posted October 1, 2006 Oh - my - god.... I'm turning into an animation geek! Channel 4 in the UK is currently showing an "animation top 100" programme, and they have just shown a clip of The Incredibles... ...and all I could think of was "I know exactly who animated that shot!" Jeetman Posted October 2, 2006 Posted October 2, 2006 Thank you Teresa! Victor's tutorial is awesome!!! I love the way he breaks it down and explains exactly how the movements are applied and the reasoning for each pose. Ken, You're application of the techniques on Scarecrow is really good too!!!!
